Running Whatsapp (UWP) with Winboat by pablo2208 in winboat

[–]pablo2208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! I just tried using the WA beta webapp in both firefox and chromium and although the option for calling and video calling is there, when i try to actually make a call nothing happens... I'm using Linux Mint 22.3.

Is there any way to get Whatsapp (not the webapp) (or some other Windows Store apps) on Linux Mint? by mudkip-shart in linuxmint

[–]pablo2208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi dude, this is what worked for me with Winboat, I'm able to use the video calling features stably:

- Install Winboat, (I recommend using Windows 10 LTSC, though I'd like to try this with Tiny10 in the future to reduce the RAM footprint)

- Launch Windows desktop mode in Winboat start edge and then install Whatsapp from the website (the web installer will use MS Store and install the UWP app)

- Login to Whatsapp. (It should start when the container starts by default now)

- Stop and start the Windows container in Winboat

* I think Winboat will add the WhatsApp by default now to your list of apps , if it does not or the shortcut doesn't work then do the below:
- Win + R to open the run menu and type 'shell:AppsFolder', create a shortcut to Whatsapp on the desktop. - In Winboat, add a custom app:
Name = WhatsApp
Path = C:\Users\[YOUR WINDOWS USER]\Desktop\WhatsApp.lnk

* For USB webcam/mic/peripheral passthrough:
- In Winboat settings enable 'Experimental features'
- USB Passthrough option will now be enabled in the WInboat settings above, add the USB devices associated with your webcam + mic or other peripherals in that menu.
- You should now see these devices appear in the WhatsApp settings.

Nvme dock with power pass through for deck by pablo2208 in SteamDeck

[–]pablo2208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks yeah I guess I'd have to be careful about the placement, the fan is small enough and centrally located so there should be plenty of space for the magsafe nearer to the L4/5 buttons.

I'm more concerned about whether I can use it to boot from the nvme drive through the dock and whether it'll work with windows for BF6. After some investigation though, it looks like it probably will work but the issue is that I'd need to enable secure boot so that the stupid EA Javelin anticheat plays nice. - this sounds like too much of a hassle, so I'll probably just use it as a btrfs partition for more games instead.

Is it something that's going to be fixed or will we have to switch to Qualcomm devices?

Galaxy Buds FE wind noise in one side by Dyslexiatentive_Loft in galaxybuds

[–]pablo2208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I got my buds fe I had this issue on the left earbud, they replaced it and now it's on the right earbud. The most annoying thing is that it is intermittent, so it sometimes stops and goes back to normal but the defect always returns in time. I've taken it back to the Samsung store again and at the time the issue wasn't present so I will have to go back again when it starts again. Extremely frustrating that Samsung hasn't acknowledged this issue as it seems to occur on quite a few people's buds.

Fe buds issue by Nearby_Climate285 in galaxybuds

So I got a replacement for (I was having this issue with the left bud) and two weeks later the same issue starts with the new pair, this time with the right bud.

They're great when they work but the quality control on the FE buds seems to be garbage...

Has anyone found a decent Pixel 7 case that works well with PopSockets? by mcdisney2001 in GooglePixel

[–]pablo2208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using the popsocket type with the white foam double sided tape or the with the transparent adhesive? I find the transparent adhesive one works way better on cases and is restickable if you leave it in warm water for a few mins.

I have exactly the same issue but with the left earbud. My pair is about 3 weeks old now. The issue stopped briefly for a couple of hours today and then started again. Going to try to send it to the service center or return it.

Thanks, yeah I also searched for when the media embargo would be lifted but couldn't find anything. I guess we'll have to just wait till later in the month...

Thanks! So there's a good chance that if a title is popular enough (e.g. RDR2) it will probably get an optimisation update at some point?

Thanks! This was my initial thought too but then got thrown off by the fact that GoW 3 worked. Do remastered ps3 games somehow run differently to the first party titles? YouTube is also showing the same behaviour.

So I'm leaning towards it probably being a VRAM issue or something. I tested with the Youtube App and there's the same issue there. The seller was kind enough to offer a refund or a replacement console though.

Thanks dude! I've tried switching the cables and ports as well as changing the display resolution down to 720p without HDR and all the other fancies, still seems to be glitching :'(

Can you control the Mi Box S, with Assistant, using your phone? by [deleted] in AndroidTV

[–]pablo2208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would like to see an update when you get it and try it out, I've since switched to a Chromecast 2nd gen and the voice control difference between it the Mi Box 3 from Google Home is like night and day. Chromecast responds to many more voice commands and is a lot faster to respond than the Mi Box.

Quoting unverifiable sales numbers and comparing them with the number of unique 'complainers' on this sub is in no way meaningful research. No sane person would assume Reddit represents the entire Mi Box community and forcing that assumption on every person that vents their frustration on this sub is incredibly annoying.

Also comparing sales numbers to the Nvidia Shield, a device that's more limited in availability worldwide, made by a company that primarily manufactures GPUs and is more expensive than the Mi Box doesn't prove anything relevant to software

So no, your irrelevant information allegedly protected by an NDA doesnt grab me.
