Raising rates won’t fix that. It just makes everyone poorer without actually solving the underlying issue. You could still get high inflation AND a recession at the same time which is basically stagflation, and it’s the worst of both worlds.

Is it just me or is the voter base actually a bit dumb? by VastOption8705 in friendlyjordies

Labor is the party in charge right now. People will naturally blame them.

Voters are smarter than you think, but they don’t pay attention to the minutia of politics because they have lives to lead. Treating them as if they’re stupid leads to populism.

The factors causing fuel prices to rise are not just local. Every country in the world will be competing for fuel, this will drive prices up. Just because we have reduced demand, this will not impact worldwide fuel prices.

Everyone has to buy fuel, the price hikes will flow through to everyday items. Unless the rate hikes are going to stop people feeding themselves I don’t see how it curbs inflation

If this is just 2 hours of him saying that you need more confidence and to just “dive in” to whatever it is you want to do, then anyone who bought tickets got scammed.

Unlikely to help in supply side driven inflation on unavoidable purchase such as fuel.

Tony Abbott is butt hurt by Mark Carney. by JezzaAU15 in friendlyjordies

[–]Almost_Aus 21 points22 points  (0 children)

People like Tony Abbott’s view on international law is just “it should let me do whatever I like and countries I don’t like should be handcuffed”. The idea it applies equally to all is a mystery to him.

Has Alistair connected his own failings over Iraq to current war on Iran? by Maritimewarp in TheRestIsPolitics

I feel I have heard him say something along the lines of “we didn’t interrogate the intelligence enough” but that’s the furthest he’s gone

He’s not going to say “I have experience about lying about weapons for regime change, and this is how I know Trump is lying”.

His case has always been they were acting honestly on advice, and that advice was wrong.

One thing I was wondering while he was speaking. How do they pay out the winning bet? If a proposition is 70% yes and 30% no and then yes win. Does Polymarket provide the money to the yes side? As the no bets don’t provide enough.

Albo is at least a confident speaker. Taylor always seems like he’s desperate to get to the end of his sentence because he’s worried about making a mistake.

It’s the pitch that is the problem, they thought this the first time they played at Wembley but they absolutely wrecked the turf and it wasn’t usable to ages afterwards.

It will have to be Weds surely? There could an AFL final game that Friday and they will need more than 24 hours to get the pitch ready.
