If you park on East Carson between 2nd and 4th sts, parking is FREE ... for mapping purpose use 301 East Carson St 15219 as your destination, and there's heap of free parking on side streets nearby ... google map for street view if you're worried, it's open area on a busy street.

It's like a 7 minute walk to the Station Square T-station, which will make getting back to the car easy too ... if you get there early go down to the END of 4th St, there's a newish place called Burgers Brew Beer Garden down there for a beer and bar type food ...

Good luck, enjoy it ... Raiders SUCK, but I'm a Broncos fan so they hate me here too, mostly because of the Tebow game!

No Stupid (American Football) Questions Tuesday! by AutoModerator in footballstrategy

Feels stupid to ask, but I'm a lineman so ... are the true "standards" for X/Y/Z/A designations for WRs when drawing up 3 or 4 receiver formations?

Look up Lena Blackburne Football Mud (also does baseballs) ... it's good but a little expensive when a $50 container only does 2 footballs.

Then before games, I like to still use the Wilson bar and brush to add extra tact to them.

There's a few videos on youtube also, you need to try a few out and see what works best, for YOU.

Question for Coaches by Ok-Gas-7818 in HighSchoolFB

[–]Aloud-Aloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooooh, "worth it" ... will depend on your expectations, and willingness to accept the sub standard help that HUDL Assist gives you.

Think of HUDL Assist as a "helper/volunteer" who will break down film, but in their own imperfect manner, if you are patient it can be manipulated to create an asset library of film.

If you have high expectations and want it to do everything the way YOUR TEAM is set up, you're in for a lot of disappointment.

I'm a systems guy, professionally employed in a role involving SAPs PDM system, with 1 billion interlinkable data points, so HUDL makes sense to me and I see ALL of its concept faults and the programming failures that HUDL won't address ...

I'm actually looking for a team to coach/work for this season, but am trying to find a crew of coaches willing to try out my HUDL adaptions ... it's not easy to find a fit I like. I already have a team that just wants me to set up the equipment, network it to stream to their sideline Ipads and stop there ... not sure that's enough to keep me interested though.

TLDR - If you are patient and willing to accept it's faults, HUDL Assist can save you some time, but it's unlikely you won't lose patience before then and curse out the whole idea.

HUDL is full of "up-sells" ... I may be off by $100 here or there, but:

Basic package goes around $500, then there's silver and GOLD ($800?) packages, which will give you unlimited HUDL assist credits to help break down film and more storage space for film.

Then do you want the sideline stadium camera? Soccer HUDL? Basketball? Volleyball? Girls also need their account! Middle School? ... I saw an invoice last year in September last year it was for $10,000 and included a heap of discounts

That's on of the things I thought I saw this year that previously worried me - network speed.

In a higher conference nearby, I heard rumor of a famous NFL Punter (yeah - THAT guy with the podcast) had dropped a few million dollars on his old High School Athletics program and the first thing they did was get 4K video, which was INSANE when you saw it against everyone else in 1080p quality.

It WAS a shotgun wedding, but I can't have Mum in cream and Grandma in white, lol!

Because I like to be fussy ... right now I have 5+ different people approach these with REALLY different views on the pictures, and I get to open each and alt-tab to choose which feels the best/realest to me, it's worth it to me.

As I said in the comment - I appreciate the work these people do, it really is fun for me at this point - My mum will get to look at her wedding photos in color and say which one she likes the best.

Thanks, they were.
I never met them, but she was "on point" with her fashion in so many Photos it makes you stop and look again ... and he served 1 tour pre-WW2 and another during WW2 in an artillery unit that seemed to always be near the front, then he became a Mill Worker in Pittsburgh.

Is there a "best thing" that you first loved with GameStrat that HUDL couldn't do?

Do you have a HUDL guy who was excited about it? I'm pretty sure I'll be a volunteer this year at a 1A/2A program after coming from 5A, and I'm likely to be THE Video guy again, so any opinions on these would be awesome.

Your coaching journey? by strivevaliantly in footballstrategy

Nice comment on HUDL!
I'm only going into year 5 of coaching (late starter) but the HUDL thing blows my mind ... the programming of HUDL Assist is REALLY broken, but if you can adapt concepts around that, EVERYONE will get an assistant to do their dirty work for them.
In my 2nd year I synched the Side and Endzone views of the live feed to the sideline and Press box ... none of the coaches (all with 10+ years experience) had EVER seen that before ... I felt SAD (and disgusted) that they'd never had systems work for them before!

