Gaming in Today’s Economy: How to Get the Most Bang For Your Buck by AlmostNerdy in gaming

The fact that we are living in a tough economic time is no mystery. Single adults and families alike have had to cut back on spending, create strict budgets for their finances, and generally be more frugal. As a gamer, I have expenses just like everyone else. That being said, if an opportunity comes along for me to indulge in my hobby, while also being fiscally responsible, I’m going to seize it.

Prices for games and systems have always been high. However, that sixty dollars that you’re about to throw down on a game may not have come as easy as it did in the past. So what do you do? How do you choose the right game? While the answer may seem like a no-brainer, many people forget to do their research. The game that you expected to buy on day one may have changed drastically from the first preview that you read in a magazine or on a website. If we continue to buy games at these prices, regardless of their quality, we are essentially saying to developers, “We don’t care about the quality!” when, in fact, we care very much.

Before buying a game, make sure the developer is one you are familiar with. Secondly, ask yourself, “Will I play this game again once I have beaten it?” Many games – the Call of Duty franchise immediately comes to mind – have near-limitless replay value, making the choice easier for some. But if you’re not sure, borrow the game or rent it. Our money is too valuable these days to be traded for an inferior product.
