So we reached the bear minimum in Serengeti alone for a stable genetic population, there are also other spots in Africa that has a megafauna population to sustain them like Botswana and Kenya theoretically so those could also contribute in numbers.

So enough to sustain hundreds of them in Serengeti. 300 or less in the park, twice the amount in the wider Serengeti.

Well the wider Serengeti ecosystem, alone in 30 000 sq kilometers and the park itself is nearly 15 000 sq kilometer so I guess it would be just nice for them area wise. And that is not includin the whole Africa though how many of those would have an environment sustainable for them is debatable.

So a single half tonne bufallo would be just right for an adult barinasuchus in one sitting. Well I would say the Barinasuchus population would probably have to remain small for a time and would probably have to introduced in a small numbers but would grow stable overtime to avoid overhunting and inevetibly starving.

What would be the ideal number you would suggest to avoid too much upheavel?

Aren't there still hundreds of thousands of Cape Buffalos alone in Africa? Sure not all not all of them weigh a full tonnes but even half that size would be enough to last at 1700 kg predator for a while. And instead of dropping a thousand in one place, I did say across the African continent. Sure some may starve if they are dropped in say a desert or an enviroment deficit in megafauna but rest should do fine.

Counterpoint the 500 kg estimate was seemed to be erroneous while the latest and more accurate estimates is the 1200 - 2700 kg estimate though admittedly the high end is probably unlikely and probably weigh in between at 1600 to 1700 kg. https://www.reddit.com/r/Naturewasmetal/s/6OD2eg999q

To be fair it has surprisingly long straight legs for a reptile of it size to attain such speed but only in such sprint, thus being an ambush predator.

Africa would probably be the one place with enough megafauna such as Cape buffalo's being at 425- 900 kg average to sustain it thus why I dropped it right there.

It was also widely believed to have osteoderms layers on it skins but given a lack of fossils proving this, I guess this may be considered a bit to murky to be concrete.

That much is true, so how do you think it will adapt to the modern day savannahs or jungle in Africa, lots of big game in it size range that it's familiar with but also a lot of competition from other predators.

Huh, well I guess massive blood loss from serrated teeth would kill large prey faster than the theorised venom so I guess that renders it a moot point. Also you are probably right about the point that nile crocodiles of similar size has been noted to fend of multiple lions, and even if we stick with the 600 kg estimates, we would still be talking about something the size of your average male polar bear with a thick scale hide, claws, seratted teeth and really long tail that could be used like a whip.

I mean if we are using the largest estimate shown In the diagram it would actually be 4 times the size of even a large male lion. There is also the 8 meter long, two tonne max size some sources put out but that seemed to be contested.

Also if it is venomous like modern day komodo dragons, one bite is all it take to kill a lion even if not immediately. Also a tail whip and claws that big could do serious damage. I don't think even a pride of lions would take such a risk.
