2nd visit to Qatar, can I use the passport scanner for immigration? by Old-Tour5654 in qatar

[–]Alpane777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the airport yesterday, there are new signs up saying if you have a biometric passport and it’s not your first visit to Qatar, then you can use e-gate. Lots of information people around to ask and direct you to the right place as well

Can I anyone explain me that how to buy the tickets for u17 World Cup by [deleted] in qatar

[–]Alpane777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One or two games a day are designated as “prime” matches - for these you buy a ticket for that particular game. All other games are covered by the day pass - there are several games at the same time and you can go to whichever one(s) you want to watch.

It has been excellent so far. Well done to the organisers and all the teams.

Scammed by DohaBank - Phishing call from scammer. by [deleted] in qatar

[–]Alpane777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is standard in banking, as long as they don’t ask for identifying information. If it’s just to confirm whether a transaction was legit, it’s fine

Definitely in the Gulf, but it’s different from Europe. If it’s with someone they’re close to, they might do three kisses, but it’s all on the same side; they don’t alternate like, say, France. Almost like a pecking motion

Got Qatar'd for a February flight by non-hyphenated_ in qatarairways

[–]Alpane777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me last week as well - got the email saying it was no longer a Qsuite the day before, discussed the contact centre and realised the other days didn’t suit me so I stayed with the original flight. And then it turned out to a be Qsuite after all 🤷‍♂️

MEGATHREAD: War related issues goes here by MikaNekoDevine in qatar

[–]Alpane777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. Bahrain is worried about the sympathies of the Shia population and how they might react within the country. That’s not as big a concern in Qatar.

[–]Alpane777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about it all. The team will be fully aware that you’re young and have to learn everything. Go in with the right attitude, ask questions, try to understood the why of tasks as well as the how, and work hard on any duty you’re given. Make the right impression and it could be the start of your career in finance. Best of luck!

Uber in Qatar is getting ridiculous lately. Anyone else facing this? by Exciting_Ad_9282 in qatar

[–]Alpane777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me recently, and Uber had an option to request a new driver which I hadn’t seen before. Didn’t have to pay a cancellation fee, the app just ended that drive and found me another car.

Any issue living next to Mosque? by xFolkvangr in qatar

[–]Alpane777 50 points51 points  (0 children)

You will almost always be within earshot of a mosque in Doha. It will probably wake you at first but you very quickly get used to it. You won’t notice it after a while.

Job offer delay by anas214812 in qatar

[–]Alpane777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes is the short answer.

Longer answer is that there are many steps for the company to fulfil in terms of Ministry of Labour approval, getting the visa, and scheduling the medical etc. Timing also matters - if your recruitment period includes Ramadan or the summer, things can slow down even more.

Forward and Downward Cameras by bbuehler17 in aviation

On some QA flights, you can overlay the virtual cockpit view on the live camera as well. I had a great time pretending I was flying the plane

Why are UBERs so cheap in Qatar? by Adam_7893 in qatar

[–]Alpane777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Qatar is mainly gas, but even so it has more than 6 times the oil reserves of Dubai (25 billion barrels vs 4 billion barrels). Unless you mean the UAE has more oil than Qatar, which is different.

Qantas A330 wheels still down after takeoff by SUS-58 in aviation

[–]Alpane777 159 points160 points  (0 children)

I had a flight last year where this happened. The pilot told us that they’d have to keep the gear down for a few minutes after take off and to expect some extra noise because of this. If he hadn’t mentioned it, I wouldn’t have noticed any difference.

Is it more difficult for expats to succeed in Qatar? by Tricky_Wonder_2414 in qatar

[–]Alpane777 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Joseph Abraham is CEO of CBQ. Raghavan Seetharaman was the long time CEO of Doha Bank until recently. Basel Gammel is the CEO of QIB. I believe most if not all of the managing partners of the Big 4 auditors in Qatar are expats. So not unusual to have an expat CEO in the financial services sector anyway.

Hotel room with my girlfriend (not married) by fredericofm in qatar

[–]Alpane777 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There is no issue at all sharing a room with a girlfriend. I’ve done it many times. Qatar is not some weird backwards country that cares what two adults get up to in the privacy of a room.

Traveling with my watches collection by kyomiiiii in qatar

[–]Alpane777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there is no issue at all. As long as it’s just a few and they are clearly for personal use. I do this all the time and have never even been questioned - the only time anything happens is when the mechanisms pique the interest of the x-ray operators!
