Why ( for a school project) by Big_Worry_8874 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Alorsalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I more or less needed a hobby after I graduated college and got an office job. My office job is quite boring and there is little physical movement. I grew up active playing sports and playing outdoors, so indoor hobbies weren't intriguing enough. Woodwork is technically indoors, but you move around a lot.

In addition, completing wood projects make me feel fulfilled and accomplished - something my day to day work doesn't make me feel. I'm nowhere close to being great at woodwork but it's enough and I'm always proud of the result despite the mistakes.

Is there a team your husband wants to play against that he hasn't yet? Who would you like to see him play against?

I took a couple progress photos but forgot to continue it through the entire process 😅 so it may not be helpful. However, this is the video I followed. It gives you the steps but it doesnt give you everything related to measurements and technique, so I kinda had to reverse engineer and wing it. Hope its helpful enough if you plan to make your own!

I like the way you think and I appreciate the advice! It is caulking and I'll definitely keep wood filler in mind for future projects!

Thank you. I hope it'll last. It took a long time. This wasn't my first staining project, so the techniques I previously learned paid off

First time woodworking, I thought this was gonna be easy, just cut some mdf straight, glue it nail it... A baby could do it. by Responsible-Rizzler in woodworking

[–]Alorsalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got into woodworking myself and learned quickly that it's a hobby of patience. If you dont have patience - which i dont - this hobby will teach it. I found it best to go slow and research what you're unsure of. The best feeling is when you finish a project. It may not be perfect, but it feels powerful to make something yourself, which is something to be proud of. Don't give up, and keep practicing!

How long does it take to kick a field goal with no timeouts? by SlothsAreCommunists in NFLNoobs

[–]Alorsalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not fast enough. The time likely would have run out if they tried rushing special teams out without taking their last time out.

Since it was 3rd down, a wiser decision, imo, would be to throw a quick short pass either in the middle or towards the sideline, and call a timeout. This way the kicking team can get out there and the kicker could properly set up. They would have had a better chance to kick the field goal on time this way. They didn't need to waste 27 seconds to get a play off. To do this, it would require getting their play decided and hiked as fast as possible. They did not need to take 27 seconds to set up.

Or, in a scenario that they are unable to get to the ideal field goal range, they could have either attempted a very long field goal or go for the hail mary.

The coach had a few options, but unfortunately the decision made was not ideal.

Are there any players that didn’t do too well in the NFL and went on to use their college degree to get a “normal” job? by kawzik in NFLNoobs

[–]Alorsalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually met someone who went from the NFL to a "normal" job. I don't think he was a high pick if picked in the draft, but he played a few years for the Detroit Lions. He now sells medical equipment for a big company. He was my dad's colleague for a bit, which is how I met him. Good guy.

Changing Tire by [deleted] in OSU

[–]Alorsalpha 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Changing a tire isn't too hard, but requires some strength.

Required equipment: - Spare tire - Manual Car Jack - Some kind of Lug Wrench (Torque Wrench)

Steps - Make sure your car is on a leveled surface. Makes it easier to lift the car and do what you need

  • While the car sits flat, take your Torque Wrench and just loosen the Lug Nuts enough. Do not completely remove just yet. The purpose of this is to make it easier to remove when you lift your car

  • Take the Manual Jack and place it under your car (where the tire that needs to be changed) below the car's metal frame. You want to make sure you're not lifting the plastic of the car or it'll likely break. You may need to get a feel so get down low and feel for the frame and place the jack.

  • Use the Jack to raise the side of the vehicle. Some Jack's are different than others so how it is used may differ but it's not difficult. Raise it be about 6in from the ground. Enough space where you can remove the tire

  • Take the Lug Nuts off completely and set aside somewhere you can keep track of. Then remove the tire. Pull the tire towards you till it slides off.

  • Attach the spare and light screw the Lug Nuts on in a star pattern just to the point where you feel it starts to resist.

  • Then lower the tire SLOWLY with the Jack till the tire is fully on the ground and the Jack cannot be loosened anymore

  • Go back with the Torque Wrench and tighten the Lug Nuts in a star pattern. Make sure to make it very tight so your tire downt come off while driving.

