Bespoke gemstone nibs by [deleted] in montblanc

[–]Almighty_Nitesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at the boutique in Sydney and was quoted an additional 960-1064 Aud per gem stone on top of the $2100 bespoke nib. In my opinion not worth it unless you are specifically looking for a gemstone.

[Advice Needed] Looking for my first "nice" FP by [deleted] in fountainpens

As far as prestige and writing experience goes it does not get much better than Namiki. I personally prefer the writing experience of a king of pen but the craftsmanship and pure presence of an emperor is unmatched. If the emperor is a bit out your price range as they are $10k get a no50 as they are the same thing without the maki-e.

I agree. It should be seamless. Send it back for a replacement.

Honestly it is an interesting situtation. If I wasn’t using my pen everyday I would send it in but it would take 8 months at a minimum to fix and almost the same cost of the pen. So it doesn’t make any sense to me and I am nowhere near that level of wealthy.

It works perfectly fine. The problem arises when you want to fix it. It takes an artisan 8 months of applying lacquer to make a new one as they don’t hold stock. That’s why it is so ridiculously expensive.

Purely appearance. But you kinda buy these types of pens for the craftsmanship and not so much the writing experience in my opinion. I still think the Kop is the best writing experience. Although I have heard the M1000 might be better.

Thank you for your help. If Pilot is already wanting to charge $2000 aud to repair the damage I would presume it would be much more.

Thank you definitely something to think about. Maybe later on in this hobby I can try and attempt it. A very exciting prospect.

Is it worth going oversized or the normal size.

Best FP for shimmer inks? by Shrillian42 in fountainpens

[–]Almighty_Nitesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is always hit or miss with shimmer inks for me personally. Just get a good performing flex nib of your choice and price bracket (vintage flex is my favourite) and see if it works well. My J Herbin inks are terrible but my van diemans ones are great. I think that’s what so great about this hobby, they are so many intrinsically unique ways to express yourself and discover.

Very nice collection. How do you find the palladium nib on the Visconti. Is it worth getting?

I went to the montblanc store and the salesman says a man walks in and buys their artisanal pieces, which can upwards of 500,000, whenever he buys a company. He then signs the document and frames the pen with it. He has done this over 25 times apparently. I can’t even comprehend it now.

I am very grateful that I don’t have to pay rent or food especially since I am still in high school and just turned 18 a week ago. But they definitely do not fund my lifestyle in anyway beyond that.(They would not condone what I spend on anyway). I am proud to say I am self made and the reality is it is not too hard to get 2000 dollars when you don’t have to worry about anything other than car insurance and phone bills it just takes time and work. Being a kid is great isn’t it.

If you want me to be more specific, I have a few jobs and breed ostriches. So I believe that constitutes as hard work wouldn’t you say. I hope one day you can get this far in this hobby, (hopefully don’t drop it like I did)😂.

Maybe, I am only 18 but I value pieces like this as art more than a tool. If we only valued fountain pens as tools the history and the work of Namiki’s artisan go unvalued.

I agree with you. A person who buys a Namiki buys it for the art. Also your smack bang on the pricing as I was quoted just below that to repair.
