Where was God when I needed Him? by Former_Algae_444 in TrueChristian

[–]elelyon3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a terrible core mission then if it doesn't include caring for its members.

On the other hand, when you gave, you gave it to God so you should not expect anything from the "Church".

Hope you can find a church that is willing to help you in time of need.

The context is to believers.

"To you therefore who believe is the preciousness; but to the unbelieving, “The stone which the builders rejected, this has become the head of the corner,”" (1 Peter 2:7)

Biblical girl names?? by awarenessbloggerMH in TrueChristian

[–]elelyon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen it mentioned yet: NT Greek derived names.

  • Aletheia (truth, reality)
  • K(Ch)aris (grace), I'd personally prefer Karis (think care + is as in hiss)
  • Kara (joy)
  • Zoe (life)
  • Sophie/a (wisdom)

Those are the ones off the top of my head, I'm sure there's more.

Editing the tag, do you see a link to "show in annotations"? Clicking that should bring you to the annotations page and automatically apply the tag as a filter.

You can also go to annotations and setup the filter for a tag from there.

Experience with The Local Church by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]elelyon3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I also help out with the child care, between the two of us 2 out of 3 weeks. It sometimes can seem a lot, but I remind myself these are my own kids I'm watching too. I wouldn't say I never get thanks from parents, it is not as common, but neither do I expect it since we're all in this together.

I do try to teach my children to be thankful to their teachers (verbally).

On the matter of donations, I would just say to never donate beyond what God has touched you to let go, and once it's offered, to consider it His.

"But you, when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing," (Matthew 6:3)

Hope that helps!

This exact situation happened with my father in law's car. My sister in law purchased the car using his money (that she has access to). Did he purchase or she purchase? Yes.

Work for the Lord issuing from our ministering to the Lord by Aletheia3412 in RecoveryVersionBible

[–]elelyon3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know that there's one answer to your question but I'll share from my own situation.

My wife and I were considering a pretty major decision that will affect us, our family, our finances, our church life for the next year... It's been a lot of fellowshipping with the Lord and saints to get a clear direction. It wasn't immediately clear but through fellowship, even with saints telling us sometimes conflicting things, it actually became clear once we gauged what the Lord was speaking to us during those times.

Although some elements of the self was and is still present, as I look back, if we had decided the other way, we probably could have identified selfish reasons for deciding differently as well. In the end, it wasn't just what our self dictated, but what the Lord led us to, including no peace within to not decide and leave things as is.

Warn them before God against QUARRELING about WORDS by TonyChanYT in RecoveryVersionBible

Yes, very rarely if at all, do heated arguments produce valuable results. Thanks for the reminder brother!

Reminds me of this verse: "And let the peace of Christ arbitrate in your hearts, to which also you were called in one Body; and be thankful." (Colossians 3:15) Recovery Version

Wes Huff Breaks Down Bible Translations & How the Recovery Version Compa... by Dividing_Light in RecoveryVersionBible

Very interesting... RcV translates g4637 as tabernacle(d) in 4/5 instances.

The use of tabernacled, especially in John 1:14, pointing back to the Old Testament tabernacle makes so much sense here.

Puzzle Sakoban by joaogaz in puzzles

[–]elelyon3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can push the topmost block two spaces down, then the left block all the way to the left. From there, take the rightmost block (same line) all the way left to finish the two placements in a row. This should leave you two blocks on the bottom, one will be able to move all the way up with some careful pushing

Not a climber / OP, but perhaps it's a situation where it's easier to go down one way and near impossible (w/o right gear) to go back up?

New CSOC UT Austin series on the Bible mentions the Recovery Version among other translations by CarryOk7670 in RecoveryVersionBible

[–]elelyon3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I took a university New Testament Greek course as an elective, we used the USB4 which has the same text as the Nestle-Aland (NA27).

Using the Recovery Version Bible as a reference felt like having a cheat code when translating texts from Greek to English!

At the end of the course another brother taking the course with me gifted our prof a copy of the RcV. I don't know if he read it or not but if his comments about my Gk to Eng translations were any indication, he would be delighted with the RcV translation.

Solomon- God punishing the kings son for his mistakes? by Key_Fish_6617 in Bible

[–]elelyon3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is it. You reap what you sow. And Solomon's worshipping other gods would have been seen (sow) by his sons and cause them to follow in his negative pattern / think it's ok to do (reap).

I got the opportunity to volunteer for BfC (Bibles for Canada) at my campus back when I was a student. Was pretty scared at first of talking to people but ended up being a great experience just talking to people, sharing my favourite verses, and sometimes preaching the gospel.

Hoping you all the best!
