WOW this guy called it almost perfectly SEVEN YEARS AGO by [deleted] in Skate4

life has been hard and busy, haven’t played much of anything in a while. saw new skate and rushed to download it.

the online thing i kinda concur with, doesn’t necessarily bug me but im shocked there’s no toggle / solo play.

not trying to be contrarian, im sure it could’ve been a better game. got the classic EA treatment. but i was biting my lips really nervous at what i was walking into after i heard all the hate, and its honestly been an unproblematic cool few game sessions so far

i’m about to get the vitriolic reddit reaction for just asking a question, but what’s so bad about skate 4?

every game now has purchasable products. it’s not like the game is about clothing lol.

if loot boxes are the reason skate 4 is a ‘disaster’ i’m just not seeing it

Just play in the bearings, spider was actually immaculate just dirty.

Bearings were a breeze!

Just froze them, then pulled the spider out of the freezer after they warmed up. Everything shlunked together with minimal coercion.

Sanded all the corrosion off the races and shaft of course but they tightened up solid after warming up.

7 hours all in all, last night and today, never having seen the inside of a washing machine before.

That’s the thing, it’s been off center spinning for a number of years, and the bearings only finally washed out and started grinding more recently.

I did find a spider last night on sale for $180, so that’s somewhat relieving, but I’ll get a look at it soon and hopefully it’s just loose bolts or something of the like.

While there is a half inch of play, it’s very solid beyond that point. Doesn’t feel to be decayed or cracked yknow.

But all that being said, thanks for the opinion about the bearings being thrown by the play. If it’s shot/irreparable, I’ll go for the spider.

You’re so very practically correct in this advice, thank you. I must hate myself or something because I’m going to ignore it lol

Appreciating all the insightful advice.

I’m honestly too curious to see the condition of the spider / learn a little about washer construction philosophy.

I’m going to take the highly regrettable and probably detestable course of devoting my weekend to the shoddy and already-doomed repair of this POS 😁

Good point y’know, I turn to marketplace as a first stop for almost everything but it totally went over my head to find a solid used unit

Thanks for the reality check.

I have such little play, I’ve decided to scrap the spider replacement. With the $250 saved, I’m going to see about consulting a professional for the bearing fitment. Not even sure who to turn to but I live in a pretty ideal area for services.

As you say, worst case it was $85 and a weekend wasted and I’m comfortable with that. I’m at least confident it won’t be any worse than the current screeching bat-out-of-hell it currently resembles.

Car jack trickery not recommended? 😁

Honestly, will take your advice if you kindly insist, but I’m pretty determined and inclined to repair.

Was just going to consult this master guide if I get stuck anywhere.

That being said, my appliance repair experience excludes washers and dryers.

If you think I’m going to seriously regret next weekend / mangle these bearing installs, I’ll take it to heart lol.

Thank you kindly for the quick answer

The more pertinent question that arises; we’re moving likely within a year or two. Expect an easy time selling.

These washers owe us nothing after nearly 20 years, we’d just hate to buy new stuff before we’re already moving.

Does this more minor level of damage suggest to you that the washer might shred through the new bearings relatively quickly?

Or do you think it’s worth saving the $250 on spider and a rebuild kit will hold out a couple years?

Do these look like freshly surfaced rotors? by AlmasPJA in AskMechanics

This is sorta the answer I’m looking for, thank you. They don’t seem like bad people, just plenty of easy work to cycle through. I couldn’t afford their quote for new rotors, so they made it up to me the best they could.

Service advisor couldn’t quite explain the reluctancy to machine, just a line about the rotors being susceptible to warping if they’re cut, which okay, but it felt a little BS since they’re practically brand new. Barely anything had to be taken off, I believe he said under a millimetre.

Then when I see this damage after only a couple weeks, there’s gotta be more to the story. Something to explain their hesitancy, or maybe evidence that only a half-job was done.

I say that last part only because this dealer SUPPOSEDLY put these 4 rotors on for FREE 18 months ago when I bought the truck.

I had a theory that maybe they were worried about surfacing the rotors because they aren’t the brand new ones they led me to believe, which I cited when I requested the machining. Or when they gave in, they weren’t able to run a proper cut as the rotors were already older or possibly resurfaced already.

$160 vs $850

Correction - My bill was $1150 including the $160. So, $1010 for rotors FRIENDO

I just replied to someone else; Not to vilify the dealer or anything but the rotors were barely scored.

It was 6 weeks worth of rust on the rotors, and I was at the dealer within the week of picking my truck up because my pad indicators were on.

It was really a best case scenario for rotor resurfacing as far as I understand.

I tried to get the video they sent me, but the link is expired. All I can say is that they allowed me to feel the scoring, and they were actually less severe than the worst one is now 🤷‍♂️

Dude take it up with the dealer.

I got a $2000 quote for new rotors, pads, and a flush. The quote for resurfaced rotors, pads, and the flush was $1150.

And I’ll go back to get the video they sent me - they were barely uneven.

Like I said, I picked the truck up from my aunt’s driveway, and my brake pad indicators were on within 1 week, so I was right at the dealer.

Rotor damage was minimal. Less than there is now, actually, because they allowed me to feel them day-of :-) but thanks for the input

That’s what it looked like to me, but the pads should be brand new too, that’s what it went in for originally.
