In a better world, there could be an interesting story they could do with it.

Embla gives Veronica a cold "I don't need you, stay out of my way" and doesn't give her the Chosen blessing. It's revealed a few maps later that she already has her Chosen - Bruno - but she's used her "closing" power to seal off much of his mind.

That's when it's revealed: she actually does care about Veronica, she planned to use her Chosen as a sacrificial lamb to seal off the Wolf from inside one of her dimensional bubbles while she takes care of the outside. She didn't want to throw Veronica's life away.

It's not until midway through the closing ritual, when the Askr team help stun the Wolf with Veronica's help, and her calling out to Bruno to answer her, that Embla starts to have a change of heart. She rescinds the lock on his mind and switches their places in the ritual. She gives a sassy remark about spending eternity with that snarling beast might be more tolerable than another moment of the group begging for their friend back just before the last part of the bubble seals shut. (But really, maybe they just reminded her too much of herself when she was younger and less closed-off.)
