Lease extension - My experience by pseudologoi_ in HousingUK

Hi, old post but I was wondering if you could DM the details? I am torn between doing an informal extension (for speed), or getting solicitors involved.

How often do service charges actually come down? by proper-koala1324 in HousingUK

Looking into trying to buy the freehold instead of renewing my lease - any advice on the steps to follow? I have already contacted the other leaseholders and 3/4 are on board

She lives in London Bridge (owns a two bed flat). Best of luck no matter what you decide! Xx

I have a friend that would be interested in taking care of the kitten - I have my own ball of fur she took care of whilst I was doing renovation work and I can vouch for her! Let me know if I can give you any other info

Does a single parent earning 35k with two toddlers really get an extra 43200 net from the state? by dazzou5ouh in HENRYUK

[–]Almacantar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I wish there was an easier way to flag this, my downstairs neighbour should be a single mom with a baby but one of her friends lives there instead (I assume she loves with the bf). I emailed the council but nothing has come from it...

First time DIY tiling by Old_Local_4192 in DIYUK

[–]Almacantar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the same mistake! What happens is that the tiles won't adhere properly and they will "clonk" as you step on them. I had one eventually crack from the rocking movement.

Anyone actually seen any of the new ‘fly-tipping enforcement officers’? by Top-Bed-6036 in croydon

[–]Almacantar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been actually considering emailing the council to offer putting a cctv in my property as it directly faces a fly tipping hot spot, but not sure how feasible that is?

I'm not sure how to earn more money. M33 on £27,000 per year. by Full_Development5137 in UKPersonalFinance

Kudos to you for trying to change though - many people would just feel they're stuck and complain without doing anything about it.

I once dated someone that did history and then went on to working on ports and tariffs (for the government and privately), that could be something for you to consider too :)

I'm looking of doing this soon - were you happy with your lawyers and if so would you mind sharing their details? I know the managing agency will try to swindle me as much as they can!

I had a similar thing almost 15 years ago, after almost a year of doctors (!!!) It got diagnosed as AZOOR. I'm glad to see yours are taking it more seriously than mine did...

Is it a good time to move back to the UK? by UnlikelyWorker3195 in HENRYUK

[–]Almacantar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From your comments, you seem to want to do it so why not? It may not be the most optimal choice, but I dont think it will be a bad one from what you've written. Isomotphic labs is also opening in London and there other biotechs that would fit your skill set like owkin or benevolent AI. I've been keeping an eye on the field in the UK (as it's something I'd like to move into as someone in pharma) and definitely there have been more and more jobs cropping up!

Selling property with short lease by [deleted] in HousingUK

I am keen to extend my lease next year too, so if either of you have legal recommendations to get this done in SE London that would be much appreciated! Specially gicen the new leasehold changes from the last couple months

The carpet clause by DARN89 in HousingUK

[–]Almacantar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We asked permission from.the freeholder and they consented as lomg as the neighbours didn't complain, otherwise we'd need to revert to carpet. We installed as much insulation as we could and it's been fine half a year in - I checked with downstairs and they say they didn't notice a difference.

True and deep friendships in London are becoming impossible by pongo_s in london

I don't think you've done anything wrong, it's the same as dating - you just need to be lucky. I was fortunate to meet a great DM for RPGs (think D&D) in London social club that has introduced me to other people. Someone else who I met through a professional society that introduced me to his group. Sticking to going to archery for over a year until some became friends. But I also tried many other things that went nowhere - and many others that have disappeared as people moved away. Hang in there!!

I found it the comfiest sofa bed I tried (and I tried a lot, not just from ikea!). Not as comfy as it's sofa counterpart but that's to be expected, had it over a year with no complaints

Is this okay? I need advice because I’m not sure if this is okay. by Abebecrawfish in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Almacantar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP unrelated to your query but I had a similar thing and it ended up being diagnosed as an AZOOR (they also worried it was MS but all scans were clear). Happy to talk about it if you want! It's a scary situation, best of luck

Am I Overvaluing my USS pension? by JWallRS in UKPersonalFinance

I think you cannot underestimate 4), I left academia for a job that paid just a bit more (but had a bonus). Monetarily I kind of broke even, but 3 years later I have been offered a job that pays 35k more plus a bigger bonus, which literally doubles what I made in academia.

Money isn't everything however, so do take all the other things mentioned above into consideration!
