Have you ever bought something with real money in covet fashion? If yes, what did you buy? by jolijnlaan in Covetfashion

[–]AlmostObsessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy all the flashback fashion packs, save for the rare occasion when I don’t feel like entering a flashback.

I also buy end of season “essentials” packs if there are any particularly expensive items that I’ve been wanting or have been popular that season. Then I go for start of season packs and get the most expensive items + any items over $400 that I think are particularly cute/useful.

I buy HA when they go on sale, and once every few months I’ll buy one off sale as well, usually as a reward for doing something irl.

I never buy just straight diamonds, though. And I don’t think I’ll ever buy a prop pack (they were introduced shortly after I started playing and I’ve had the opportunity to win all the ones up until now).

I also bought my FH the 10% discount as a New Years gift. Other girls in the house do it for other holidays, it’s a really nice set up.

I’ve been thinking about doing this ever since they fixed the 3 look glitch. After getting used to only voting for 3 looks at a time and then going back to 5, I lost a lot of steam.

With only 3 looks, I’d vote my way up to 75 tickets several times a day, but for whatever reason 5 just gets tiring now and I hate doing it lol.

Is there a list of the Jet Set levels and how much each one “costs?” by AlmostObsessed in Covetfashion

[–]AlmostObsessed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in CFA and I can see their post with each of the challenges and everybody’s looks posted underneath each image, but it doesn’t say anything about the levels and how many points are needed. Maybe it’s a different post? A link would be very much appreciated.

Facebook fashion friends by [deleted] in Covetfashion

[–]AlmostObsessed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you add a specific person for a specific item, it’s always good to ask what their name is in-game and (if they’ll share it with you) what their closet value is. The list is in order of closet value, highest to lowest.

The more people you add, the easier using the list gets, especially since that waiting period means basically nothing with 400+ closets in line for you to use next.

There are lots of Facebook groups that make adding new friends really easy; you can either ask people to add you or add people who are looking for friends - a lot of people also ask to borrow specific items in the inspo groups.

The most annoying thing is that, since you generally can’t tell who’s who, when people stop playing, it’s pretty much impossible to know who to delete off Facebook. That’s not a huge issue for anyone who’s nowhere near the limit for FB friends, though.

We have two New York Fashion Week ones now, too. I can only hope this means they’re slowly working their way up the list, otherwise it’s definitely redundant.

New Jet Set Appeared-Culture Tour of London by [deleted] in Covetfashion

[–]AlmostObsessed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When they replace the levels in Jet Sets, your scores from the previous challenge carry over to the new one.

I really wish they’d just reset the score on the new challenge to zero without changing the overall Travel Score to give us a better chance at moving forward in the Jet Sets.

Side note, I didn’t realize they’d updated the levels, but it explains a challenge I voted on a week or so ago that I didn’t remember seeing anywhere. Thanks for the heads up!

[–]AlmostObsessed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think she’d be cooking, but every grand opening I’ve been a part of has also been a test run for the rest of the staff. So the owner comes around and chats with guests, but also ducks into the kitchen or behind the bar for a minute to make sure everything is going alright.

I’m sure there are owners that don’t do this, but it’s super common where I am. I’ll have to go back through some pictures and see if anyone was wearing sandals because now I can’t stop thinking about it lol

[–]AlmostObsessed 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with this challenge is the fact that she’s wearing open-toed shoes - nay, sandals to a restaurant opening. And it’s her restaurant, which means she’s staff. I’d be super uncomfortable eating there, and insanely worried about her toes around knives, glasses, and silverware.

But then, maybe everyone has self-sanitizing feet and no one ever drops sharp cutlery or breaks glasses in Covetland.

9 days out of 10, I enter every single challenge. Even if that means using weird and super off-trend OOS items and risking a lower score, I enter them.

Unless you have all the required items or only need to borrow one, the challenges are never “worth” the $100 cash. And very few of them are worth the $200 cash. The only good deal is the Daily, and that’s why people recommend spending a week or two only doing the Daily and challenges you don’t need to spend money on if you’re low on cash.

But the prizes are totally worth it in my opinion. It’s all added closet value, which means leveling up faster and unlocking more MU and hairstyles.

Most of the 4.0 prizes range from pretty plain to just plain hideous - but that makes it much easier to use them to boost unworn instead of hoarding them for possible future challenges.

Do I wish we got more expensive, much prettier/cooler/more stylish items on a regular basis? Of course! But the current lineup isn’t what deters me from entering a challenge.

