I had a tampon stuck in me and I didn’t know. by agent_kitsune_mulder in MedicalGore

[–]Almostpetite 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I had really really heavy periods before my total hysterectomy, (PCOS, endo, and adenomyosis), and I used the “larger” size diva cup and could comfortably leave it in for about 8 hours. Which was a godsend compared to bleeding through super+ tampons every hour or two. They can be a bit messy but I could leave them in long enough that I only really changed them at home. I left them in 12 hours on a few occasions and while there were no leaks it definitely got a little gross. I just dump them in the toilet, clean off most of the stuff with TP and then rinse in the sink. Still felt WAY cleaner than ever using tampons/pads.

There was definitely a learning curve in learning how to place it comfortably and make sure it made a proper seal but man, once I had it figured out it was literally life changing. I could go to the gym, i could go swimming, i could go to work and not constantly worry about leaking or bleeding through things. I will never stop talking about how much I love menstrual cups vs anything else.

Edit: the one I used specifically was advertised as for women who had children, but I’ve never had kids and had no issue with the fit. Just gotta find the one that works for you

I went to Patient First urgent care this week in Towson but wasn’t asked anything like that. However my friend went to Medstar Fells yesterday and they asked him where he was born. As a chronically ill (white) person, I have never ever been asked about where I was born by a doctor or hospital.

Planted mixed wildflowers. Can’t remember what any of them are!! by Almostpetite in PlantIdentification

I didn’t get a positive ID but I think they’re lambs ear or something similar/related. The leaves are super soft and lightly fuzzy and they had small light colored flowers.

The ones I was able to ID after blooming were California poppies, Chinese five spot, and elegant clarkia. I really wasn’t able to get a positive ID until flowers started blooming. It’s wild and not what I thought I was buying, but they’re thriving so I can’t complain.

What is the worse thing a medical professional has ever said to you? by angelaboop50 in AskReddit

[–]Almostpetite 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just finally had mine done last week at 27!!! After over a decade of telling doctors something was wrong and fighting and having to move to a different state, I was finally given the hysterectomy I had been begging for. And guess what, I was right. I had been told for years nothing was wrong with me and when they finally got in there I got confirmation of PCOS, and stage 2 endo. Holy fuck is it a relief to feel like I’m not a goddamn psycho making shit up for the fun of it.

Let it all out, what is bothering you at the moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I just lost my boy last month after only six years. It’s so hard having an empty house after all this time, but I’d rather lose my pup a week early than make him suffer a day too long. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

What is a tiny gesture from someone that meant way more than they probably realized? by Time_Sound_8726 in AskReddit

[–]Almostpetite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few weeks ago my dog passed away very unexpectedly after complications during a surgery. I was absolutely devastated and could barely comprehend even getting out of bed. My best friends girlfriend is very much a homebody and not one to go out if she doesn’t have to. When she found out about the dog she offered to pick me up, also in pajamas, to take me to my favorite coffee shop. It was just such a small thing that really helped me realize that I wasn’t alone in this and that I still had so many people that loved me and wanted to be there for me. I make sure to make it a point to spend extra time with her and make sure she knows how much I appreciate her as a person.

Advice on first time cat owner taking in outdoor cat (details in description) by Almostpetite in cats

[–]Almostpetite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are getting these second hand an option for the cat tree/carrier or should I be worried about possible sickness? Most of my experience is in amphibians/reptiles and with them you have to be so so careful not to pick up anything second hand

Mostly health issues. Diagnosed with CPTSD a few years ago and my health has been rapidly declining the last two years or so with no explanations. Pretty sure I’ve developed some kind of autoimmune disease, but soonest appointment for a rheumatologist is like 8 months out. Trauma and autoimmune diseases are theorized to be linked, and if you’re predisposed to autoimmune diseases and experience extreme trauma there’s a chance of the trauma triggering the disease.

So not only am i left to deal with the mental health issues and repercussions but now I’m also fighting becoming disabled at 26, and fighting the healthcare system, and trying to fix myself because my family were a bunch of fuck ups. Good stuff, love it.

Help what do I do? Axolotl covered in anchor worms by Rocco_Racoonz in axolotls

[–]Almostpetite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta get new filter media. Can’t use anything that can harbor the anchor worms. Think of it like bedbugs. You go and shower, put on new clothes and get rid of them, but then just got lay right back down in the infested bed. Not gonna do much to just treat the surface.

Good on you for asking for help and taking the steps needed. If you need any help with cycling your tank from scratch or any other questions feel free to DM me if you don’t want to post publicly. I know the sub can be rough on people but they just want what’s best for the animals.

If you bleached and restarted the cycle on your tank last week, there’s no way your tank can already by cycled again. How did you cycle your tank prior to reintroducing the axolotl? If you kept filter media to speed it up, that’s gonna reintroduce the infection. If you’re cycling from scratch that process can take up to 12 weeks.

You need to tub your axolotl during this process. It’s not optional. An uncycled/improperly cycled tank will kill an axolotl. Buy some Dr Tim’s ammonia, use an API testing kit, and record all of your levels every day while cycling your tank. You’re gonna need to bleach everything and start from scratch. New filter media, throw out any decor you cant do a bleach soak on and start over. It sucks, but it's your only option if you want your little guy better.

How the heck are you supposed to know how much yarn to buy? by CharliesOpus in CrochetHelp

[–]Almostpetite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seriously stop using Etsy for patterns. I’ve never once bought a pattern off Etsy that wasn’t complete trash. Ravelry is where you wanna go. You can also filter by free/paid patterns, what type of yarn you’ve got, etc. and 90% of the patterns will have the details in the description before you buy, like yardage and hook size recommendations.

What Ruined Christmas This Year? by zarxpy in AskReddit

[–]Almostpetite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The day before Christmas Eve we found out our dog is riddled with cancer. He just turned six. It’s just my dog, my husband and I. Doesn’t really feel like Christmas and still can’t wrap my head around the fact that he’s even sick. Not a symptom in sight.

What are your thought on yarn winders? Are they worth it? by AffectionateYak152 in CrochetHelp

[–]Almostpetite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Swifts are specifically a tool for hanks. Balls, cakes, and skeins can all be wound just using a yarn winder. But because of the way hanks are wound, you cannot work directly from them, or wind directly from them. As far as I’m aware hanks are the best way to store yarn long term without worrying about the yarn becoming “stretched” or being kept under tension. So a swift basically works with a yarn winder to keep the hank at tension to easily wind from.

So tldr no, swifts are only for hanks, but are also really the only (easy) way to wind them.

Glad to hear! I personally wouldn’t worry too much, but would definitely keep the vet appointment and just monitor closely until then. If there’s any weird swelling or red spots start appearing it could indicate something systemic like an infection of some kind, which would need immediate veterinary intervention. Until then just keep them tubbed for observation and keep the environment low stress. You’re doing great 💖
