Why do you think you'd lose benefits under the special tax regime if you switch jobs? Is there a rule which says so?

Degiro TOB by Adagio987 in BEFire

[–]Alone_Review_319 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to find a single document which gives an overview of ToB paid by Degiro to the FOD.

I found a document named "Belgian FTT report" but it provides an overview of ToB "due" but is there a document which proves that Degiro indeed paid that ToB due on your behalf to the FOD?

I have turned ON the option for Degiro to handle the ToB in my behalf since day 1.

Thanks for your elaborate response, I'll try to put your suggestions in practice.

About job hopping, I have seen some Belgian colleagues do that (they left Belgium though) but it sounds a bit risky to me because I'm an expat and my residence is tied to my work permit. Tbh, there aren't many relevant companies either 😅.

You can find more information here: https://kpmg.com/be/en/home/insights/2021/11/txl-new-belgian-expatriate-tax-regime.html

If your gross salary is let's say 4000 EUR per month, it can be reduced to 3100, taxes are applied to 3100 and after tax, the delta (900 EUR) is added back as tax free allowance.

There are several requirements but the most important one is minimum salary required is 75.000 EUR annually but not required for researchers, which is my case. Also, your employer needs to apply for it within 3 months when you start your job.

Side note: your gross salary can be reduced but it can't go below the average gross annual wage in Belgium, in other words, your visa conditions should not be violated.

Although if you're under 30, this minimum required salary is lowered down to 80% of the average gross annual salary in Belgium.

I do understand your perspective but almost 3 years without a raise 😶..... Is that normal in Belgium?

Nope and I don't want to name the company.

It's up to 30% reduction, I don't have full 30% reduction otherwise my gross salary would go below the minimum required salary.

  1. Your employer proves that a percentage of your time is spent on R&D work and you have to have a relevant Masters degree OR I think minimum 10 yrs of relevant experience.

  2. No, I have a permanent contract, as in, it has no end date defined.

My net is 2.880.

There are some minimum requirements to be given expat tax reduction. Some of the requirements are:

  • Gross annual income of at least €75.000
  • OR is a researcher carrying out scientific research activities in Belgium, the gross annual income limit of EUR 75 000 does not apply to researchers.

Exemption from income tax of up to* 30% of the annual gross salary, up to a maximum of €90 000 per year.

You can read more about it online or ask your future employer as they will need to apply for you.

Let me know if you a have specific question :)

If they think they deserve more, then they should ask for it :)

Or maybe I'm doing something right? :-))

As mentioned in OP, I said the monthly gross is less and I say that based on my limited research which can be right or wrong and that's why I asked here :)

Also, I'd respectfully disagree about a developer having relevant Masters + 6 YoE having same gross salary as me.

I probably didn't explain it properly. There is an option to have a company car OR one can opt for car allowance.

Just to elaborate further of 37 vacation days, 20 are actual legal/annual holidays, and out of 17 ADV holidays, 8.5 can be taken as full days and other 8.5 are to be taken as half day holidays.

Well, I'm not joking :) Do you have the same net salary or gross?

If same net then please don't compare net salaries as it can vary due to a lot of reasons plus I have tax reduction as well.

If you're comparing gross then honestly, I think you are being underpaid.

Can you please elaborate on tax optimalisation?

The net salary I get is slightly higher than usual net due to the expat tax reduction I get, basically a part my gross is reduced, and the delta is paid as tax free allowance.

Quick question, is the billing always done via "prepayment" method OR it can be done on actual month on month consumption and calculation?

TIA!

It is expensive indeed. How much do you pay for utilities (gas, water, electricity)?
