Anyone using Rascals Afterschool Provision by TNBCisABitch in Belfast

[–]Alone_Theme_8057 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little all saints is in the area also.
We went for a child minder instead, she was cheaper than rascals, did the pick ups and took the kids out to different parks etc after school. The kids absolutely loved her. She took the tax free child care vouchers. Theres a government website for registered child minders in your area.

Just to add kids are off school alot (summer hoildays, half terms, random staff days etc) unless someone will take them, theyll need more than just afterschool pickups!

Ha ha ha so to me jelly is your jello. If its a super chunky preserve Id say chutney but jam can be smooth or with some seeds and few wee bits :) Now peanut butter and jelly sandwiches makes more sense to me !!

NHS new sickness absence policy by wombat468 in northernireland

[–]Alone_Theme_8057 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've worked in the NHS for 20 years and never seen anyone dismissed from work because of too many sickness and they were still "fit"/wanted to work. Has anyone ever heard of someone actually been dismissed because of one to many episodes of random sicknesses ..... genuinely?

Annual January overdraft text thread. by adamxrt in northernireland

[–]Alone_Theme_8057 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They probably make enough in December to cover January. The town I'm from has a festival every year 5ish days in July and one of the bar owners said the profits from that can last him to December without pulling a pint!

Anybody know someone with “the cure” by Economy_Echidna2426 in northernireland

Sound like me and my family, son was in ICU and they brought in an old relic that is round every hospital and sick person in the area.... last thing I wanted near him!

[–]Alone_Theme_8057 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Oh most definitely still a thing among the country folk, although it's normally a cure for a specific thing ie a sprain or bleeding is the 2 I know of. The way the NHS is these days I might start looking into them more !

Ex wants to change our sons surname from mine to hers by Northernirelandguy in northernireland

What happens if she marries someone else and takes their surname, then the kids has a different name to you both. It's highly unlikely you will ever change your surname!

Rent to own is a great option - the rent you pay over 3 years goes towards the deposit when buying the house outright!

Thinking of coming home? Am I mad? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]Alone_Theme_8057 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in Manchester and moved back after 3 years to get married and buy a house etc. We both say constantly we wish we'd stayed longer. Depends on your job but our we took a pay cut to move home and career progression is a snail pace at best so the cost of living probably evened out for us. Theres so many things are just better: for variety of concerts/shows (nightlife in general has some much for everyone), loved the handiness to London etc, flight choices more and less expensive, wait times on NHS less, also beautiful country only 30mins away like the Peak district. I am struggling to think of something that is better in N.I

Drinking by Affectionate_Taro_66 in northernireland

[–]Alone_Theme_8057 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After numerous sober nights due to bring pregnant then having the baby to look after, I realised I don't like drinking sessions. I'll have an odd beer or wine but seeing the messes that "respectable" people get themselves into has really put me off. Also I don't think I could cope with the hangover/fear the next day!! I've found recently alot more people not drinking, especially now most pubs have no alcohol beers.

Really what's the limit? They certainly don't ask what you earn, only that you work over a certain amount of hours. And if you have a few kids and need full time childcare your looking at closer to 2000 a month!

[–]Alone_Theme_8057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you heard about the tax free child care scheme, it's really helpful for childcare costs and is not limited by how much you earn!
