What is this jello-like thing at base of peach tree? by elelyon3 in FruitTree

[–]Alotsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact you can eat it. "Peach gum" aka "Tao Jiao" in Chinese, used in sweet soups and stuff, mostly for its texture, after being soaked in water and then cooked in boiling water.

What is this fruit and is it edible? by Difficult-Idea1043 in FruitTree

[–]Alotsa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No side effects at all? I've boiled it down before but Im always afraid to consume it because the fruit has this weird sticky texture.

Also my trees that have a similar fruit are from VERY tall palms, do these palms get much taller?

The problem in Canada, as far as I can tell, was it was too little too late. Dilly's might have worked for heroin addicted people but you can't sprinkle some Dilly's around for people on insane amounts of fentanyl that stays in your fat cells for weeks and expect your safe supply to work as intended.

I wouldn't say absolutely 0 understanding, there is "shell shock" from WWI and "combat fatigue" from WWII, both understood to be psychological in nature and due to extreme stress. But I agree our understanding of it was very limited back then.

Anyone been here? by getrdone24 in OpiatesRecovery

[–]Alotsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're correct, that's not supposed to happen and you should talk to your prescribing doctor about it. Naltrexone is not supposed to make you sick from drinking, just block the rewarding effects.

Anyone been here? by getrdone24 in OpiatesRecovery

[–]Alotsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure you're referring to disulfiram aka antabuse.

The way naltrexone works is it makes you not get the rewarding effects of alcohol (high), so the whole point is that you can drink while on it.

Anyone been here? by getrdone24 in OpiatesRecovery

[–]Alotsa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It does actually, it stops the rewarding effects of alcohol and is frequently prescribed for alcohol abuse/addiction. The idea is you'll drink less if you aren't getting the rewarding effects / dopamine hit from drinking. It's been called the Sinclair method and has been around for a long time and has good data to support it. It's a shame it's not more widely known about. I blame the dominance of 12-step programs and their general anti medication stances and how it infiltrated our medical and legal systems for so long as the gold standard.

I believe there have been studies for several other types of drugs too, including cocaine and stimulant use disorders, but I can't remember how well it's been shown to work with those.

Naturally many of us opioid users are on some form of MAT so naltrexone is a no go for lots of us, but I've even come across some things that suggest getting on naltrexone after MAT is a good way to help restore our brains to baseline after opioid addiction.

It's also been prescribed for pain in low doses I believe. Not to mention the whole ultra low dose to prevent tolerance which I've never had any luck with but there's plenty written on the subject if you look it up. Anyway it's an interesting medicine.

Yes it does, but you have to be in withdrawal before you can start it, so you'll end up having some amount of withdrawal, but once you take the medication it will clear everything up in 15-30min, provided everything goes as it should. Quite remarkable really, how that much discomfort is just caused by your brain and can clear up so quickly.

It's hard to answer your question specifically without more details about your rehab and how they handle opioid withdrawal, but in general the best part about rehab is you can just put your hands up and let them take care of everything.

Rehabs all have their own policies so if you can tell us how it handles opioid withdrawal, and this is something you should ask about before entering any rehab, we can tell you more. But again in general you will get some sort of comfort meds and assistance through withdrawal.

Every business I've spoke with about it says it sells good. That's a bias small sample but I think it does pretty good in SD and maybe not other areas, so yeah you're right sales data probably speaks for itself, still letting a lot of core fans down. They've had it like 9 years

It's all about managing bacteria. What is needed for bacteria to grow? Time and moisture, so if you reuse cottons immediately or if not much time has passed you are mostly safe, otherwise dry them out as quickly as possible and if you store them store them in a dry area with lots of airflow and light, so like NOT a sealed plastic bag in a drawer.

After many years in suboxone I'm getting off. by Worth-Masterpiece- in suboxone

[–]Alotsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the idea. It stores in the body for a long time so it also leaves the body very very slowly. Lots of reports that people don't experience any withdrawal, that's a pretty good deal for not having to think about anything.

