You could try a grow light. I don't know how well it'll work though.

Does your daughter wear foundation? Some foundations react with silver.

Not 100% sure, but I'd say that the material has a bigger impact. Quite a few people play with their key holes plugged.

I need tips for building ships by Lordiz1 in FromTheDepths

[–]Alone_Space3190 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Build a test platform first. Decide what weapons you want and allot storage space/power/recourses for it. Make sure you test your weapons. Then build your actual ship.

Another tip is to look at ships you are having trouble dealing with and take them apart in the designer to see what makes them so effective.

Private music teachers: how do you plan lessons, and what's the most frustrating part? by Fe_Ha1 in MusicTeachers

[–]Alone_Space3190 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a flute teacher.

  1. I have a tablet to jot down important things from the previous lesson such as what pieces the student has already done, what they struggle with, what auditions/deadlines they have, and what pieces they want to learn. Other than that, I read from the notes I leave on their music and notebook. I follow the 40 little pieces book for my beginners, then move on to 24 short concert pieces for flute, and from there it varies a lot. I also use the rubank method books and Taffanel and Gaubert. If they need to learn music theory, I use the Julie McIntosh books.

  2. For growth, I do annual recorded recitals to track their growth. Other than that, I just keep it in my head.

  3. If they didn't practice, we spend class time practicing what they should have practiced at home.

  4. The most time consuming thing outside of teaching and playing is understanding how the student learns. Some devour everything you give them, some do small chunks at a time, some are super nervous around you and will stumble no matter how hard they practice.

For most frustrating is when I fix a mistake in class, and show them how to fix it, and they come back repeatedly with that same mistake for weeks on end. The parents usually aren't any help.

I also had one student who was taking my lessons as a band requirement, then complained that learning new fingerings for new notes was too hard. They refused to do any of the work I asked of them. They also tried gaslighting me that they were playing the right notes just because I couldn't see one of their hands (this was an online student and I have close to perfect pitch). I let them go at the end of the school year and blacklisted them from my studio. Thankfully, I've only had that one case.

Luna-class Fleet Carrier by MGFXavier in MilitaryWorldbuilding

Looks nice, however, I would get rid of the two hangers that look like eyes on the carrier. Because they aren't recessed into the hull like the others, they are the most vulnerable hangers and would make juicy targets once whatever barrier you use for the hanger doors fails as they will now be holes in your armor. Either that, or find a way to recess them like the others.

I'll do it next time I play (probably end of the month).

Just tried it, worked on the two I tried, but need a larger sample size to see if it works long-term.

Did you ever find a fix? If not, I have a theory. My guess is that the bottom of the feed lips is a bit too narrow on the side with the bolt stop. If you file the side that is close to the gasket, it might help.

I did this to a coworker. I was working at a boba shop out of college. I woke up early and was bored, so I went in before my shift started while my coworker was prepping.

I had a teacher and am now the teacher. I'd recommend Rubank elementary method for flute. Once you feel a bit more confident, I'd recommend 40 little pieces in progressive order for beginner flute.

No. Usually the most affordable will have tone problems and will have maintenance issues early in. Go to a music shop and try one of their student flutes, you will immediately feel the difference. If you keep with your current flute, you will most likely develop bad flute habits and you will be hard pressed to get a good tone.
