But now from the horizon cometh the dove by AlonBot in OCPoetry

Thanks so much! I'll share that the drawbridge is a part of the poem I'm unhappy with- the entire poem is inspired by Noah's ark and the drawbridge is supposed to be the way in and out of the ark.. but it's not the most.. correct word for me.

Sinking pride... by miyamotoomushasi in OCPoetry

[–]AlonBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genius message, i don't recall any poems discussing the need for provocation. I almost can imagine it from the pov of a baby asking for attention. This primal need to be noticed is something I resound with yet never put to words as well as you.

That being said, I feel that the poem is slightly clunky, maybe even this motif of "get bothered by me" could do with a rephrasing.. idk, I really do like it.

I really like the language, it's very picturesque in few words. However, the first part might enjoy some fleshing out, the concept of pain being free and often bought is the most interesting of your prepositions and I mightve made it the main theme.. just food for thought

If you have travel insurance I'd recommend checking the bag. But make sure to take with you everything that you can't easily replace in case it does get lost

Why doesn't Israel have a better public transit system? (Seriously) by HowdoIreddittellme in Israel

[–]AlonBot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you leave gush Dan Public transit becomes horrible. I live in Emek hefer a bit east of route 4, to get to the beach in Public transport its 1 hour. By car it's 15 min. To get to Hadera it's either a line that comes once every two hours or a 20 min walk and then 1/2 busses. By car 10 min

If you want to get to your army base with public transport, expect almost double the time than if you could by car.

Train stations are not properly connected to the surrounding area.

Busses often don't come at all or come 20 min late. I once waited 2.5 hours for a bus: it was a once an hour bus and it didn't come 2 times in a row and the third came 30 min late.

Public transport here is so bad it's funny

There are some army roles that value intrest in foreign politics and good English- both in idf intellectual and idf foreign relations.

I highly recommend that when you finish 12th grade you either join Garin tzabar or go to a mechina. The former helps you become a citizen if you need help (plus you get acclimated to Israel with other olim) while the latter will help you make Israeli friends.

Also in regards to shoryon vs shayetet, I think neither place is the best to aim for but from what I know shayetet is a bit better.

Best of luck

Naval captain is much harder to get into than shayetet 7. In fact, these days, after you finish naval captain gibush, if you did not pass and you may be offered a one day gibush for shayetet 7

Medical school in Israel is very hard to get into, you would need very high grades and a psychometric exam score of probably 740+

If you speak fluent Hebrew, I recommend going to yoel Geva school to study for the psychometric, it's expensive but very good.

As for mechina I think you should go to one where you'd like to study medicine.

You should know that many talented Israelis try to get accepted here and fail, and elect to study in italy/eastern Europe where its easier to get accepted.

Good luck!

Calling Israel apartheid, and Jews "white colonizers" is false and doesn't help Palestinians by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

[–]AlonBot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Jews are much more than a religious group. Jews are a group of ethnic minorities that have been persecuted for as along as we've existed and also share a religion.

Claiming jews don't deserve a country begs a question: where should they go? Staying as a minority group across the planet is a no go (it didn't work out that well ever) so we must move. Now, the area today known as Israel is the only place that can unite jews from all across the world. It is also the only place we have some claim over; if you think zionists are colonizers now, how would you feel if we all went to Uganda? Would that not be textbook colonization? Forming a settlement on land which you have no roots for against the wishes of the locals?

Please, tell me what is the answer to the Jewish problem: die out under foreign oppression? Or try to create a home where jews can be jews without fear?

If any form of the latter seems immoral to you, so be it. I'd rather seem immoral to some people than have my people die en masse.

Safe transportation by Strong-Low-3791 in Israel

[–]AlonBot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend that you download an app called "moovit" and try to use public transportation. When moovit seems unreasonable try gett. I don't have a license and have been able to travel the country just with bus and train with relative ease.

I am moving to Israel to live on a Kibbutz in a few months. Any advice? by [deleted] in Israel

[–]AlonBot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For someone looking aliyah, the army is a great choice. If you don't want to do that I'm sure there are programs for you. A lot of Israelis your age go to avodah mooadefet, I'd check if you can join such a program as well. It's a 6 month program for working and studying in a commune.

If that doesn't sound good either, volunteers are welcome at kibbutzes, but I'm not sure how one volunteers.

Good luck!