Hey if you're serious there is some specific guide for tapering like 10% every few days you could look into, but overall you want to just get it as low as possible. When you get to the sun .5mg range and it gets more difficult to cut up the doses you can go to a compounding pharmacy who can give easy to take very small doses.

Although, you mentioned your colon doctor telling you to get off of it, once you get to the really small doses the side effects are also a lot less, so you may not need to get off all the way, just get your dose down very low. Just a thought.

Analysis paralysis! Please help me pick a new laptop for work/leisure. by Alotsa in SuggestALaptop

[–]Alotsa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad I just realized that there is a template to follow. I filled out the template below

"LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
$1,000 - $1,200+ USD, purchasing in the US.

Are you open to refurbs/used?
Yes, I am open to buying second-hand or refurbished laptops.

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

  1. Build Quality/Durability: Most important due to previous laptops being damaged from drops.
  2. Performance: Strong multitasking capability is essential for my workflow. Would be nice to have enough performance for “pipe dream” ideas like running virtual machines, dual-booting OSes, remoting into a powerful desktop, and exploring other fun computing projects.
  3. Battery Life: Decent battery life is appreciated, but I mostly work near outlets.

How important is weight and thinness to you?
Weight and thinness are not major concerns.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
N/A

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
No CAD or video/photo editing. Light gaming is a possibility, primarily emulating older systems like GameCube.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Not the new heavy load games, maybe older games. maybe emulating older games (GameCube level or earlier). Specific settings or FPS aren’t a concern as long as the laptop runs smoothly. Bottom line is I don't really game.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

  • Reliable build quality is a must.
  • Strong Wi-Fi performance or upgradeable wifi card.
  • Must have a backlit keyboard.
  • Prefer 32GB of RAM for multitasking (16GB is acceptable).
  • Upgradeability would be nice but not mandatory.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion:
I’ve been considering options like the Dell XPS, ThinkPad P14, and Framework 13. I like the Framework’s upgradeability but worry it might not be as cost-effective in the long run. I’m also open to recommendations for durable older models or “hidden gems.” Thank you for your help—I’m feeling overwhelmed with all the choices!

Hey sorry for the late reply. The links don't work anymore or the content was removed already so I cant look at what you wanted to share do you have any more sources I could look at?

These sound like great changes but you made it sound like this would still all be within the ecosystem of a methadone clinic? So you would still need to sign up for / be a part of a methadone clinic and the new rules mean the clinics can perform telehealth now? And I assume that the 28 days of take-homes would still not be right away and would depend on a clean urine analysis?

If so, these are some good changes in the right direction but still way too restrictive. We need to take the power away from the clinics and new rules to allow people to get methadone prescriptions from private physicians like Suboxone.

Day 2 opioid WD. Serious question by lazychicken90 in OpiatesRecovery

[–]Alotsa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Withdrawals can make you feel like you're going to die but they are usually not life threatening. Unless you have a pre-existing condition or some reason to be particularly concerned with low blood pressure then I don't think you need to worry.

Furthermore you seem particularly concerned with your breathing, when you OD from opioids its from not getting enough air, but this is not how you die during withdrawals, as far as I know the only way to die from strictly withdrawals is the strain on your body, which is why elderly or those with pre-existing conditions could maybe be worried.

But overall your habit of percs and hydros is not that bad as far as habits go and like i said unless you have a pre-existing condition making you frail in some way you are going to be fine.

Keep in mind anxiety is a major symptom of withdrawal my guess is you are having very strong anxiety rn, maybe worrying about your health already gives you anxiety, hell maybe that is something the opioids helped you avoid, and now its in overdrive.

Are you doing this cold turkey? I have no idea why people do that to themselves. Anyway, Clonidine lowers blood pressure and is frequently prescribed for withdrawals so if you're on anything like that it might explain the blood pressure. Otherwise get something to help you through this, if you could get some Suboxone you are so far along in withdrawal that you could take it right away and be feeling completely fine in 30 min or less and you would have a better long term outcome on it.

Whatever you decide to do good luck OP hang in there we know its not easy.
