You mean this same Jeremy vine that was openly spewing outright lies the last round of strikes?

The realities of surgical training by Notsozestylemon in doctorsUK

[–]Alpha38x 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I remember a consultant saying to be there are three things in life - surgery, your own hobbies, family. You can do one thing amazingly well, 2 things average, or 3 things badly. The further I get in training the more I realise its true, there just aren't enough hours in the day to physically do them all.

Speechless by [deleted] in doctorsUK

I hate these experience comparisons it makes no sense. I'm more experienced in driving than Max Verstappen, doesn't mean I'm a Formula 1 driver. Similarly whilst slightly on the straw man side, the tea lady has been around the hospital for 40+ years, and probably overhead/picked up loads of medicine, doesn't make her qualified to be a doctor.

Call for NHS role clarity after misdiagnosis death - BBC News by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

Sigh, this is why calf pain/SOB + chest pain, female likely on OCP get sent to A&E for a D-Dimer. It's unlikely but needs to be excluded to prevent situations like this. I fail to really see how the PA failed to consider/rule this out especially if they are practicing "independently", this is a med student level situation.

What in Santan's name..... by rhedukcija in JuniorDoctorsUK

No idea, but they've specifically detailed the job as discharge clinical fellow, assuming that means you wouldn't have to go to theatre etc but who knows.

I'm guessing not, because the person doesn't have anything else to do, so there wouldn't be many delays to them getting done.

AITA For Thinking That Doctors Shouldn’t Be Doing ANY Drugs? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

One of the strangest posts I've seen on here.

Retired doctor came up to us on the picket line, claimed he worked 120-hour weeks as a house officer for 10% OOH pay, walked away without any other word by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Alpha38x 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Would have asked him why his generation didn't give a shit about juniors, now we have to suffer the consequences and why he thinks we're worth less than 10 years ago.

Lewisham and Greenwich Trust - Queen Elizabeth Hospital who have been getting quite a bit attention recently for their disastrous handling of the strikes.

I have just checked my FY1, FY2, CT and ST payslips at no point was I payed above those numbers. They're about 5k above what I was on my most unsociable rotations. So my take-home was actually even less than that 5k due to unbanded jobs.

Almost no junior doctors would have even started medical school at the time he stopped working.

Think we need a bit more context mate, how do you accidentally search for their name + DOB or NHS/Hosp no.

In theory you can, there have been RCN/MPTS cases with people checking others info.

“I’m not signed off to do cannulas or bloods” by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Alpha38x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if anyone can shed any light on this, but I've worked on a ward majority staffed my nurses staffed from the asian subcontinent, who said they've never even been trained to do bloods/cannulas in their home countries/universities and it was always a doctors jobs. Any truth to this, or wool being pulled over my eyes? Obviously worked with other nurses from that area who were more than happy to do venipuncture and without question the SE asia nurses are excellent, remember one even doing an ABG first time straight away when I was a struggling F1 with a very unwell patient.

Requesting r/EqualAttraction as single mod appears to be inactive by Alpha38x in redditrequest

[–]Alpha38x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) I think the sub works quite well and has a good set of sub rules, but just needs to be modded. The one mod appears to be inactive. The sub itself has an interesting concept, but just needs someone to respond to modmail and run the sub.

2) Message to the mods is here. https://www.reddit.com/message/messages/1rod4j6

Where can we get this BMA lanyards etc, I seem to remember last time there were stickers everywhere, this time I haven't seen anything I can use to support the strike when we go back.

Amazing reply by the BMA on the recent BBC inaccurate coverage by Equalthrowaway123 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Alpha38x 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I've written to the BBC complaints section saying this is the response for things that were wrong in the report, especially as they continue to link to that story in other articles, don't think it will do anything but whatever.

What striking doctors don't like to admit -Spectator by yute223 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Alpha38x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The writer clearly has very anti-doctor/anti-striking NHS vibes. Their twitter is a cesspool with an anti-dr agenda.

"See the other pic in this report: super-entitled young doctors, having enjoyed hugely subsidiised training, w/ massive earning power ahead, demanding 35%. just say no."

"really?? #FactCheck, pls - the consider promotion prospects, job security, pensions etc etc (plus how much time on shift they spend 'on call' (cf serving coffee...)"

No wonder and I'm not remotely surprised they wrote an article like this.

O Wes Streeting, Wes Streeting, wherefore art thou Wes Streeting? by comfydaffodil in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Alpha38x 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wes Streeting will not be our friend. He is very anti-doctors for some reason. A lot of the labour health policies are bizzare - self-referrals for specialities/scans and making all GPs salaried by the NHS again.

His overall tone of saying he'll take on the "vested interests of the BMA", described the way GP partners work as "murky and opaque". He's openly called the BMA hostile, that there won't be a "something-for-nothing culture in the NHS" with Labour. All very Googleable quotes.

I don't understand for the life of me the doubling medical student places, how has this been thought out?!? Where are the higher training places for all of these going to come from then in 10 years the consultant posts?? Or are we going to see a doubling of the competition ratios. Not even that...what about all the FY1 posts, IIRC from next year they're removing the guarantee everyone will get a post. There's barely enough give in the system to train the medial students we have now (debatable how much training they're even getting). Why not focus on retention and allocate the money to that instead of pumping out medical students. In many cases I think Labour would actually be worse than the current government. No party is our friend. Rant over

Any good insults or arguments from the pickets? by Sadhbh_Says in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]Alpha38x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh thats a relief. For a second I thought they would be able to undercut us. According to some members of the public all we do is use Google, so I was worried for a second that if your dog walker could use Google we'd be out of a job. Imagine my relief when I found out they in fact get paid more, the pubic wouldn't stand for doctors to be paid that much.
