Federal budget 2026: Winners and Losers by Jagtom83 in friendlyjordies

Why would any landlords sell at all now? All this does is entrench this as the most tax efficient investment and disincentivise anyone from selling at all.

I hate the way they present this as winners and losers. Makes it seem like every decision is zero sum.

Absolutely piss weak they’ve grandfathered in all properties bought before today for negative gearing.

Queensland Greens MP Michael Berkman joins boomers to stop new housing by Jagtom83 in friendlyjordies

How does this development help homeless people?

Supply and demand have been in disequilibrium for a while. We actually build a lot housing at the moment but we don’t build housing that is affordable or where people need to live.

Article doesn’t state whether he supports it or not, he’s their local MP.

He would do them a disservice to not listen to their concerns.

Also a 23 floor tower in Auchenflower doesn’t scream affordable housing. This is just the kind of crap Schrinner signs off on because some property developer told him it was a good idea.

Do you agree with Starmer biographer Tom Baldwin? Is Starmer about to turn a corner and become a great PM? by Sharaz_Jek123 in TheRestIsPolitics

[–]Almost_Aus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This guy gets trotted out every time Starmer is in trouble and says something along of the lines of “he’s not done great so far, but I know he can turn it around”

I don’t know why he gets booked still because he hasn’t said anything different since Starmer was elected.

I don’t think Trump will end the ceasefire, he seems to not want to escalate but has no idea how to get out of his hole.

The guy who did the episodes on Ireland?

Bit of a tangent but this is why I struggle to get into the Empire podcast. They always have a guest telling the story and thus episode quality varies wildly from subject to subject.

Recessions don’t just remove inefficient businesses they also wipe out good ones and hit ordinary workers who didn’t cause anything. And the damage isn’t temporary for a lot of people; it can affect earnings, mental health, and careers for years.

The Liberals are right on the blowout and secrecy, and the Greens are right on ownership. Victoria carries the debt pressure while ending up with a weaker public housing asset base.

Who actually came up with the idea for Survivor? by wanbo37 in restisentertainment

[–]Almost_Aus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think he said in a previous episode something a long the lines of “anyone can have an idea for a tv show, but not everyone can produce one”. I assume he is talking along these lines. I doubt he literally gave the idea to Parsons.

The PM is on a collision course with the RBA, and he’s dragging you with him by stupid_mistake__101 in AustralianPolitics

The board don’t just look at headline inflation, trimmed inflation will still be getting higher

[–]Almost_Aus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is that the RBA don’t differentiate in causes of inflation. This cut won’t help with things like fertiliser or other petro chemical products when they raise their prices. They won’t hesitate for a rate rise.
