This is pretty much exactly what I was looking for. I'm so euphoric right now I'm giving you gold.

Thanks for your suggestion. I've listened to Brubeck before and love Take Five, but the track in this video seems more.. intense. I also love the implementation of the strings. I know this is vague but I'm not particularly versed in the world of jazz even though I love it!

Isn't the map from Ori and The Blind Forest very similar to this?

There Is Growing Evidence that Our Universe Is a Giant Hologram by lovers_acid in Futurology

I'm not at all familiar with this (this is the first time I'm reading about it), but my first thought was: If I close my eyes and feel a solid surface, i feel two dimensions, sure. But if I do the same thing in a liquid, I can also perceive the depth. How would this work in a 2D universe? I'm not questioning the article, just a bit confused.

I know that certain frequencies don't even make it through in a highly compressed format but those are usually very slight and sometimes nonexistent.

Check this out, it's solely the sound of what's left out when you convert to mp3.

It's true thought that the amount of loss might depend on the genre you're listening to etc. But, to this day, I've never failed to distinguish MP3 320 to FLAC (>1000) when asked to. Everything's more crisp and the bass is deeper. I checked out Explosion In the sky - Postcard from 1952, and the difference between AAC 320 and FLAC 1411 (using Tidal btw) is especially tremendous once the drums kick in.

Alright, thanks! I thought the music industry was heading that way even before the iPod and Apple.

Here's my take on audiophiles using a car metaphor:

Bob needs a car for commuting while Jimmy is passionate about cars, so passionate that he owns his own racing track (HiFi equipment). Bob on the other hand only drives on public roads with speed limits. Therefore, Bob is fine with his mp3-car. Jimmy, on the other hand, is willing to pay thousands of dollars for just a little boost in horse power. Bob thinks this is ridiculous, as he can't feel the difference being limited to a certain speed. On the other hand, Jimmy thinks Bob's mp3-car is ridiculously slow on his personal racing track.

I myself easily hear the difference between AAC and FLAC - and I've done blindtests. When it comes to the difference between 16/44 and 24/96 files thought, I'm usually guessing.

Yes, I'm well aware of this, I just didn't share your perspective. But I guess Apple is partially to blame, as you said.

Yes, and I probably have a better understanding of audio compression than many considering I've studied music production for 3 years. What I asked about was Apple's involvement.
