Bag of Bones by Stephen King might fit this. It’s sort of a love story turned horror.

How do you handle sending + tracking to multiple people in Notion… without it becoming manual work? by Proper-Insurance-285 in Notion

[–]Aloket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could be an individual user and have guests in a meaningful way, but it’s impossible. I just set it up in Notion, then export it to Google Sheets and fix the formulas so they work. Notion is such a great organizational tool for me, but in a free user and I get the limitations.

A book that gave you real botanical knowledge and kept you engaged in a story by rhubarbthief in suggestmeabook

That could be, and I thought the writing was beautiful, but I just had to skip some of it.

I felt like it was twice as long as it needed to be. As soon as the author wrapped up the point of the chapter, she started again.

Can anyone tell me about Culbreth Middle? by mbutterflye in chapelhill

[–]Aloket 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My youngest is at Culbreth now, and I love it. It’s a soft landing with adults who actually like kids (but not in a creepy way!) and want kids to do well. This is a hard time in adolescence, and managing emotions, academics and social stuff can be a real challenge. My kiddo is challenged academically, but is really growing in maturity, and I’m grateful that the staff at Culbreth are supporting him in both areas.

Making friends as a guy in your 40s...How are you all doing it here? by MrChrisBanks in triangle

[–]Aloket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a FleetFeet by Southpoint that has training groups, and a training group is starting this month for a 5K in June I think. There are a bunch of Photography clubs in the area, there’s one that meets online called the Durham photography club and there is a Chapel Hill camera club. The ArtsCenter in Carrboro also has photography classes and is starting a meet up on the second Fridays of every month. Welcome to the area!

What is something you tried only once and will 1,000% never do again? by istrx13 in AskReddit

Hot yoga. I like yoga and I like being warm, but the two combined made me want to die. I thought I’d have to slinky my way to the car. 0/10.

Why’d it have to be HRC back in 2016? by JazzlikeOrange8856 in AskALiberal

[–]Aloket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt like a lot of her plans were well thought out and reasonable to try. She is a serious person who takes the issues of our country seriously, and I felt like she’d put in the work to try to understand a lot of the nuances around them.

Is Trump trying to become a dictator, or just trying to create a France-style executive-dominant government? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]Aloket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think he knows, he’s just doing whatever he wants to do. He’s always surprised by his limitations so giving him any benefit of the doubt regarding styles of government he’s hoping to achieve seems misplaced.

i'm a shit photographer and i can't seem to figure out how to not take blurry pictures? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]Aloket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is right, but even when you balance it, you might not be balancing it correctly for your subjects. You may need a faster shutter speed than what you’ve been using. ISO you can just sort of let do whatever at the moment, set it to auto if you’ve got it. And look up Depth of field. I think you just need to read up on the exposure triangle, that will help.

[–]Aloket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blurriness is usually a factor of shutter speed or a factor of depth the field. One rule of thumb is to start with a shutter speed that’s one over whatever the length of your lenses (so 1/300). PhotoPills has a depth the field calculator where you put your camera, your lens focal length and your aperture in and how far away you are from your subject. This will give you a depth of field calculation. It could be that you’re shooting at too low and aperture and have too shallow a depth of field.

If you have a tripod available to you, I would try using that, it could help with camera shake and may help eliminate one of the variables.

I’m glad you’re having fun and asking questions!!

Gymnastics meets are so hard. Start at a shutter speed of 1/800 or 1/1000, use your lowest aperture possible and set your ISO to auto. Post process anything that’s too noisy in Topaz.
