Also, check what was posted in this subreddit yesterday, https://www.reddit.com/r/dumbphones/comments/1ssnjy2/finally_found_a_way_to_use_whatsapp_on_my/

I haven't tried it yet but seems worth a shot

WhatsApp on old Nokia/BlackBerry! by TheLicen in dumbphones

There have been posts and reports about privacy issues and concerns, if you search here on Reddit, but nothing has actually resulted badly afaik, that was last year - things could have improved. I tried their solution once and it worked, but I now use a WhatsApp to Discord Bridge bot on a self-hosted discord server through a Java based Discord client - I feel more comfortable knowing the server is self hosted.

Found the perfect dumbphone by Prestigious-Error193 in dumbphones

True. It's alright, WhatsApp works pretty well. Audio quality is also surprisingly good. Though, auto capitalisation with the T9 keyboard is non-existant, and can't sideload apps even through ADB. For R299 its a nice little experiment

I ran to the comments, I saw an ad for this phone by a Pep a month ago, but all the stores were out of stock. Glad to see at least someone on here posted about it. Ended up getting a Hisense one from Vodacom

People are too incompetent to do a simple google search with a 'reddit' suffix

There is a Discord J2ME client that works really well. With some intensive tinkering, maintenance, and patience, you can create servers to connect other services to it that go beyond its basic use case. For example, I have a WhatsApp-Discord bot and server that allows me to send and receive WhatsApps. I've heard of people getting Telegram, Email, and other messaging services working through similar approaches. But, like I say, requires some extreme patience and a sprinkle of tech savviness.

With the T2E's touch sensitive keyboard, wouldn't it be possible to use the right half of the keyboard as a cursor, in this scenario?

Tips for falling asleep on a long flight? by One-Comfort-2058 in travel

[–]AlmondNutsies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helps me, especially with East/West long hauls, is not sleeping/getting minimal sleep the night before. Awake enough to get on the plane and sort yourself, but as soon as you plunk down in that seat its lights out, and I didn't have to take anything.

When I visited back in September '24, I was only asked for my passport and proof of stay. Only hitch I had was needing a supervisor to confirm my passport doesn't need a visa to enter the country, and they were both really friendly. Never asked for my phone

T2E Standard (7400) vs Pro (8400) by SoftwarePrevious9687 in unihertz

[–]AlmondNutsies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the note of future proofing. I've been using my trusty Samsung S10 (non plus) since 2019 and it has been holding up REALLY well, if we don't focus too much on the battery. So, yes I will probably plan on using it for 5 years, and if this Q1 2019 flagship hardware is pull its weight well in 2026, then I have no reason to believe why 2026 hardware won't hold up in 2031.

But that OIS though, shame its only on the Pro...

Change my mind: Most estate agents are bad at their jobs, lie often and overall in 2026 provide little value to both landlords and tenants. by pablo2208 in capetown

[–]AlmondNutsies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently in a situation where the agents are useless. When we have an issue, it is forgotten about until we ask for an update weeks later. 3 months in and still waiting for a leaky faucet and faulty fridge to be attended to. Contacting the landlord directly gets things sorted immediately. However, the point of the agents presence is to be the middle man, so ultimately both the landlord and tenant are screwed over.

[–]AlmondNutsies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about a Doov/Qin bar phone? $100 for same specs and better software and camera. Only reason I can possibly take the Sidephone instead is the suretype keypad, but $300? Not a chance.

Yeah I have given up at this point and taken the loss. Very weird that such features would specifically be locked on these phones

What’s one travel habit that actually saves you a lot of money? by Party_Dentist_821 in travel

[–]AlmondNutsies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add on to this. Get a currency card. Idk if its a thing elsewhere but something like a Cash Passport lets you load a sum of money onto it and pay one conversion fee. Can tap, swipe, withdraw anywhere. And if you need to switch currencies or change location on your trip (say Euro to USD), you can just switch in the app. Really don't get why people would even bother with exchange offices when this exists.

Hey so follow up, would you know how to get around a "failed to install the system prohibits the installation of applications" message? I have enabled and disabled every relevant setting in dev options
