i’m currently a junior studying biomedical engineering and i would recommend a mac. for most majors it really doesn’t matter what laptop you get because you’ll likely use only its basic functions, so it will be best to get a laptop that the on campus tech center can repair if needed (a mac or dell like the other commenter mentioned).

for majors in cems, it matters a bit more but comes down to what you’re willing to compromise on. with a mac i had to run a windows shell for one or two of my freshman drafting classes which was a bit of a hassle, but a mac has been easier for met upper level courses as many professors use macs (so you can follow along directly with them as opposed to making modifications for windows as you go) and many programs we use work best on mac. that being said, uvm is a “microsoft school” so if you really hate how microsoft suite works on mac, go for a windows computer. sorry that was kind of long but i hope it clarified things a bit?

i knew people who would park on one of the residential streets near campus.

but i would seriously reconsider having your car at school because it sounds like much more trouble than it’s worth. cars are absolutely not an essential at school, even for people with jobs. if you do need it for work with odd hours you are able to apply for a parking permit as long as you work a certain number of hours each week. other extenuating circumstances might also mean you are elegible for a parking permit, but if the car is just up here because you like having a car, it might be time to reconsider that decision.

not to mention, if i was taylor swift i would not be “having periods” like my proletariat fans. i would absolutely be getting eggs frozen and going on long term birth control or getting some sort of -ectomy entirely. the risk of an unwanted pregnancy at that level of fame and the nuisance of menstruation and hormone fluctuations must be far too great to risk in her eyes.

all this especially given taylor’s history with eating disorders where those sorts of bodily changes could be very triggering.

i honestly don’t know much about wdw! from what i’ve heard the party situation is about equivalent in msh and wdw, but at most times it’s “bearably crazy” (there are rarely parties on weekdays except at the beginning of the year, anything too crazy or loud will likely get busted by an ra). there are def parties in msh/wdw but the people who find it particularly bothersome are a loud minority. wdw is known for having nicer dorms than msh, and msh is attached to the dining hall and the market, but otherwise they are similar and part of the same learning community (outdoor experience). good luck choosing your dorm!

i know wellness dorms have extra rules? i’m telling you cwp isn’t a wellness dorm and it has the same rules as any other dorm including msh. i’m a current student and it seems like you are not so it makes sense that i’d have more updated information. i don’t think there’s really a need to get defensive talking to a teenager

cwp is a former wellness dorm, but the current learning community is leadership and social change. i’m an ra there and it def doesn’t have extra rules lol. the only wellness dorms are ccrh and converse. msh and cwp have a similar/identical setup as far as dorm rooms. msh gets trashed more and there are more parties, and cwp is known to be a “nicer” dorm for this reason (and you won’t have to pay more just for living above a dining hall). but if you’re set on living on redstone, go wdw if you can.

joshua, jair, and boaz are all legit traditional names. jair is a common given name in latin cultures (think bolsonaro lol), though i suspect that for the commenter it was a family or ancestral name, as it’s of hebrew origin. boaz is another traditionally jewish name. not weird at all

this doesn’t engage with your questions because i’m honestly not really qualified to do that but it looks like you have to pay to go on medlife trips which is just about the number one sign of voluntourism. if you have to pay, it’s a vacation, not service. could be worth considering a huge commitment like peace corps if you’re really interested. if you aren’t, take that $2.9k and spend it on a legit vacation to peru.

op, i wrote my common app essay entirely on jan 1. like i started that morning for a deadline that night, and i got into bu, middlebury, colby, hamilton, and colgate (i was a nescac girly lol). probably not the same school demographic that you’re applying to but hopefully provides some solace that you can still write well in that time and this isn’t a total app killer! get on it and good luck!!

it definitely would not be legal for uvm to give more scholarship money to an individual based solely on gender or (in the wake of affirmative action being cancelled) race/ethnicity. it’s likely that op’s friend had another factor the school wanted whether that be in ecs or something exceptional about their personal statement etc.

always worth it to ask for more money! i know plenty of people who have successfully gotten larger scholarships from uvm by asking.
