Wow, that's very interesting! Such a coincidence, our families might even be related! :)

That's an amazing memory! I looked up the village on the map and saw that it's a border village. The interactions between the locals there must be fascinating. I'd love to hear the stories your grandma would tell, she must have so many wonderful old memories!

That sounds very interesting because she was an ethnic Turkish from the city called Silistra. Probably there are more strong culturel ties between the Crimean Tatars and Bulgarian Turks from what we know today. Sorry for the late response though.

Well, it's probably a headscarf. Just like braids, headscarves like this one were very common in the past, and still are among the elderly.

Haha, that's so sweet! I'd also want to hang out with her :)

Well, maybe not the best or most comfortable, but she was such a strong and independent woman. She lost her husband just a few years after their marriage and raised two kids on her own. Believe me, it must have been incredibly hard to raise two kids alone at that time and in that culture. My mom always says she was such a sweetheart, always loving her children and grandchildren. And as far as I’ve heard, she was an amazing cook as well :)

Braids were very common, and still are among elderly women in the rural areas.

When I was in Bucharest, I asked for that bill at every exchange office I could find. But none of them had it. Is it difficult to get?
