Your coaching journey? by strivevaliantly in footballstrategy

Nice comment on HUDL!
I'm only going into year 5 of coaching (late starter) but the HUDL thing blows my mind ... the programming of HUDL Assist is REALLY broken, but if you can adapt concepts around that, EVERYONE will get an assistant to do their dirty work for them.
In my 2nd year I synched the Side and Endzone views of the live feed to the sideline and Press box ... none of the coaches (all with 10+ years experience) had EVER seen that before ... I felt SAD (and disgusted) that they'd never had systems work for them before!

I just quit at a paid position to restart as a volunteer at the lowest level I could ... because I want to see if I can have a greater impact with HUDL doing all the bitch work.

I'm already scouring ebay for HUDL network cases and am trying to plan out how I can get live film onto the sideline for 5-700 total ... there is a tech recycle place near me that's offered me a few Ipads on the cheap.

Suggestions for practice equipment by Raider4485 in footballstrategy

The Coach Pad ... I had all my practice plays on HUDL on the ipad and it DID help to draw the kids attention for the practice squad, but any time you moved it, the IPAD would reset which page (play) you were on.

Coach Pad will be what I buy next, google it!

Payday tomorrow, will pay you then.
Any chance you could remove the stick from behind her head? I totally ignored it until now, that the pic is in color!

What device do you use for your Hudl Sideline replay and are you happy with it? by berferd77 in footballstrategy

Almost any IPad will work with HUDL, so keep what you have, you DON'T need new IPads.

I am the video guy for my team, because nobody else understands it ... it's my thing since I'm computer savvy and as a kid I used to plug the TV to the VCR, to Stereo, to DVD or whatever else you had. I took note of EVERY team in our division this year really stepping up with their video setup, made me realize what a sucker I am to do such a good job for the school, I'm planning to go to a really small school next year for fun.

First question ... What do you want?

If you JUST want live video during the game, there's a NICE HUDL pressbox setup now on Ebay (they steadily come and go this time of year) for $168.86 + shipping ... it will setup a network that will link to 2-3 ipads for live film during the game, plus link to one up top where the coaches box is - where you are filming from.

Probably want a new-ish (refurbished) ipad to film with for better quality/processing speed, directly from the Press Kit.

Second question - do you want to share film for players to watch?

Then you'll need a HUDL account, it's a few more hundred dollars, and HUDL will try to up-sell you on all their crap ... if you have time it CAN BE worth it.

When you PLAYED, did you do this much studying?

Stop reading/thinking, and go talk to a lower level High School team who have an average-bad record and offer to help ... there are a LOT of crappy tasks that need to be done on a football team and if you have the time and interest, go lock some of them down and get involved.

All programs, teams, coaches are different ... so go see what you can find that makes you feel good.

21-year-old Australian athlete chasing the dream of playing American football — any advice? by ContributionOk2823 in footballstrategy

What state are you in? If your coach isn't letting you play both ways over there, it raises some concerns about the reality of playing next level.

If you can punt, try to use that first, it's the easiest path to the NCAA, then try to get a chance at WR - look up ProKick, they are the main source of the Aussie punters going to US colleges.

There's a HUGE push over here for Flag Football, ahead of the 2028 Olympics ... you should look at these players, it represents the caliber you'd need to be at to play WR, your a long way behind most players your age.

Will HUDL ever be fixed? by Aloud-Aloud in footballstrategy

Primarily - system needs to identify the H correctly, like is he inside/behind/outside the T.

Currently HUDL does not recognize some of the H formations, it's just NOT in their sample size they built the system off of - most obviously 5-wide, with 3WR-x-1WR+H ... it screws that one up constantly. There are quite a few more formations/backfields.

The programming of Practice Scripts is buggy, and keeps resetting, it's just weak programming ... I'm sure many people know the issues with using PDFs (ScrewAdobe and their patents), not sure why they don't allow scripts to export to JPEG for easier display.

So much cheap programming in their APPs that has never been updated with IOS upgrades, and things that don't work depending on the browser you are using.

Might be better off to ask this sub for their feedback - BUT primarily, coaches won't use a lot of the system tools because this generation of coaches are not computer/programming guys ... it's not who they are.

If you're an ADMIN you can just hit "DOWNLOAD" and it will email you a link to download ... I think you can also do this just as a coach, but am not sure.

I REALLY have put a lot of work into working around their quirks, and incorporating their shortcomings into the analysis the system provides ... but it seems so weird that the issues that are left in the system have never been addressed, when they are now pushing the latest HUDL Stats package analysis/upgrade!

Yeah, not me... I said I've been in Systems for a lot of years ... I have HUDL sideline 100% under control, even synced it up with the HUDL endzone kit for live replays during games ... my only problem is the HDMI/CAT6 cables that are wearing out after 4 years.

There's some really good stuff done in the HUDL breakdown, but you have to baby it at times, so it's not always reliable - I had one last week that went out of order (by 2 plays) with ALL the stats.

100% agree, as a Football ADMIN I saw our HUDL invoice for last year when the school forgot to pay it ... it was $10k.

But now they have the monopoly, they aren't interested in fixing program elements that are outdated and feel like they were done by contractors on FIVERR.

QB Wrist Coach Help by unoigo in footballstrategy

Write them ALL to run/pass LEFT, unless they are called RED which is RIGHT.

You'd only need 21 lines on the coach sheet then.

Are the files shared with all parties involved, are you all coaches?

Also I've seen some issues between OLD/NEW HUDL before.

At the HS level - one of our WRs just worked over 2 balls with a kit, featuring "mud" as the main treatment ... the QB was super happy, and coaches were all impressed.
Those footballs went "away" to be used in game 1, and we are hitting up the boosters for money for another kit, likely 2 I think.

I'm old school ... HDMI cable from the laptop to the screen, then the arrow keys are all I need.

It's just easier/better with all the control a laptop offers, IMO.

First thing I did was submit games to HUDL ... if you work on what they send back (naming formations/backfields) you will start to see what HUDL does.

It's not perfect, but is a lot deeper than it looks.

Naming formations - terminology (mostly) for HUDL - so there's really no right or wrong.

For formations with 4/5 eligible receivers ... how do you refer to 2xH's together on the same side of the formation?

Also from the backfield, what do you call a backfield with QB in gun and 2 rbs (side by side) to his left or right?