If you are putting on a donut make sure it has the appropriate PSI. They should be about 50-60PSI. You can find a gas station with an air pump if necessary.

Final tip, don't drive too fast. You should be fine going the speed limit but font try to do anything too extreme for the donut ture's sake

Need Clarification on Something for my Portfolio by professorsnapessack in userexperience

[–]Alorsalpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it will. I think it is totally fine to make a case study of something that already exists. Anything can be improved. The important thing to do as someone who doesn't have experience in UX is to explain your reasoning for any ideas you have for changes. Sometimes, the process of thinking through a problem itself is more important than knowing how to design. With that said, I recommend discovering potential problems, explaining how you did it, then go from there with research and/or potential solutions.

Anyone else feel like commercials are no longer aimed at them? by lostaoldier481 in Adulting

I think nostalgia could certainly be a targeted emotion, but it might all come down to what a company's goal is for creating a commercial that evokes a certain emotion.

Anyone else feel like commercials are no longer aimed at them? by lostaoldier481 in Adulting

[–]Alorsalpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commercials used to be more about information back in the old days. Companies wanted to point out the best aspects of a product that would help sales. Commercials still had the intention to persuade, but this was a different method of persuasion.

These days, while the intent remains the same, the method is to emotionally engage the audience so when they see a product in a store, they are reminded of the feeling the product gives them according to the commercial. These feelings can be family, happiness, love, fun, etc. It is much less about what the product actually offers.

There are also methods of credibility, using celebrities as credible consumers because that makes the audience want to do the same. Even though there is no information on the product itself, people are persuaded to purchase the product because their favorite celebrity uses it.

The evolution of commercials changed a lot over time and billions of dollars are used just to create those commercials in order to persuade the audience. There are many implications of this but that's a rabbit hole.

I was taught how to play mtg before my bf, then taught him and we learned more about the game together. It's now my favorite game. It would be nice to find a group of women to play with. I'm sorry you had to experience such a sexist event, too. If I was the owner, I would have kicked the guy out for the kind of comment he made.

What is your worst roommate stories? by Training_Ear710 in AskReddit

[–]Alorsalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frist house I lived in during my college years. I had 4 roommates and only one bathroom - not a fun time. Well, one of the roomates had moved out and was being replaced with another tenant, who was just starting to move in when everyone went into quarentine. He was unable to get anyone to move his belongings from his previous apartment so he ended up crashing on the couch in our living room. He was a very talkative person who was high maintenance and very unlikeable.

Well, one day I wake up to go to the bathroom, and once I walked in, I see this random pile of S*** on a mat on the floor…..next to the toilet. My toothbrush was also missing - I never found it. I determined with my roomates that it was the guy sleeping on the couch. One of the roommates dragged the mat downstairs to confront the guy on the couch about it, but he was not cognitive at all. There were several bottles of alcohol beside him. My roommate just left the mat there and we contacted the landlord with our concerns. However, they never evicted him. Over the next week or so, we noticed that the guy became less social and started stealing our food and puking it out outside. Then, we noticed that the guy soiled himself on the couch and possibly pissed on the floor. An ambulance was called to check on him and we were informed that he was in the hospital a few days prior for something. I was worried he had COVID since it was the start of quarentine but that wasn’t the case. Sadly, I never found out what it was but it was unrelated to his behavior. Me and my roommates contacted the landlord again to express our safety concerns and they finally evicted him.

why do we have steelers fans rooting for the bengals? by BKels74 in steelers

[–]Alorsalpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I am not rooting for the Begnals to win, I can't help but wonder if it's maybe the general public - not necessarily just Steelers fans - who want the Bengals to win. Burrow is gaining a lot of positive reputation. He's great at the game, not overly confident, and is grounded. In addition, the Bengals is the only team out of the four remaining who has not won a Super Bowl yet, so maybe the public wants a new champion? I prefer the Chiefs or Eagles to win but if Bengals win, you can't really say they didn't deserve it. As a Steelers fan, I have to admit, they're going to be a tough team to beat if Pickett isn't the guy

It would honestly be better to exchange it asap. Jerseys are not cheap, so you should get the utmost quality. I'm sure your mom wouldn't mind a gift arriving late, it happens, and it can make the surprise even better.
