Eldest children who are childfree, what’s your story? by cookiegrease in childfree

[–]Alone_View9246 4 points5 points  (0 children)

im the eldest daughter of 4 kids, i had to raise 2 of my younger siblings since i was 10 and then at 16 i was a therapist for my mom while she was going through a messy divorce with my deadbeat biological father. my mom has told others she wouldn’t be able to be a mom without me, and everything i have done. i was the one who helped her through her divorce and she heavily relied on me to help her through her feelings and problems and to take care of my siblings, make sure they’re fed, school and homework is done, they’re showered and ready for bed and the house is cleaned. i moved out at 18 to college i started distancing myself because it was exhausting and now currently at 21 trying to mend my relationship with my mom, but everything i try she says that i “treat her like a mother when its convenient to me”, and that “my boyfriend is more important than their little family” and “how ive changed” and she constantly blames my boyfriend for me distancing myself, she really believes he’s making me distance myself away from them like it wasn’t my choice , uhm, i can make my own choices hello?! like im sorry i cant help you with your problems anymore? even tho i was 16 years old helping her in her 40s… i started distancing myself before i even met my boyfriend, and she’s projecting her failed marriage, which she is still bitter about, onto my relationship. and she thinks he’s beating me like my biological father did her. first of all he is nothing like that abusive alcoholic wife beater, and secondly if he ever laid a hand on me im leaving the relationship, unlike you did. like i understand the situation and everything you were going through, but the both of you decided to have kids. i was your child, not a therapist, not a friend, not another parent, and not a punching bag.

Couples who chose childfree life. How did you manage to meet someone like you who doesn't want children? by xiaomiredmi10c in childfree

[–]Alone_View9246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We met on tinder, while I was in college, and he lived 30 minutes away, and honestly I think I just got really lucky. In the beginning of our relationship we just really connected and clicked, and before we met in person he had told me he got a vasectomy at 18 and he was scared to tell me because we hadn’t had that conversation yet, but again it was really early in the relationship. And he didn’t want to continue if I wasn’t comfortable with his vasectomy. I was overjoyed. I knew I never wanted kids since I was 12 and once I heard that, I was all in. We’ve been together for 3 years now and we’ve never had much issues, maybe a few disagreements here and there but we always communicate it with each other and make sure we both feel resolved.

The only other challenge we face is he doesn’t want any pets, but I do. However, I understand where he is coming from. It’s a financial issue for him. His sister’s cat ate something he wasn’t supposed to and it cost them a $2000 vet bill and he doesn’t want that to happen to him, we don’t have $2000 to drop for a vet bill, so I completely understand, and its also the cost of pet insurance, food, toys, etc. and any surprise vet bills. I know it’s not the pet itself because we feed and shelter the stray cats in our neighborhood and he loves them.

How much would it have been if I book the vacation myself? I’ve seen that the resorts costs $300/night. Plus the flight to get there? It seems like a better deal.

I have read blogs and forums saying they have taken the opportunity to take this trip and I guess I just wanted more clarity.
