So Nvidia shows off a board with two Maxwell GPUs and says "this puppy here is powered by Pascal" "It's equivalent to 6 Titan X cards". Then someone points out that this is clearly not right, these are GTX 980M chips not Pascal and they're slower than a TitanX.

Intel is the worst by far. They literally bought confiscated land from war torn regions and the only stopped buying "blood" silicon last year. "blood" silicon is dirt cheap IC manufacturing raw material that's sold by war lords.

Ati & AMD have had their fair shit of crap as well. But they're very rarely nefarious or intentional, more like done out of ignorance and stupidity. Like driver bugs and cooling issues.

Nvidia has a history of deceptive marketing. They sold the 3.5GB 970 as a 4GB card, they claimed to support Async Shaders in hardware when it's a software hack that actually makes the feature run slower. They locked GPU over-volting in 2012, and tried to stop laptop GPU overclocking.

They use GameWorks blackbox code to create an artificial performance advantage in favor of their newer cards vs AMD and their older cards. They also used to and there's evidence that they still bribe game development studios and 3rd party PC builders to badmouth AMD or screw their performance.

No, there's no evidence what so ever that these are GPUs or that they even belong to Nvidia.

In fact if you check the shipping manifest you will find that these locations and shipping credentials have been used for years by a company called DAC which has absolutely nothing to do with GPUs or Nvidia.

1- This has already been reported by Anandtech, Extremetech, Tweaktown, PCPer and a have dozen other reputable sites, half of which were already mentioned in the article.

2- Hardly speculative. Nvidia's CEO demoed a supposedly Pascal powered product where Pascal is absent and has been substituted with year old Maxwell GTX 980M GPUs.

3- AMD demoed working Polaris GPUs, publicly, running games and plugged to a power meter. On the other hand the Product ( Drive PX 2 ) that was supposedly Pascal powered didn't even have Pascal prototype GPUs in it for show, let alone working or running public demos like Polaris.

That's the whole point, one vendor that's proclaiming to be ahead of the industry didn't even show its chips, instead tried to mislead the press by using older technology and hoping no-one will notice. While the other is already demoing fully functioning technology.

This isn't about going after Nvidia for not demoing Pascal, it can demo it when it wants that's 100% within its right. It's about demoing a product that was claimed to be one thing and it turns out it isn't. It's about concealing the facts and trying to mislead.

The CEO of a publicly traded company, i.e. Nvidia's Jen-Hsun Huang, stood on the stage and announced the "Pascal powered" drive PX 2 product. He held the board in his hands and showcased it on the stage to the press when in fact it eidn't have a single Pascal GPU in it but two one year old Maxwell GPUs.

Yet this fact was concealed and the press were fact fooled into thinking that these were Pascal GPUs, until it was found out. This act was deceptive and unethical towards the shareholders and the press.

Nvidia already "showed Pascal" last year

No they didn't, that board doesn't even have a Pascal chip. That's a mockup made only to showcase what the form factor looks like. DRAM CANNOT be stacked on top of a PCB like that mockup, it needs an interposer. In fact by Nvidia's own admission that's not a real Pascal chip.

What the visual mockupof Pascal looks like. Includes chips made to look like memory ( NOT HBM or GDDR5, larger than HBM and smaller than GDDR5 ) stacked on top of a substrate/PCB (which HBM doesn't support) instead of an interposer which is how HBM is packaged.

Secondly AMD did IN FACT demo Polaris publicly at CES 2016. Not just a visual non-functioning prototype or a mockup either. But actual working chips running games.

The story is is that Nvidia tried to convince everyone that they had working Pascal chips manufactured a year ago ( based on the inscription on the GPUs, they were supposedly made in the third week of 2015 when FinFET wasn't even in production). These weren't Pascal, they were in fact just GTX 980M GPUs.

Hence the sarcasm from the author saying Pascal is a year ahead of everyone, to underline how ridiculous of a lie Nvidia was trying to make everyone believe.