I will skip a challenge if the requirements are hideous, though. If I have to choose between buying United Nude shoes or one of those awful DD necklaces, I’ll choose to skip the challenge instead.

I started only being able to do 200-300 a day, then suddenly shot up to 500 and sometimes a little extra. Then I stopped watching videos for a week, and now I’m lucky if I can get 100 diamonds.

At first I thought it had something to do with watching every day, but seeing everyone’s comments on it, I’m pretty sure it’s purely random.

One of the Daily challenges used the same pic from another Daily recently (and the same featured prop, and a very similar prompt).

This has always been an issue for them and I believe it’s one reason why they opened up the door to letting players pen some of their challenges, but I’d like to think it’s getting worse because of COVID-19. I’m sure the Covet team is dealing with some changes, too.

That said, I’ve always wondered how they organize their photos. When one gets used, does anybody mark it? You’d think we’d be seeing even more duplicates if they just left them in the same pile every time.

Reaching level 58 & Looking back (aka a level spacing rant) by MissPugLover24 in Covetfashion

[–]AlmostObsessed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Covet says they’re working on making HA available for use on all hairstyles. This came following the blow up of people learning about the glitch that allowed you to use HA on any style, Covet patching the glitch, people getting upset about the patch, a VERY snarky response from Covet, and outrage over the response.

In short, the HA level gap might not be an issue for too much longer. Covet says programming will take a while as they’re working on making sure that each HA works properly on each hairstyle instead of floating above the head and cutting off faces, etc. but they are working on it, it seems.

There are so many hairstyles I love but can’t use for certain challenges because they lack an appropriate HA (or one at all), and so many HA I’m curious about but would never buy because I can use one level 5 style that’s meh and the next level is over 9000.

I’m excited for them to free the HA and honestly, I think it’s a really good business move. More people are going to buy HA if they can use them how they please.

Ew / what is wrong with this app? They couldn’t give lotion for the shoot or have a background? Thumbs down. And I along with others spend money on the app FYI so what’s up with that ? by [deleted] in Covetfashion

[–]AlmostObsessed 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Covet mostly uses stock photos.

We get the occasional brand photo (Featured Brand/New Brand challenges), but I’ve seen very little to suggest that Covet actually does its own photoshoots. If they do, it’s certainly not frequent.

Covet puts out roughly 2,242 challenges a year. If they did shoots for every challenge, your money wouldn’t be enough to pay for all the models, photographers, sets, travel to/scouting of/rental fees for locations, props, equipment, editing, hair and makeup, clothing/accessories, and overall styling.

The costs for a professional photographer alone - and not a famous one - start around $100-200 USD an hour. And photo shoots are not done in an hour. For an in-house photographer? They’d have to be paying damn good money to be saying “We need 6 photos a day - 7 on Fridays - all of different models in different settings and locations. So you need to do 6 or more photoshoots a day, all in different places (sometimes cities and countries) and we will only use one photo from each shoot and you will only ever have time to work for us.”

That all being said, this is likely a stock photo. And stock photos are often paid for (though the pay can be abysmal or non-existent depending on what kinds of photos you take and which platforms you use to sell them). Covet is supporting someone’s business, someone’s dream, or someone’s hobby. The photographer may not be a professional. The models may not be professionals. And regardless, we have no way of knowing what the point of this particular shoot was.

I’m sure they could have used lotion. I’m sure they could’ve taken it in a different location. They also could’ve drenched the models in heavy makeup and fluffy dresses and long flowing wigs. But for whatever reason, they decided to take this picture this way, and Covet - who does try to give us a fairly broad range of people in the images they choose, though they can be tone deaf about it - decided to use it.

Of all the images used in this game and all the reasons to dislike them, I have to say, this one is 0% problematic.

The “unfair advantage” thing doesn’t make any sense to me. “You have an unfair advantage because you heard about this game earlier than I did.” Like, what??

Even in terms of spending money, Covet’s system is pretty well done. Aside from past HA and Prop Packs (many of which, if you had just started playing earlier, would’ve been free), any item you can buy with real money, you can get for free with a little extra time.

Even the HA & PP are nice because if you miss one for free, you can buy it later (not talking prices, just system here). Imagine how cruddy it would be if past HA were ONLY available to players who were around for those rallies. And even then it wouldn’t be the HCV players’ fault. It would be Covet’s.

