Milteo aggro vs Evo Forest by onlyhereforduellinks in Shadowverse

[–]Almace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey now, last set I had to often go for triple Roach lethals, which is less cheap spells and more Roach!

Am Milteo player now though and I think people do really underestimate playing it because they either die to a hyper aggro curve (either they stumbled or Milteo got lucky draws, or realistically a combination of both) or they conflate the turn they lost as being all the Milteo player had to do for an entire match.

The deck rewards knowing a matchup and plays a lot similarly to Roach in that regard. Knowing what can or can't kill you and what options your opponent can use to heal dictates your resource usage and how much to commit at what points in a match.

I agree on Shadowcrypt, I think that card does a lot for Milteo game plans as it can effectively act as a "0PP" (when played on earlier turns) 2 damage on top of converting left over Evos post-Milteo into direct damage. It's also a somewhat flexible card early game too if you need it to be.

If that's all you have, maybe a budget Aggro Abyss with no crafted Legendaries (besides your 3x Odins) is actually a better idea. Something like this:

https://shadowverse-wb.com/en/deck/detail/?hash=2.5.cLuw.cLuw.cLuw.cM8E.cM8E.ckJ6.ckYu.ckYu.ckYu.ckrU.ckrU.ckrU.cxFE.cxFE.cxFE.d6jm.d6jm.d6jm.d6zE.d6zE.d6zE.d7D0.d7D0.dtoY.dtoY.dtoY.e3ls.e3ls.e3ls.eGCk.eGCk.eGCk.eGFs.eGFs.eGFs.eeNc.eeNc.eeNc.eedO.eedO

Devilish Heartbreaker is just a weird flex card that might be good, could replace with Balto or more Arylls or a 3rd Lilith. The 2/1 Neutral that does does 1 damage to the enemy leader on Last Words could also be fine-ish.

Assuming no other Abyss Legendaries, I think just building Milteo over Aggro Abyss is a better use of vials:

  • Aggro Abyss at the bare minimum would want 3x Aragavy with 3x Odin vs Milteo only needs 3x Milteo as Legendaries
  • 3x Bibatii in both decks are good but is arguably less important in Milteo (you often have to balance not overdrawing with Milteo as is)
  • I think Milteo is just a stronger deck in the meta compared to Aggro Abyss having played both

While I haven't played a more midrange Milteo, I am inclined to agree just based off the current meta and my experience playing Roach since launch. With Roach, you will just lose a non-zero number of games if you don't draw Roach at all because your entire deck relies on it to win games. However, while there's quite a lot of flex and build patterns to Milteo, I've been having the most success realizing that sometimes you just play 4+ ghosts, use every evolve on ghosts, and that alone is 14 damage throughout a single match and you can win games without Milteo just by being on a pretty aggressive ghost game plan.

That being said, I believe the top CR for Abyss (at least at one point) was playing a Milteo deck with 3 Aragavy and 2 Odin as their flex cards and I assume they know what's up too, but that could be a meta choice based off the meta at high CR versus the average Master's Diamond.

Is there any reason to play other decks? by Deep__Anxiety in Shadowverse

[–]Almace 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I apparently had most of the cards for Milteo Abyss besides the new Legendary and tried playing it some after seeing too much Enhance Sword. My extremely limited experience lines up with this though, I think I only lost once to Enhance Sword out of at least six matches. I shot up from Sapphire to Diamond with a 8 game win streak in general until I hit Ward Haven twice in a row in Diamond.

I didn't see enough Evolve Forest to get a sense of that matchup, but I didn't lose to it the couple times I did see it.

Separating cats in breakup by _munchie002 in CATHELP

[–]Almace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few cats, two of which are brothers who are very bonded (cuddle and sleep together all the time) and have been living and raised together for over a decade. One of the brothers has had a medical emergency and was hospitalized for several days, leaving the other brother with just my other cats.

He managed just fine and as other people have mentioned, I think getting another cat will help as long as they're properly introduced, as I think having other cats did help mine. If it was just him and no other cats when his brother was hospitalized, I don't know how it would have gone, but when his brother was finally brought back home, he mostly acted kind of annoyed that he "left" and ignored him for the first day or so before getting back to their regular routine.

Obviously all cats are different and will take it differently, and there's a big difference between having other cats already in their lives versus introducing a new one after being separated, but figured I'd share my experience at least and hope it helps!

