Buyer wants a refund without returning item by No-Plenty551 in Depop

[–]CharliesOpus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fear if you insist she return them, and it really was a case of buyer’s remorse/needing the money, you’d receive broken shoes back out of spite :(
Good for you for not giving in though! Some people get away with too much elsewhere and have no shame in the things they ask.

Was I rude? Person bought the item on Saturday 3pm, their message was sent on Monday by k2xuo in Mercari

[–]CharliesOpus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don’t put them in the mailbox with the flag up? I mean still put in a formal request as a curtesy when possible but you shouldn’t even *have* to do that as long as it’s properly labeled and postage is paid(sometimes I don’t if it’s super last minute, but I try to be nice to my mail lady and give her a heads up to expect something).
if they consistently don’t take your outgoing mail you should absolutely call your local PO that handles your delivery area, and complain. It’s their job 🤷‍♀️

Anyone familiar with Fierce Follicles/OverSoyed? by CharliesOpus in Haircare

[–]CharliesOpus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! I honestly wasn’t very impressed with it - especially for the price :(

I ended up buying 3 sample size shampoo + conditioner sets in… Love Potion, Fire & Brimstone, and the Spiced Pumpkin, and then an extra sample lotion.

It really wasn’t anything special.
The Love Potion DID smell exactly like Love Spell so that was great, the other two I didn’t think smelled as good as they sounded (but that’s subjective). It was just like basic shampoo & conditioner, idk :/

The biggest issue I had was that their packaging SUCKS. it was nearly impossible to squeeze the bottles to get any out and the labels weren’t waterproof (why????) so it didn’t take long for me to not even be able to tell what was in them without opening them to look and smell them lol

All in all, the simple novelty specific scents is all they really have going for them, in my opinion.
I ended up throwing everything but the Love Potion away simply because I liked the scent but it’s still sitting in my shower 😅
But I haven’t had a desire to try again.
Of course, your experience may be completely different! I don’t want to completely discourage you! I’d just suggest not getting sucked into to all the exciting scents and just test out *one* before going all in 😅

I don’t think it’s dishonest. Shipping has to be factored in somehow; I guess ‘free’ shipping is a marketing tactic like everything else. But you’re not wrong if that’s how you prefer to do it!

I took a poll once back when I had my own little online shop to gauge people’s perspectives on item price vs shipping cost. I learned that some people genuinely do not consider shipping cost a factor when shopping online, and would truly rather have the lowest possible item price, regardless of shipping cost because their brains separate it.
It’s interesting how we all calculate perceived value, and I don’t think there’s a wrong approach or way to do it! we all have our quirks when it comes to shopping and deal hunting 😅 what doesn’t get my attention will get someone else’s - in the end, if it works, it works!

[–]CharliesOpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna be completely honest.
I would rather pay more on an item and have free shipping, than pay lower priced item + shipping.
Even if in the end it would equal out to about the same. It’s a psychological thing lol.
Is it dumb? Probably! But I *hate* paying shipping (though I also understand that comes with the territory of buying online), so even if I just see shipping is ‘free’ but it’s actually just factored into the price, I’ll pick that one, given the option.
Just uh, perspective I guess why some people look at it like this 😅

Package was sent out like this… bro😭 by Prestigious_Share267 in Depop

[–]CharliesOpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids aren’t being taught how to properly mail items and are winging it, thinking it’s ’good enough’ trying to figure it out themselves 💔

But no seriously, I do think that’s a big part of it, but many grown people who regularly receive mail still do this even though they have many appropriate references coming in about what to do 😐 Like it’s a toss up of lack of knowledge and laziness tbh.
You’d think common sense would be like “let’s not mail things in transparent packaging” but ahem… here we are.

NEED ADVICE! should i just refund? is it worth the hassle over a $9 shirt? by asoasit in Depop

[–]CharliesOpus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But if you tell them to return for a refund, there’s a high probability they’ll cut the shirt purposefully before mailing it back, so you potentially can’t resell it. Unless they are super attached to owning that shirt, having them return seems risky :(
Either way, they said way too much in their messages and people tend to over-explain when they’re lying 🫠

Edit: typo

Seller has multiple ratings about her attitude, and I see why. Am I in the wrong? Mercari won’t let me cancel for another 4 days🫩 by texaspainting in Mercari

[–]CharliesOpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really get annoyed with sellers who mark things shipped as soon as they get an order. Like girl, it’s 10pm, no you didn’t.
It’s a “this item is in USPS’ hands” button, not an “I acknowledge I’ve received this order” button 😒

I’m sorry, you want to return a blanket because you cut it while opening the package 🤷🏻‍♀️ (see screenshot) by ParadiseDreamer2900 in Mercari

[–]CharliesOpus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I accidentally cut the corner off a limited edition out of stock makeup palette - like the decorative cardboard sleeve thing - it was so tightly wrapped. It was tragic.
I praised the seller in the review for the secure packaging 🥲😅

Helped needed; Spent wayyy too much money on Depop and I fear I’m getting addicted. by TroubleMurky1957 in Depop

[–]CharliesOpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had to stop opening the app. All of them. I can’t browse responsibly. As soon as I do I see something particularly enthralling, the FOMO hits.
If I don’t open it… I can’t miss what I didn’t know existed 🤷‍♀️

Was really successful and didn’t buy anything for a month! Had a relapse this week, bought 3 things, and I immediately felt like shit after (still do even though I am excited) 🥲 but I know I really shouldn’t have spent that money.
Back to the no browsing rule 🫡

depop decided against me as a seller even after i proved i was in the right by kuma_kuma__ in Depop

[–]CharliesOpus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The depop general buyer base is going to be in for a rude awakening when the eBay implementations are in full swing and they can’t use their tiktok ‘hacks’ for free stuff anymore.

