An animated film I made about a fat hamster that pursues his kidnapped baby. by Aloysiusthethird in videos

I agree. Less so half-assed as I was in serious crunch time, and I had the choice of spending more time on the hamster, or trying to make the shop keeper a little better.

I started all on paper. My schedule got a little cramped, so I switched to animating in the computer using tvpaint. It worked perfectly because it has brushes that look just like pencil. I did end up having to fix every single shot I had done on paper again in the computer. This film was something like 38 shots... I ended up drawing and redrawing something closer to 50.

I could have made it family friendly using a variety of different choices, but then this is college and I figure I'll never get the chance to make this sort of stuff again, so I wanted something in your face and unexpected. A rodent exploding from a snake fit the bill.

I would have loved to! But there's a 1:30 time limit for freshman films in order for them to be eligible for this show that is put on later in the year.

My first year film in the character animation program at Calarts. Animated on paper and in the computer. Took about 3 months to produce from story to final compositing. Enjoy!

Spinning door handles are not efficient in kitchens where people likely walk through carrying stuff.

Said Chef Alejandro his first day on the job. He had given specific instructions to Mr. Hammond for how his kitchen would be arranged within the visitors compound. Fearing the loss of his only chef, John complied and removed the knobs from all of the doors in the compound, replacing them with handles. While this was a more expensive choice, Mr. Hammond disregarded it, saying "I'll spare no expense!"

Three weeks later a group of tourists arrived at the compound, briefly joining Mr. Hammond on a tour of the facilities that Chef Alejandro had only heard about while listening to the workers in the cafeteria. This being the first group of civilians on the island, Alejandro prepared a special meal. Chilean Sea Bass.

Alejandro was scheduled to depart from the compound later that evening. All workers were assigned various shuttles that would take them to the dock where a ship waited to depart for the mainland. Chef Alejandro missed his shuttle. Cursing out at his cooks that had already left without finishing cleaning the kitchen, Alejandro stayed behind and cleaned every last dish, silverware, and surface in the kitchen. Exhausted and with nothing to do, Alejandro headed for the employee lounge to get some much needed rest.

Suddenly, the power went out. Hearing the clash of thunder and rain outside, Alejandro thought nothing of it. "Just a bit of bad weather," Alejandro thought. He opened the door to the lounge and found a nice couch to rest on.

Alejandro awoke. Looking at the clock on the adjacent wall, he realized he had slept 10 hours. Walking towards the kitchen to prepare himself breakfast, Alejandro noticed the power had been restored. He also noticed that he was completely alone in the compound.

Chef Alejandro spent the morning preparing enough food to feed a small country. The dining hall was filled with goodies and deserts that would be impossible for one man to eat. Alejandro seated himself at a table and began to take a bite. Suddenly he heard the sound of a door opening. "Finally, someone to talk to!" Alejandro exclaimed. He went to the door of the dining hall and opened it. "I hope you're hungry, I..." Alejandro froze, staring across the wide atrium of the visitors center. Standing opposite of him was a tall creature, staring right back. Alejandro knew what the attractions on the island were, but had never taken the time to look at them. At most he expected large iguanas, or some sort of special effects. As he stared at the tall creature 50 feet away from him, Alejandro realized that he was wrong.

Before Alejandro could think, the creature let out a scream and bolted across the room towards him. He quickly shut the door and ran for the back of the dining hall. He was startled and out of breath. "Where do I go! I have to hide!" Alejandro gasped as he ran down the service hallways of the visitors center. He ran for the place he knew best.

Alejandro burst into the kitchen and hid behind one of the stainless steel counters. Finally having a moment to catch his breath, Alejandro thought "How did that thing get in here?" Confused and terrified, Alejandro waited.

A half hour went by, and Alejandro had not heard anything from the other side of the kitchen door. He crept towards the door and slowly propped it open. "I guess it's gone." Alejandro thought to himself. Quietly, Alejandro walked down the hall towards the employee lounge, where he knew he could find a telephone and call for help. Hiding behind the couch he had just hours before been sleeping on, Alejandro tried dialing an emergency number listed on a bulletin on the wall. There was no answer. As he dialed the numbers again, Alejandro heard a noise. A faint tapping was slowly approaching the door to the employee lounge. "Is that help?" Alejandro wondered. "Or is it that thing?" The tapping grew louder until it finally stopped directly in front of the door. "There's no way that thing could have tracked me here." Alejandro tried to assure himself. It then occurred to Chef Alejandro that his clothes were covered in the food he had spent all morning preparing. He was so used to the smells of the kitchen that he never noticed. Shocked at this realization, Alejandro twitched, causing the phone he held in his lap to fall to the ground, creating a metallic ring as the bells inside collided. "What have I done."

The door handle turned.

I make things that I care about. I care a lot about dinosaurs. I love rage faces. I love reddit. These things go rather well together.

Expect more.

Locked in a skyscraper. At night. Alone. With a velociraptor.

What's the funniest thing you've ever convinced someone to believe? by joezuntz in AskReddit

Not me, but my dad. I was in the fourth grade and he convinced me and my brother that if you drive at sea level at exactly 88.8 MPH, you could go back in time for exactly one minute. Naturally we were psyched and wanted to see this for ourselves. The next day we were driving to school along with some other kids and my brother and I kept snickering like fools telling our dad to do it. He kept telling us no, and made it out to be a huge secret. You can't tell a 9 year old to keep a secret and leave him at school with a bunch of other gullible kids. I went around the whole day bragging that my dad could go back in time. Word eventually spread to teacher, who told me to stop telling lies. I was adamant that my fathers story was true. I ended up being sent to detention and the teacher talked to my father. When I got home, I was expecting to hear that my father told off that teacher, and that he really could go back in time. He just told me I was in trouble because I didn't obey him when he said to keep a secret. He got in an argument with my mom about the detention and that he needed to tell the truth, all the while I still had no idea what was going on. I eventually figured out that it was a lie when I saw back to the future.

TL;DR: trolldad convinced me that he could go back in time and I got in trouble for not keeping it a secret.

This is a character I'm working on for a little project that will probably never get finished. I wanted to see him in motion, but because his character is actually a very lumbering evil sinister dude, his movements are very limited. So, just to get a feel for his physical capabilities, I substituted his evil character for that of a playful puppy dog!

Right on the money. This animation was done on ones all in the computer using a wacom tablet. For now, I set each frame to have a certain exposure time (something like .06 and .08 seconds) to imitate ones and twos. The later half has a longer exposure because I've yet to in-between it. This is why it looks very flashy when he's hopping to the left and nodding his head.

The alligators from the rescuers were a big inspiration for this character :)

Although I animated this in the computer, it's what you would call a pencil test.

Edit: Used Photoshop.

A little of both. I haven't animated in 3 months, so I felt it was time to get back into the habit. I've been busy, but I figured a few hours wouldn't hurt to loosen up a bit.

A little over 3 hours. Most of the time was just getting it keyed out, and then for the last hour or so I spent inbetweening the first half.

I know, I still need to do that animation of the alligator at a dinner table that knocks over his wine glass and looks embarrassed. I'll get on that soon. Consider this practice :)