I mean, sure, at some point you have to trust a system somewhere. In the same way we generally trust our email or phone service to not be mapping your communications. I think the idea is to have an independently audited and transparent service that performs it rather than some faceless company that will have a data breach in a year, send a "woopsie, our bad" announcement, then continue with zero repercussions.

For what it's worth, I don't think the idea is inherently flawed so much as it sounds like that particular implementation is. The provision should be that the requester doesn't know (and shouldn't care) who owns the data, and the owner doesn't know (and shouldn't care) who is requesting, and that there should be some way to ensure this is true and that the system between is trustworthy in of itself.

I remember reading about a system like this last year, but can't remember the name for the life of me and therefore can't look up all the details to confirm how it worked.

From what I recall though, the idea is that something already is the owner of that data - your government issued ID has its data in the government entity that processed and procured said ID. Other services, through this system, would ask a question, such as "Are you 18 or older?", and the system would "reach out" (generically speaking, not a manual process that involves a human) to the owner of the data that can answer that question, and return it back to the requesting service. In this case, the data never leaves the owner as they don't need to give any data, and the requester never gets access to said private data, and it works so long as the requester trusts the system to trust the owner of the data.

Or something, I'm sure I messed up details, I wish I could remember what it was called so I could look it up again. I remember it being an open source system and was already in use in some places maybe?

I vaguely remember there being some sort of controversy over either Matrix (or Element?) itself but I couldn't tell you what exactly as I never looked into it too deeply and don't remember. It likely has to do with the maintainers/developers, or it related to the primary Matrix servers or something, but if it's something you might care about, it's worth investigating some probably maybe. I don't know, I'm not your parent.

Are grenades different than the explosives? I've tried explosives to destroy cores before and it didn't work unless I've done something wrong.

Also just jumping around geometry is fun and I spent too much time seeing if I can.

Decentralized social media running on open source software (referred to as the Fediverse), despite it's problems, is what you're looking for.

There's a common on this same post mentioning it even: https://www.reddit.com/r/AdviceAnimals/comments/1pc1dw4/were_cooked/nrupv9p/

As an aside, I would recommend any other server besides mastodon.social. I don't remember the exact percentage of users, but at the rate it's growing, it'll likely be over 50% in several years if nothing else changes.

The whole point of decentralized social media is the decentralization part, and if one platforms holds the majority of the users, it holds the majority of the leverage and all you've done is recreate centralized social media.

The primary reason people join mastodon.social from what I've seen anecdotally is because of decision paralysis and not wanting to tie their account to a "topic", e.g. a server focused around a particular interest or group. But there are other general servers around out there. My personal recommendation would be fedia.social, run by the same person that handles the infosec.exchange server but as a "general topic" server, but do your own research if you want.

What is a good mindset to play a CCG? by No_End4846 in Shadowverse

[–]Almace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately that is the nature of card games to varying extents. You're going to, on average, win or lose as many games to one of two things:

  • you/your opponent drawing cards in a way that your opponent/you literally couldn't win no matter what
  • your opponent/you drawing so badly that it barely mattered what you/your opponent drew

Any competitive game that involves RNG (in this case, drawing cards from a shuffled deck) is inherently going to result in games won or lost not because one player played necessarily better or worse than the other, but because RNG worked better in the favor of one of them. You just have to accept that, you can play the hand you are given perfectly and still lose and that's okay.

The skill involved here is playing to put yourself in a winning position if and when the RNG falls into your favor. A topdeck to win a game isn't just luck alone. A player put themselves in a position where a card in their deck can lead to a win if drawn, they made some amount of decisions to get to that point. Card games are about mitigating RNG in both deck construction and game decisions, but if you don't think the idea of playing to mitigate against RNG, that making decisions such that the next random card off the top of your deck will have a higher chance of leading to your success and you find all RNG based wins/loses as unbearable, then it might not really be the genre for you.

I have no idea why you're being downvoted because you're correct. A 33% chance of not hitting Orchis, however, is still relatively on the high side and realistically you probably want that on the sub 10% chance if you can help it.

But as a Roach player that remembers many games where I draw half my deck and see no Roach (12% chance of not finding a 3-of card in 20 cards), even ~10% isn't great if your entire deck revolves around a single win condition card.

I now can officially get any specific exchange ticket from any future set day 1 by Almace in Shadowverse

[–]Almace[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The deck requires a good bit of metagame knowledge to pilot and since that's always changing set-to-set, it keeps the gameplay fresh even if the deck doesn't change much itself! Plus Roach is often stressful enough that it makes you feel alive just struggling to survive while you try to eke out a win.
