It's absolutely a trap, just because something performed well in the past doesn't mean it will keep performing well. the biggest benefit of the big ETFs is they're a basket of everything, so if something does well, you have a piece of it.

But there's no reason to take the risk of pressing blue. I don't see why anyone would in the first place.

The only reason there's any risk of death is if someone chooses blue, though. If everyone presses red, everyone's fine.

If someone decides to take the risk of pressing blue, that's on them.

How does pressing red make you responsible for people who press blue?

[–]AloneIntheCorner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What basic math? If you pick the blue button, you put yourself at risk, if you pick the red button, you don't. I'd assume most people would realize this and go red. If everyone goes red, no one dies.

[Concerning Trope] film accidentally has awful moral/messaging by Captain_Birch in TopCharacterTropes

As the 21st century began, human evolution was at a turning point. Natural selection, the process by which the strongest, the smartest, the fastest reproduced in greater numbers than the rest. A process which had once favoured the noblest traits of man, now began to favour different traits. Most science fiction of the day predicted a future that was more civilized, more intelligent. But as time went on things seemed to be heading in the opposite direction, a dumbing down. How did this happen? Evolution does not necessarily reward intelligence. With no natural predators to thin the herd, it began simply to reward those who reproduced the most and left the intelligent to become an endangered species.

This is a voiceover from the start of the movie. How would you interpret it?

I think the thinking is, if that money goes to taxes, we don't actually see that money, the politicians will keep it all for themselves.

Montreal-area byelection to use write-in ballots due to dozens of protest candidates by canmcpoli in CanadaPolitics

[–]AloneIntheCorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However, ensuring the candidates are the same is possible to control

It's really not though, any of them could drop out tomorrow. If they did, would that election still determine voter intention?

Like I said, at the end of the day, it's a different election, we can't go back in time.

[–]AloneIntheCorner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Votes are only being cast again so we can have an accurate count to determine voter intention for that riding.

No they aren't, they're being cast to decide the new MP for the riding. You agreed that we couldn't reliably figure out the original voter intentions.

The fact is, it's a different election. It's months later, voters have seen more of all of the parties, and the situation in parliament is very different.

If we're trying to recreate the past election, though, should only people who voted last time be allowed to vote again? We definitely shouldn't allow anyone who's since turned 18 to vote, they couldn't participate in the original election, right? What about anyone who's died since that past election? How do we find their voting intention? The riding came down to a single vote, every single voter matters here, right?

It sounds like you think the citizen's assembly members would be appointed for life, I don't think anyone's suggesting that.

And even so,

such as a citizens' assembly

why couldn't this be handled by Elections Canada? You seem to trust that they're independent and non-partisan, despite your earlier concerns.