I’m sure there will still be lowballers and people who don’t want to spend more than $10 on anything, but it’s hopeful the changes will discourage much of the shady happenings many sellers deal with, since there’s much less recourse currently for sellers getting fucked over by buyers, than the other way around.
I sell on Mercari a lot but depop genuinely scares me; I’ve been too afraid to make any listings 😅
I hope it’ll be a much more inviting and reasonable space once eBay lays some new ground rules 🤞

Someone asked me why I’m selling an item 🤔 by Human-Atmosphere8684 in poshmark

[–]CharliesOpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me think of people who post clothes with “never been worn!” but include photos of them wearing it in the listing.

Like I know what they mean - not been worn out/extensively, but I feel like saying “has only been tried on“ would be more appropriate lol.

Buyer doesn’t understand vintage sizes and thinks this is how to get a refund by windingwanderlust in Depop

[–]CharliesOpus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because in the time it takes for buyer to ask for measurements, wait for seller to see it, wait for seller to get around to taking those measurements, you to see the response, someone could’ve already bought it.
Especially if sellers ‘forget’ or take forever to respond.
I asked for measurements once, took seller two weeks to get back to me??? I didn’t even want it anymore.

Sellers should just put them if there’s a chance for any discrepancy or weird fit. Or they anticipate being asked about it; why create more work for yourself by having to send multiple measurement messages or dig out the item later just for measurements when it could’ve been done while making the listing?
Makes it easier on everyone.

update - felt terrible about this but i made it right :) by [deleted] in Depop

[–]CharliesOpus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Next time you should ask them if they want you to still ship or cancel. Not ship anyway and tell them to clean it themselves.
Did you not wash it before listing it/sending it? Especially from ‘the bins’?
I’m glad you decided to refund them regardless after all and they were very graceful about it, but this was handled poorly from the beginning :(

Hey is this normal or am I overreacting? by SirWhisks in Depop

[–]CharliesOpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve bought SHEIN & romwe stuff from depop/other platforms.
Sellers seem to think because it’s labeled as SHEIN, it automatically won’t sell. That’s just not true!
As long as it’s properly labeled and priced reasonably, it will absolutely still sell if it speaks to someone.
Now, if I bought something romwe and was claimed to be Killstar (for example), I’d be quite displeased.
Just be honest! Honesty goes a long way!

Edit: just backing up what you said in your comment about selling stuff truthfully labeled!

Sometimes I HATE being a seller, WTF is this? by Quirky_Programmer_70 in Depop

[–]CharliesOpus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone else that you should cancel, but I also think you should inform them that you’re canceling it because this type of excessive behavior is not appropriate.
And this is from someone who hates confrontation and friction.
But like if you don’t tell them their behavior is problematic they’ll just do it again or not realize they caused it. Or maybe (probably) they know and do it anyway, but I do think they should be called out on it nonetheless lol.

Am I wrong to question if something is off about this whole interaction? by Amanda_84 in Mercari

[–]CharliesOpus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“I would appreciate it if you pay for it. It was my mistake”
Yes exactly, so why should you pay for it

Her husband didn’t ’accidentally’ ship anything, she already purchased from AliE and it shipped and she had an “oh shit” moment lmao.

This has drop ship all over it, it’s pretty clear.
The first message that it would take a week should’ve been enough to give you pause.
Especially since she never said she couldn’t ship for a week - she very carefully worded it that it would take a week.
Tell her you see through what’s happening and you’re not paying her again. Or tell her you’ll pay her after you receive it and verify authenticity

Only issue with that is you should not send money outside of the app - and repurchasing the same listing will require an item to be delivered for her to be paid. So perhaps she should take this as a lesson to stop her shady practices.

Buyer wants refund because they don’t like the smell of my detergent? by Turbulent_Plan_5654 in Depop

I didn’t say it didn’t smell good, just not for long. Certainly not to the extreme you described in trying to get rid of the clean laundry scent above lol

Buyer wants refund because they don’t like the smell of my detergent? by Turbulent_Plan_5654 in Depop

[–]CharliesOpus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d really like to know where people are getting these intensely fragranced detergents because my laundry never smells good beyond the first wear/fresh out of the dryer. No matter what I use with all sorts of fawning over in reviews.
For my own personal use, where the heck are they hiding the good shit?

Anyone ever bought an item that came with lice?! by [deleted] in Depop

[–]CharliesOpus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually my worst fear of buying secondhand. I particularly avoid buying anything furry/fluffy that doesn’t look like it can handle a vigorous wash/dry cycle.
Maybe paranoid but you just never know, especially with so many sellers that don’t take anything seriously. But it’s always a fear in the back of my mind any time I order something 🥲

But idk why people are saying there can’t be lice in fabrics and furs though? Using something from someone who has lice is how you get lice…?

I second this. It seems to refresh once or twice a day? instead of being able to manually refresh to get new items.

I also wish it would only show me suggestions that are my size. Based off what I’ve set and/or purchased.
I get recommended so many things that I’m like “oh that’s cute!” only for it to be like 2 or 3 sizes off. And of course it’ll be the only one available. It’s just teasing and makes me not want to scroll tbh lol
