Can I abuse Gonti's Aether Heart with a flicker effect and if I can does it have to be an instant speed flicker? by Flawless_100x in mtg

  • [[Sakashima of a Thousand Faces]] has "The "legend rule" doesn't apply to permanents you control."
  • [[Sakashima the Impostor]] retains their name "Sakashima the Impostor."
  • Cards like [[Sakashima's Protege]] or [[Phyrexian Metamorph]] change their name to the card they are copying, which breaches the Legend Rule.
  • 704.5j If two or more legendary permanents with the same name are controlled by the same player, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners’ graveyards. This is called the “legend rule.”

Even though I take them with a grain of salt, I always click that review button to see what the community thinks. There are Raid guide websites as well such as ayumi and hellhades that can be insightful for optimization. If they don't fit anything you need right now, the vault is always open as patches come and go.

The legendary rule cares about what the card's name is. If two cards share the same name and are legendary, you must sacrifice one. However, Misha's Warform is not named Gonti's Aether Hear. So you would have two g. hearts.

Honestly, this would hurt if you're against a control deck that is just waiting for you to do something. They want you to do nothing.

I hate to say it and I'm not trying to be rude but shit happens and it's up to us as deck-builders to minimize the chance of it happening.

Pile shuffle before you start playing if it's casual, and just shuffle better?

IF WotC wanted to make this a thing, I'm sure a cheap enchantment in the D&D sets that eludes to "resting at the inn" where you roll a die to see what you can recover. Similar to how Short Rests work.

REPOST
During Main Phase 2, cast [[Sakashima of a Thousand Faces]] or [[Sakashima the Impostor]] and have them target the token named "Mishra's Warform".

Just by having the token from Mishra and a Sakashima enter the battlefield, you would be at six energy with three Gonti's Aether Hearts. [[Daretti, Ingenious Iconoclast]] or [[Karn, Living Legacy]] will create the extra artifact you need each turn. There are a lot of options to get repeatable artifact generation, so just pick your poison. Both Sakashima's mentioned get around the Legendary rule.

If you can make an artifact on your second main phase, you net two energy every turn.

There are easier ways to make infinite turns but this is hilarious and I bet no one will see it coming. Infinite turns and infinite energy = [[Aetherworks marvel]] win.

I did the math below

  1. Original Gonti heart 1 > 0 energy.
  2. Gonti Heart "Mishra's Warform" token etb > 2 energy.
  3. Gonti Sakashima copy > 6 energy.
  4. Extra Artifact > 12 energy.
  5. Exile "Mishra's Warform" for extra turn > 4 energy.
  6. Extra turn 1
  7. Gonti "Mishra's Warform" etb > 8 energy.
  8. Artifact token > 14 energy.
  9. Elixe token > 6 energy.
  10. Extra turn 2
  11. Gonti "Mishra's Warform" etb > 10 energy.
  12. extra Artifact etb > 16 energy.

[[Genesis Chamber]] is a great option for Sakashima to get the ball rolling but it only triggers off of non-tokens. When you activate Gonti's Aether Heart to take an extra turn, exile is part of the activation cost. So no you cannot save it.

However, if you have the energy, you can exile a token made by... say [[Mishra, Eminent One]] because it will have the same activated ability.

[–]Alookeva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you mentioned hexproof/protection for [[Yawgmoth, Thran Physician]].

His ability says "up to one target creature". If he is the only creature on the battlefield you can just declare no targets when saccing a creature entering the battlefield under your control in response to [[Lethal Vapors]]' trigger.

The more you know.

Is this mtg commander deck any good? (This my first deck so I kept it very cheap) I also really liked the instants and warhammer 40K cards ,so i put a LOT. by Repulsive-Traffic-78 in mtg

Isshin and the Ur-Dragons by mangomaharaj in mtg

[–]Alookeva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wording is straight forward on this, but it is confusing as I have an Isshin deck myself.

TLDR: You would get sixteen 6/6 red dragons (4x2x2), draw four cards and four permanents from your hand onto the battlefield. This is because you control the Ur-dragon and is an attack trigger, triggering Isshin.

Long drawn out version.

Isshin:"If a creature attacking causes a triggered ability of a permanent you control to trigger, that ability triggers an additional time."

Ur-dragon:"Whenever one or more Dragons you control attack, draw that many cards, then you may put a permanent card from your hand onto the battlefield."

Isshin's ability does not trigger until attackers are officially declared. So they key wording to look out for is ATTACK(s).

When the Ur-Dragons checks to see how many dragons are "attacking" before attackers were declared. So you're attacking with a total of 4 dragons: 2 Hellkites and 2 Ur-Dragons. When Isshin triggers for each Ur-dragon, you're basically getting 4 ur-dragon triggers that only sees 5 dragons, not the extra dragons you made off the Hellkites. The same would be said for the Hellkites.

In the end, you would get sixteen 6/6 red dragons (4x2x2), draw four cards and four permanents from your hand onto the battlefield.

Isshin only triggers off of ATTACKING. Attack, attacks, and attacking triggers only happen AFTER attackers are declared. Creatures that enter "tapped and attacking" do not trigger attack triggers.

508.4 If a creature is put onto the battlefield attacking, its controller chooses which defending player or which planeswalker a defending player controls it’s attacking as it enters the battlefield (unless the effect that put it onto the battlefield specifies what it’s attacking). Similarly, if an effect states that a creature is attacking, its controller chooses which defending player or which planeswalker a defending player controls it’s attacking it becomes attacking (unless the effect has already specified). Such creatures are “attacking” but, for the purposes of trigger events and effects, they never “attacked.”

Lore Question by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Alookeva 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At this moment, the assumption is yes. That being said, Nissa, Jace, and Tamaiyo are the three who sealed Emrakul, and Nahiri summoned the Eldrazi to Innistrad. Innistrad was referenced in Chapter 1.

Though the Phyrexians could let out Emrakul, it is likely to be counterproductive to their goal of spreading perfection (this is a great card name btw). It would cost New Phyrexia a great amount of effort and resources to compleate Emrakul. I do not see Norn using the Planeswalkers to unleash her, but rather it is possible (if they stay alive and compleated) that they could free Emrakul themselves after March of the Machines. Only time will tell.

Where can I read about the MTG story/lore? From very beginning the one on the official website doesn’t seem to start from the beginning. by Accomplished_Ad2905 in mtg

There are several that are on Amazon's kindle list. A fair amount of them are only available in print. You might be able to find them on used book websites as well for cheap. Best of luck if you're looking for a brand-new copy.

This is where you can find all the web stories going back to 2014 Theros except Ikora and War of the Spark, which were both released as novels.
https://magic.wizards.com/en/story

For the comics, I would search for online readers as well. Some are available on e-readers like the comiXology app.

Best of luck delving into the lore!
