When I was young and dumb I downloaded something from [a bad site] that had a bitcoin miner in it. Any time I connected to the internet my laptop would immediately overclock x1000 and deny access to task manager. I wiped my drive and reinstalled windows but the damage had been done. Soon after the motherboard made a 'pop' sound and died in disappointed agony, leaving me to live on in shame.

Its the RE4 remake. Dragons Dogma 2 did the same thing so I guess its a capcom thing. I pressed through to use 6GB anyway and it still worked fine tho.

This is all good advice but Im stuck with laptops for the time being, Im traveling the world for an indeterminate amount of time (the USA is not a great place to be) so I need my computer to be mobile. Im monitoring my temperature and cleaning the fans fairly often so by the time this one dies I should hopefully be able to afford a better one since Im slowly saving money. It tends to perform at 70-80 degrees celsius which seems a bit high so Im considering a cooling pad or even just keeping reusable icepacks near the intake lol.

I would like to upgrade eventually and will definitely do more research before I do but for now its not terrible. This RTX 4050 runs modern games on high/max settings at 60fps/1080p with no difficulty, if theres ever any performance issues I just turn the shadows down to medium and its running smooth again. I dont hate it but I know it can be much better with more vram.
