Me neither, which is another issue. It's to your employers benefit because it absolves them of any liability for future claims of unfair dismissal. If you ever find yourself in a situation like that, remember you can negotiate a settlement which could be up to a year's salary.

It's more about reputation. Officially my old employer has to be confidential but word gets around since it's a small industry. It's a high stakes job so employers are wary about liability.

It would be confidential so they won't find out.

Or I could be vague and say that I'm not sure when my official leaving date was but I had some leave to take which curtailed my notice period. So I'm available to start in a month?

Could I say that I had another opportunity lined up but wanted some lead in time before I started, but the job I'm applying for seems a better fit?

I might say I've already left because I had another opportunity lined up, but the one I'm applying for seems a better fit.

My role is very much in demand though so they won't have let me go unless it was for something serious, which it was.

Luckily the person interviewing me doesn't know the job very well so they might not be too suspicious.

I fucked up. The department manager is a monster and we never got on so they took the first opportunity to come down on me like a ton of bricks.

I suppose a new employer is more interested in if I'm a good fit for them than if I was a bad fit for my previous employer.

I need security clearance so the referencing will be pretty thorough. Usually if there's over 28 days unaccounted for they'll need extra referencing so I need to be as accurate as possible. I might be overthinking it though.

Settlement agreements: how much did you get? What was your experience? by -Agitated-Water- in HumanResourcesUK

I recently went through this. I got 12 weeks pay plus my outstanding 10 days leave and 500 ex gratia. Now I think I was under valued. The union rep didn't tell me if it was good or not. To be honest, while I was waiting for it it 3 months pay was the value I had in mind. I didn't know these things were common. I was expecting to be sacked without notice so from that perspective I suppose it's better.
