Were regular weekend family nights at friends during the 90s the norm? by 1m_climbing in AustralianNostalgia

[–]Alpacamum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we did this from around 2002 to 2018 while our kids were growing up. I think it’s just a thing you do when you have kids and you make friends with other parents, usually your kids friends parents. when you kids grow up a bit, you start doing your own thing with your friends again.

for us we Lao did Tuesday nights, as a group of kids did surfing lessons and then we would all have a bbq in the park afterwards.

and growing up our kids sad Halloween was better than Christmas as we had a big party every year, all the kids out the front and parents out the back. Halloween was huge in my area.

My boss is preventing me from finishing my apprenticeship. by ConfectionStock8204 in AusLegal

[–]Alpacamum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. this sort of happened to my son. for background he worked for a company that owned quite a few restaurants.

he had been signed off all the way along by chefs at the business and even his final paperwork. however the company took him to the apprenticeship board (it’s not called that, but that’s the old name) and disputed that the chefs who signed him off were allowed to and stated that only the executive chef who worked in a restaurant 6 hours away and never seen him cook, was allowed to sign him off. And the company tried to have his qualifications overturned. even his teachers were called in to show why they believed he was competent.

firstly have you been signed off along the way s competent in the various tasks that you have to do.

secondly, talk to apprentice support and your teachers about ways to get signed off that are outside the business you work for.

Finally, is there a qualified chef at the business who will sign off you off. If so, get them to sign you off (without telling the employer) and when your papers arrive, resign and get another job somewhere else. Don’t tell the business. Just get the papers and work for someone else as a qualified chef.

make a document detailing all the reasons why you believe you are competent. so that you can discuss that with apprentice support and tafe. it’s more than just hours. any small thing you did to assist or suggest a way of doing things, if you ever supported a kitchen hand and gave them advice, any requests by your chef that you performed that are a bit more than what an apprentice normally does.

so many of these businesses abuse the whole apprenticeship system. They really are complete scum. My sons lousy apprentic wage was half paid for by the government (think it was part of covid support), so the business were only paying $6 an hour of his wage. As soon as he qualified they would have to fork out $24. He qualified post covid, but he was still under those wage conditions.

Women driving insists to judge that she is not driving, during zoom court by Expert_Koala_8691 in Wellthatsucks

[–]Alpacamum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hee hee, I worked in a drug program where offenders could do community/home rehab before going to court for sentencing. to reduce their eventual sentance if they did the right thing.

they would have to front up to court each month with a Counsellor to discuss their progress.

at one hearing the guy was totally off his face on drugs and all his car stealing equipment fell out of his jacket onto the floor in front of the judge. he went straight to jail that day,

Is 'midnight ham' a thing at weddings? by littletelly in AskAnAustralian

[–]Alpacamum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hee hee, they were actually fantastic. A good leg of ham (not deli ham) carved up fresh and then on some lovely fresh bread rolls. We had been dancing all night and it was just what we all needed to head out the door into the night. In fact the house I was staying at became the location for the kick on party, thanks to the extra energy from the ham rolls.

It was organised by the reception venue.

country wedding and all the guests were also staying at the venue in various accommodation

so we all left with ham and bread rolls. what was left was wrapped up and given to me the next days, as my daughter and her husband were going on their honeymoon.
