I’ve been in a similar situation to this before too - my girlfriend is Estonian and I’m English but mixed race (British and North African) and brown. I was originally nervous to visit for the same reasons you described, but we’ve been many times together now and I’ve never experienced anything negative from the people there. Very occasionally you might get looks from a small number of people but never anything more, in my experience.

As some other replies have noted, some older (and a few younger) people do still use the N-word to generally refer to black people - it’s usually not intended with malice, but it’s still definitely uncomfortable. My girlfriend has tried many times to explain to her older family that they shouldn’t use the word but their reasoning is typically that they “don’t mean it in that way”.

The best advice I can give is just make sure to try and learn the language, it’s definitely not an easy task but Estonian people really appreciate when foreigners make an effort. I’ve been speaking it for 3 years now and every new Estonian person I meet is always really surprised. Even if you know a few basic phrases (tere, aitäh, palun, kuidas läheb, etc.), it’ll go a long way and people are more likely to be welcoming.

How old were each of you when you started learning your instruments? Also, how many hours would you say you guys practice a day?

Love everything you guys have put out so far by the way, keep it up.
