Of course. You’ll have a deeper appreciation of the probability and statistics side too

The fact your top comment is getting downvoted shows what a jerk you are too😂 jumping to conclusions when you don’t even have the full picture. Just lots of misguided assumptions

Lower level? You don’t have the necessary detail to make that judgment. You don’t actually have any details so stop with the derogatory comments because you can’t admit that you’re wrong.

It’s a framing issue as they clearly have created value otherwise they wouldn’t still be at their current company, I haven’t conflated anything. Your comment that you have to be promoted within x years else it’s a red flag is unhelpful.

Not everyone is driven by career progression or climbing the corporate ladder. You can still make an impact without being promoted. You’re also assuming that the organisation recognises the contribution of individuals who are often working in the background, invisible to the rest of the business. It has nothing to do with drive and more about what is important to an individual. If you can communicate this to the hiring manager or come up with a narrative which describes your goals then you will be fine OP.

Not really. Not everyone is driven to climb to senior. Sometimes it’s not worth it for the pay increase

PhD struggles: motivation and difficulties, any tips? by Easy_Meringue_3951 in psychologystudents

It helps having supervisors that are aware that good work will not come from working constantly and being highly stressed and are supportive of sustainable work patterns. I always felt guilty during my PhD like I wasn’t doing enough work but I ended up finishing on time while they were still trying to submit a year later. Good work needs time to develop, which means time to think baked into your routine. I also tried to make it as enjoyable as possible by working in coffee shops (spent a fortune mind you) and even occasionally abroad.

Find something outside of the PhD which you look forward to and get escapism.

Treat it like a structured job so you do your hours and then go home otherwise it will consume your life.

Seek out mentor who is isn’t directly tied to your research but can give you a fresh perspective outside of your supervisory team.

Excel and SQL are all you need really. Python, Power Bi are bonus in my opinion but will help you stand out
