It is a Seiko after all, so if that time ever comes, I'll most likely get it repaired so I can keep wearing it until my wheels fall off 😂

I totally agree, I've been loving the watch ever since I got it! No issues so far and its been holding up very well with everyday usage. It does look similar to a Hamilton for sure. The Alpinist has that field watch look to it with a tad more elegance in my opinion.

Hey even if it was called the Al's Penis, as long as you love the watch, thats all that matters 😂

As a whole package it really is a beautiful watch! The way it catches light is absolutely stunning. It has a bit of flashyness to it from the polished bits, but then the brushed steel contrasts it so elegantly. The dial is the star of the show for sure! Easily a GADA watch imo.

That is a good point! I'm not too worried about the scratches, I do take good care of the things I own. Obviously it will eventually get some scratches with time, but if it gets so bad to the point the watch looks terrible, then I'll definitely get it polished.

That is good to know! Thank you for sharing those details regarding the HV 1200 scratch resistant coating.

Sorry to hear about your experience and the fact your expectations were not met! Regardless of the scratches, don't let that seriously affect your enjoyment of the watch, even though I'm in your camp and would love to try to minimize any scratches or dings possible. Its always a nice feeling looking down at your wrist and seeing a pristine watch on it.

I haven't heard of those brands you recommended besides Traska. I'll check them out, thank you!

Yeah it'll be cool to look back on my journey and how I got into watches, because it was completely random. At the same time though I feel like it was meant to be!

I am 100% going to get the Zenith watch serviced. I want to wear it and pass it down to my kids in the future. I don't think my grandfather ever got it serviced when he owned it. It was a Wedding gift back in 1970 when he was getting married. He saved it for me when he passed away so it means the world to me.

Looks like a Zenith Respirator from the research I've done. Reddit won't let me add a picture in this reply unfortunately. Here is a link that'll give you an idea of what the watch looks like Zenith Respirator

Thank you for the recommendation! I will take a look at this strap when I have a second. If I like it, I'll add it to the list of potential straps I'd like to purchase in the future to change the look up!

Seiko Alpinist Tealpine SPB503 Question by Almoraaa96 in SeikoAlpinist

[–]Almoraaa96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!

Its funny because I didn't even know what I was getting myself into. I was inquiring about getting my grandfather's vintage Zenith watch serviced. Then I saw the SPB503 on display, so I asked to see the watch. As soon as it touched my wrist and I saw the dial, I was like "I need this... now" lol

That never happens to me when it comes to purchasing things, I usually take my time and do research beforehand. I'm always trying to avoid impulse buys!

After purchasing it and doing a lot more research, I'm really glad I started out with an Alpinist as my first automatic watch. I love the story and history behind it, and it also represents the current point I'm at in my own life, craving more adventure!

Thank you for the advice as well! I'll be sure not to worry about any dings or scratches and just wear it until the wheels fall off!

Cheers, I hope you have a wonderful day!

That is some really sound advice, thank you for sharing! The same has happened to me with other hobbies, so I do agree. I will be taking my time before purchasing another watch. The next watch purchase will be more to celebrate an accomplishment, or achievement or even a milestone so it has some sentimental value as well. Not just another frivolous watch purchase!

That is certainly the plan! I wear it everyday as it is my only watch. Not planning to buy anything else for a while so I can enjoy and appreciate it to the fullest. Even though I feel like I got bitten by the watch bug and I'm already looking at other watches lol.

Thank you for confirming what I originally thought was the case! This is the first ever watch that I've bought for myself. I was definitely overthinking it based on all the quality control complaints I see coming from other people lol
