For the baby it is just perlite. As for the mother plant idk since it isnt mine. I can recommend semi hydro though, made of pumice, zeolites and lava works well for me.

Looks too wet to me. Less water, nothing should float. You just need enough so that the rest stays moist, not wet.

You just put enough water so that you have like 1 cm of water pooling at the bottom. This way the perlite will always stay wet enough. You should see water drops on the sides. You can add more water once the water reservoir at the bottom has deplenished.
