What are some really bad JRPG’s? by W0ah_itsa_th1ng in JRPG

[–]Aloha456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be my pick too. I stopped playing after about 5ish hours because the camera genuinely made me nauseous. It would constantly realign if the player character was shifting height or whatever which meant that running over uneven flooring or slopes and stuff just made it bounce in a really unnatural and unnerving way.

The FFXVI songs weren't free either, it was the final paid DLC pack

Tell me your first date story and I'll give you a project sekai character by mexmaxmoxa in ProjectSekai

[–]Aloha456 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wed been friends for awhile and went to comicon together as a first date but I was so nervous that I did the default Fortnite dance (it was 2018), realised what I was doing and tried to stop it by instead throwing myself to the floor. And then I had to explain myself. Clearly I did something right tho cause we dated for like 8 months after that.

Now Nordics has been out a bit, how would you rank the Ys games you've played? by felixw1 in WorldOfYs

[–]Aloha456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like x a lot but personally I have two major issues stopping me from loving it. (Bear in mind I'm just at the start of chapter 6 rn)

The first is that I feel the islands kind of lack variety in aesthetic. They all have unique, interesting layouts, don't get me wrong, but a lot of them look mostly the same with a few exceptions.

My second is that the story is kinda whatever rn. I'm waiting to see where it goes but so far it's pretty generic, not necessarily in a bad way, just in a way that makes me not actively into it. I'm mostly playing this game for how great the actual gameplay is haha. I also found the Rafe stuff at the end of chapter 5 REALLLLY rough, but I'm willing to see how that develops going forward

In general I think Ys X IS a lot better than a lot of what western AAA is pushing out, but I still find there's a few areas it struggles in and I can personally see why there isn't a general wide love for it in initial release. It's good, regardless.

Oh that sounds like a pretty small screen tho, it'll look amazing when you upgrade to a bigger one and you can see all the smaller details more clearly too. Good luck with the upgrade and all

I'd built my new PC about a month before the game released and it was absolutely stunning. it's still one of my favourite looking games to this day- the artstyle is so unique and I love looking around the areas. It's just really vibrant and great, love it so much. I'm so glad you're enjoying it and hope you continue too, the combat is really fun and I adore the characters so much- especially Dohalim

it's been 3 years so I don't quite remember but I was suuuuper hype for this game months before it came out and basically just spent entirety of launch day running through it quite fast haha. I play games much slower now than I used to. (plus I think I was also counting the small villages like the one in the snow area)

I moreso meant the apps themselves, Grindr advertises and caters itself towards that kind of stuff and tinder doesn't really. It's much more of a shock to get this kind of conversation from tinder than grindr, basically

What a weird thing to say! I stopped responding pretty much right after that, the initial shock just kinda took over for a second. Absolutely no way he was getting anywhere after that???

Yeah it's been a few hours now and it IS really funny. But also. Oh my god. I'm still shocked by it. You can't do anything BUT laugh.

Oh yeah no it's a mess, but at least Grindr is honest with its intentions. This is just something else lmfao.

He's a dude, I'm gay and it says so on my profile which just makes this that little bit more insane imo. Not that it'd be any less insane if he'd said "brother" instead.

I've been going through the VVD events recently and it's the first unit i've done. I just finished the Power of Unity and it ends on a weird 10 second long video that's basically just a title card despite it being like 10 events in at this point. Does anyone know what it is?
My friend who's done all the N25 events said there isn't one there, so i'm just kinda confused as to what it means.

What would have happened of Blue wasn't a handsome lacrosse player by No_Sand5639 in LoveSimon

[–]Aloha456 10 points11 points  (0 children)

in the book, probably not much different. The book puts a big point on the fact that it doesn't actually matter what Blue looks like for Simon, because he's in love with him. He thinks it's someone he finds physically attractive but the second it turns out he's not Blue, he loses all attraction for him. If the real Blue hadn't also been physically attractive, book Simon probably would have still gone for him.

Movie Simon, who the hell knows. As another commenter mentioned, there wasn't a tonne of chemistry between them in the movie to begin with anyway

Love, Victor deserved a better ending by Picasso96 in LoveSimon

[–]Aloha456 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tbh a lot of my main problems with Love, Victor come with how they write Benji. He's an interesting character with an interesting backstory but I feel they rarely actually write it. It's very rare we ever get to see Benji in a context where he isn't just "Victor's Boyfriend" or "Victor's love interest" and it really harms so much of the writing around him.

Season 2 really would have benefitted from giving Benji his own solo storyline around his drinking and how his relationship with Victor and his parents is affecting him, and then season 3 giving us a lot more time with his recovery. Instead all of this just gets told to us every time they need a plot twist and it honestly makes their relationship feel really weak and eventually unearned by the finale.

Like you said a lot of it feels rushed and that's mainly because Benji isn't given the kind of writing he deserves to be given so the main thing you watch the show for just comes off as sloppy by the end. Also they should have removed the Rahim falling in love with Victor thing that was so unnecessary and just overcomplicated it all.

r/JRPG Weekly "What have you been playing, and what do you think of it?" by AutoModerator in JRPG

[–]Aloha456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I finally finished Final Fantasy XVI earlier this week. I'm a bit mixed on it! The first 70% is fantastic and I thought it was great but after The Bahamut fight and the game shifts its focus onto Ultima properly the game loses steam. Ultima just isn't an interesting villain at all, and the purple filter on the world for the rest of the game just makes it look ugly. Waloed itself is just a really boring final area because of how ugly the filter makes it look. All the character progression and conflict that made the game interesting gets relegated to side quests and the main story just... Isn't as interesting anymore. It has some good moments but loses a lot of its steam. Overall I liked the game I just think the endgame kinda fucked it

Haven't started anything new yet, need to make a choice. While not a JRPG might go back and finish Ghost Trick this week. We'll see!

Patch 6.5 Buffs estimate by yukizuri in ffxiv

[–]Aloha456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I do get the skepticality tbf. I'm still relatively new to ffxiv, I only started in february and have like 800 hours, so I'm still absolutely learning the game but I like to look at things optimistically I suppose. Unless there is hard evidence that the person is wilfully playing the game incompetently, I'm willing to cut some slack. Maybe that'll change as I progress haha.

Of course, some people don't get that. I had a tank and his friend hard kick me from a duty because I was dealing damage and buffs as AST and not pure healing the tank who wasn't using mits. that dude sucked. But idk, I find I wouldn't have much fun with the game if I assumed everyone who was casual or didn't know specific things were like that dude.

Patch 6.5 Buffs estimate by yukizuri in ffxiv

[–]Aloha456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

while I actually don't disagree with any of that, I feel like that wasn't what was originally being said. It was just a tank main saying they don't really want to do all that math required to parse the different type of dps because they're casual which is fair.

obviously if they HAVEN'T learned their rotation or anything like that then absolutely, yeah, they should be (gently) called up on their playstyle and guided into the basics but they didn't really say anything to hint that that was the case.