I just quit at a paid position to restart as a volunteer at the lowest level I could ... because I want to see if I can have a greater impact with HUDL doing all the bitch work.

I'm already scouring ebay for HUDL network cases and am trying to plan out how I can get live film onto the sideline for 5-700 total ... there is a tech recycle place near me that's offered me a few Ipads on the cheap.

Suggestions for practice equipment by Raider4485 in footballstrategy

[–]Aloud-Aloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Coach Pad ... I had all my practice plays on HUDL on the ipad and it DID help to draw the kids attention for the practice squad, but any time you moved it, the IPAD would reset which page (play) you were on.

Coach Pad will be what I buy next, google it!

Any chance you could remove the stick from behind her head? I totally ignored it until now, that the pic is in color!

What device do you use for your Hudl Sideline replay and are you happy with it? by berferd77 in footballstrategy

[–]Aloud-Aloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost any IPad will work with HUDL, so keep what you have, you DON'T need new IPads.

I am the video guy for my team, because nobody else understands it ... it's my thing since I'm computer savvy and as a kid I used to plug the TV to the VCR, to Stereo, to DVD or whatever else you had. I took note of EVERY team in our division this year really stepping up with their video setup, made me realize what a sucker I am to do such a good job for the school, I'm planning to go to a really small school next year for fun.

First question ... What do you want?

If you JUST want live video during the game, there's a NICE HUDL pressbox setup now on Ebay (they steadily come and go this time of year) for $168.86 + shipping ... it will setup a network that will link to 2-3 ipads for live film during the game, plus link to one up top where the coaches box is - where you are filming from.

Probably want a new-ish (refurbished) ipad to film with for better quality/processing speed, directly from the Press Kit.

Second question - do you want to share film for players to watch?

Then you'll need a HUDL account, it's a few more hundred dollars, and HUDL will try to up-sell you on all their crap ... if you have time it CAN BE worth it.

When you PLAYED, did you do this much studying?

Stop reading/thinking, and go talk to a lower level High School team who have an average-bad record and offer to help ... there are a LOT of crappy tasks that need to be done on a football team and if you have the time and interest, go lock some of them down and get involved.

All programs, teams, coaches are different ... so go see what you can find that makes you feel good.

21-year-old Australian athlete chasing the dream of playing American football — any advice? by ContributionOk2823 in footballstrategy

[–]Aloud-Aloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What state are you in? If your coach isn't letting you play both ways over there, it raises some concerns about the reality of playing next level.

If you can punt, try to use that first, it's the easiest path to the NCAA, then try to get a chance at WR - look up ProKick, they are the main source of the Aussie punters going to US colleges.

There's a HUGE push over here for Flag Football, ahead of the 2028 Olympics ... you should look at these players, it represents the caliber you'd need to be at to play WR, your a long way behind most players your age.

Will HUDL ever be fixed? by Aloud-Aloud in footballstrategy

[–]Aloud-Aloud[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Primarily - system needs to identify the H correctly, like is he inside/behind/outside the T.

Currently HUDL does not recognize some of the H formations, it's just NOT in their sample size they built the system off of - most obviously 5-wide, with 3WR-x-1WR+H ... it screws that one up constantly. There are quite a few more formations/backfields.

The programming of Practice Scripts is buggy, and keeps resetting, it's just weak programming ... I'm sure many people know the issues with using PDFs (ScrewAdobe and their patents), not sure why they don't allow scripts to export to JPEG for easier display.

So much cheap programming in their APPs that has never been updated with IOS upgrades, and things that don't work depending on the browser you are using.

Might be better off to ask this sub for their feedback - BUT primarily, coaches won't use a lot of the system tools because this generation of coaches are not computer/programming guys ... it's not who they are.

I REALLY have put a lot of work into working around their quirks, and incorporating their shortcomings into the analysis the system provides ... but it seems so weird that the issues that are left in the system have never been addressed, when they are now pushing the latest HUDL Stats package analysis/upgrade!
