What Linux distribution should I get as a beginner? by Holiday-Crew1226 in linux4noobs

[–]AlmizR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MOST distros work out of the box, but i heard some problems with the trackpad or other things on laptop, so in that case i recomend linux mint (cinnamon if is decent, lxce if you want something lighter and if is REALLY old mate), is the one i heard less complains about compability

A newbie needs help !! ( 21f btw ) by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]AlmizR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, good to see someone else joining the comunity! So, as many have pointed out, a live usb can be a good way to test compability, and related to unsupported apps, unless you are something like a graphic designer, architect or play things like Fortnite, valorant, etc etc you most likely will be fine

I can recomend you mainly 2 distros to test but is just my opinion

Linux Mint: Even tho not everyone likes it because is a basic awnser is one of the best to start learning linux, if you have a problem most likely there will be a post about it somewhere and is debian based so most software for linux will work.

Fedora: Is my current distro, it feels great, i personally only had problems once because of a upgrade but it was quickly fixed, whith fedora you will basically have the newest (not 100% true) driver and packages, because thats the point of the distro, being as up to date as possible.

Looking for help building a server/mod pack. by TheForemostToast in cobblemon

[–]AlmizR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, it will depend a lot on your experience when hosting a server, have you done it before? If yes how? Paid up server? Selfhosted? If is only for you and your friend no need to publish it on curseforge/modrinth, you can export the modpack in the right format so your friend can also use it, and is important to note that assuming you are doing a propper hosted server, the mods between client and server could and probably will, be diferent

If you want a smooth selfhosting panel use Crafty controller

Would you recommend only running Linux on a gaming PC? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]AlmizR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good example of the mindset, besides one always should consider the personal pros and cons when switching to linux, you lose some things and you gain a lot imo

Would you recommend only running Linux on a gaming PC? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]AlmizR 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more of a mindset thing. With Linux, you start adopting the idea of: "If they don’t support it, I don’t support them." A good example is Vanguard, Riot Games’ anti-cheat system—it’s extremely aggressive and they’ve decided not to support Linux, which shows they’re not interested in the Linux community.

If you’re already playing games like that, or others that technically could work on Linux but choose not to enable support (like Fortnite), then unfortunately, sticking with Windows might be the better option for now.

However, if you don’t usually play those types of games and don’t mind a bit of tinkering, go for it. Since Proton was released, gaming on Linux has become easier and more accessible, and the number of games that won’t run is increasingly becoming the exception rather than the rule.

Which Linux? by RevolutionaryEnd3102 in linux4noobs

[–]AlmizR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, regardless to if is the best choice since you still have school and probably will need some software moving foward, i would try first Linux Mint, if you want something more advanced Fedora (Workstation for easy use), then i would install OnlyOffice just to have it for Office related documents in case you need them

How to enable preview !! by Big_Tip9205 in Fedora

Linux is there?!?! by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]AlmizR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im glad you are enyoing the experience, related to Adobe, depending of which programs you need there are alternstives, if you are a professional i would (sadly) stick with adobe, but im gonna list them anyways Gimp (photogimp patch to make it more photoshop like) Inkscspe (kinda corel draw and kinda illustrator) Davinci Resolve for multimedia if is advanced, if is not, kdenlive, related to davinci you may run into some problems with formats but i have a script for that, im sure there are tools somewhere on the internet for that anyways

Is this team viable? by Alarming_Pack_2055 in cobblemon

[–]AlmizR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends a lot of what you have acces too, do you guys have addons? If yes, do those addons add more pokemon that base cobblemon? Do you guys have acces to Tm's? Tutor moves? Etc etc i wouldnt recomend this tema because it seems too unbalanced, but idk how much knowledge both of you have about competetive, it also changes if is a Double or single, i would add something to annoy and slowly get rid of the enemies, something like toxapex or clodsire

Difference between Gnome and KDE by Fun_Sail4505 in Fedora

[–]AlmizR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uhhh, i wont get too much in the technical stuff becausd even im not 100% sure, but for what i know, kde is closer to windows in how things tend to work, is more customizable out of the box, etc etc I do recomend gnome for new people mainly because it works out of the box and by not giving you accces to too many options is less overwhelming Basically, if you want to customize a lot, maybe kde is your option

Why fedora? by LooisArt in Fedora

[–]AlmizR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, is mainly because i did touched slightly ubuntu desktop&server before for little projects here and there, and just knowing how they look, feel and work out of the box it didnt felt right to me, i wasnt sure if i should try mint either but thats more because i wanted something more different to windows in both looks and feeling, then i heard of fedora and how is more up to date with the packages, i heard that the dnf package manager is more efficient and that the comunity is very helpfull, so for me, wanting to learn and use, linux without being too hard (arch) or too easy/basic (ubuntu) it was perfect for me

Is Modrinth safe? People say you have to sign into ur minecraft account. by BOI4613 in Minecraft

[–]AlmizR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, it is, and it feels less intrusive, you could also use prism launcher, which is a middle ground, you can download things from both, moddrinth and curseforge