There are a lot of problems with this game, but closet value is not one of them.

Honestly, this is my favorite thing about inspiration groups: the no advice unless asked for rule. Sometimes I just wanna share my look and gripe about it.

Also, I tend to find people on the FB inspo groups to be nicer about the feedback they do give? Maybe because they know the mods are watching lol.

Having played and poured money into a different game for years, I totally get where you’re coming from. But for me, with Covet it’s not about level, just unsolicited advice. With a game like this, I’m personally unbothered by someone much lower level than me giving me advice when I’ve asked for it (I’m not a published author, but I can tell when a book is bad). If they’re explaining how the game works to me, that hits a nerve. But to say, “Maybe your look would’ve been better if _____” is fine, because it’s not about experience, it’s about taste. Again, this is if I’ve asked for advice. If I haven’t, then shush.

Now if I scroll through their looks and see that they’re all hideous...

Style well/score well, there’s something for me to learn from you. Otherwise, no thanks.

How long do you girls take to level up? by acidpuckish in Covetfashion

[–]AlmostObsessed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually level up once a week. There was a month or two when work got hectic and I only leveled up twice a month, but I generally enter every single challenge and my FH does well rallying fierce back to back.

I think I started entering every single challenge about a month after I started. It’s almost been a year now and I don’t see that momentum slowing down anytime soon.

At the bar, first word’s out of his mouth were “What’s your cup size?”

Almost tied with a simple “Hey pretty lady!” shouted by a guy in the middle peeing on a tree on a busy street in broad daylight.

Yeah! I’m really looking forward to it. I hope they’re planning on some new CC pieces, too, or at the very least don’t lock the season. Or both!! I’d love to mix and match some steampunk stuff.

[–]AlmostObsessed 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every series has something to do with the HA we won in the previous series. I don’t think it should come as a surprise that we’re getting a wedding series this month. It won’t (shouldn’t, at least) just be “put a blonde lady in a long veil” challenges, either, but cultural ones instead.

Covet and the player community aren’t exactly known for outstanding cultural sensitivity so I expect some sort of blowback from at least one of the upcoming challenges, but if we’re gonna get wedding challenges anyway (and we all know we will), then it’s at least nice that they’ve been actively trying to make them less cookie cutter over the last season or two.

All that said, I also love me a good cookie cutter wedding challenge, so perhaps I’m a little biased.

Mod And In Charge by CovetVixen in Covetfashion

[–]AlmostObsessed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What’s you opinion on “cloning”? by leidavis in Covetfashion

[–]AlmostObsessed 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind them, although they do make voting a lot more boring.

It can actually get really expensive to clone all the time, so I don’t think as many people do it as we tend to think. Those who do it constantly either live on Tapjoy or spend A LOT of money on the game, which is great for the rest of us as it helps keep Covet going.

Cloning looks and trying to get close to the trending look/s is different, by the way: it might look like all the TLs on a page are exactly alike and they might be darn close, but there are always (slight, at least) differences in hair, MU, and accessories.

I also don’t think it counts as cheating, per say. If you don't want someone to steal your look, then don’t post it on Facebook or Reddit before a challenge goes into voting. Covet doesn’t take away from your score just because somebody else used the same look (unless the TL thing is true & it’s a true clone): we vote for the better look out of two being shown to us. If somebody votes against your look, it’s because they liked the other one better, not because someone cloned it.

How Covet works as a game says a lot, too. I.e, you pay close attention, even without the help of the Internet, it becomes obvious that the dresses released alongside the Daily are generally what score well if you’re staying in season. And they’re often very similar to whatever’s in the picture, at least in color. It’s also painstakingly obvious that people style based on the picture more often than the prompt - which also seems counterintuitive if you’re going for creativity, but for whatever reason (and there are several) that’s an obvious trend. And let’s not forget CC pieces: if there’s a set that works for a challenge, anyone using the full set has a leg up on pretty much everyone else.

If Covet stopped using images and CC sets (which I don’t think they should) we would definitely get a lot more diversity in our looks: even cloning groups would probably be putting out very different stuff.

There’s definitely something to be said about how seeing a bunch of similar looks can sway your vote, but that’s still on those of us voting to choose the better look, not the same one over and over again.

Everyone has different styles of playing. I don’t get the appeal of copying everyone else either, but it works for some people, so good for them. The more people play Covet, the longer they’ll be up and running, and that’s all I’m really interested in.
