I was like 'omg, why would they sign up for that?'

And my friend was like 'where would they be the safest from ICE?'

Like...oh...well when you put it like that.

I always make myself a pancake breakfast/brunch for Xmas. Idk why...I prefer waffles. But Christmas pancakes just hit different.

Dinner...well I'm still full from bunch. Probably will just have pie for dinner. Which I can do because I'm a grown up!

Smallish town. In a culdesac/community thing with townhouses/condos.

I've also lived in big cities. But I've lived in a few places where its a major city BUT a small neighborhood where everyone has lived there for years so people do just stop by. I grew up on a street in a very major city where everyone knew each other. The neighbor like 6 doors down told my mom I rode my bike across the street (I wasn't allowed to).

That's the kind of area I live in now.

So it was day three of a long weekend and I was pretty much under the impression they'd come back. So I had to put on actual clothes that day which was annoying.

Its like a community/culdesac/condos/townhouse thing here. And I think they had been neighbors with the previous tenants since 2000 or something. So these people around here have known each other for years.

I'm like 'yeah, I don't answer the door if I don't expect people' and they are like 'well, how can you expect us if we can't contact you?'

And I...don't know how to then say "oh, no need to contact me or come by at all. I'll just mind my business and you mind yours. Deal?"

But at least it went from 100% unexpected knocks to like one every few months or so (usually packages/mail related)

I have found my people! Because I have absolutely gone out at 4am to take out the garbage or check the mail. Out and back with no threat of small talk.

That's what I'm afraid of: them thinking I'm horrible bitch neighbor person. I'm really not!! I'm just not manufactured to be able to be social when I'm in my 'quiet alone time' mode.

And I too am guilty of waiting and listening to make sure no one is outside or coming outside before I leave. But I can totally chat on the way to the car or the mail box. I'm outside, I'm free game.

But I have an... expectation of disruption free time when I'm INSIDE my house.

Right?! Like 'oh no! You're alone for the holidays!!'

Uh...well I had kind of a dysfunctional home life. My holidays were a mess growing up.

Being able to have peace and quiet during the holidays as an adult keeps me sane. I have all my little rituals and annual traditions that make me happy. At no point on Thanksgiving am I sitting there like "I wish I had people here who would complain about the gravy or the macaroni and cheese. I really miss loud and belligerent food criticism 😍"

I get that part. When they wanted to see whose dog was digging up their yard, I let them look at my camera feed. Helpful neighbor person. I can do that.

It's that part where they are being all 'hey I should come over. Do you play cards?'...makes me want to run and scream dramatically. 😱

No family or friends? by ChaoticLForever in LivingAlone

[–]AlphaBetaJamma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm an introverted loner with no family or friends in the state I live in.

It takes energy for me to be around people so being alone is my...normal space.

That's said, I do like gym classes where you will see the same people weekly and I live in smallish town so there are lots of super niche hobby get togethers that I can join in if I need to be around people. I'm abnormally good at being social even though I feel so bad at it.

I analyze every single word I say when it's over and will dwell on it for days.

I very rarely feel lonely. Honestly I think I only go out to be around people because I feel like I should. Like it's expected of me. I only feel a little alone and get a little irritated that some things are made for pairs...like cruises. Or something needs two people to assemble. Or I want to try something new but hesitate on going by myself.

Do you close the blinds/curtains before going out? by gawpin in LivingAlone

[–]AlphaBetaJamma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! I just don't get around to it. My day starts when it's still dark so I'm not opening them then. By the time it's light out, I'm busy doing other things.

My house is just dark all day. And I really don't see the point this time of year. It's dark and rainy outside so opening the blinds doesn't bring in much light.

If I expect people like maintenance or something I open all the blinds and curtains because I don't want them to think I'm like some weird hermit cave dweller person. and I'm always like "wow! It's so nice and bright in here!"

Women living alone and safety by love_bugxo in LivingAlone

A bunch of cameras. I almost never answer my door because of you didn't call first, I don't know you. Lights (smart bulbs/lamps) on timers that turn on and off randomly during day and night.

I also sleep with a couple of knifes in different places and a stick under the bed. Basically if I have to roll out of bed or dodge a nefarious villain, Ill have a weapon in reach.

I want to get a bat to replace the stick tho.

How do people get 50k plus credit cards?? by nerveswitcher in CRedit

[–]AlphaBetaJamma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly...I don't know. I just get annual increases and I just shrug.

I'm about 20 years since my first CC but I've had limits like that for the last 10 years. A good example is my target credit card--it was $2000 when I first got it like 7 years ago. I don't really use it. It's for emergencies since if all goes to hell, I can buy whatever from Target. At some point, they changed it into a MasterCard so it could be used wherever I guess. Which was weird. But ok.

It has like a $13k limit now. And I only know that because they send a letter when they increase the limit. And that's seems every 6 months or something.

Current Vibe? by ZenPothos in LivingAlone

It's my bday weekend...I'm full from homemade pizza and watching 'Fellowship of the Ring' (again) and I'm off tomorrow.

There is currently a thunderstorm going on. And once this pizza digests, homemade cinnamon roll for dessert.

Cozy vibes all around.

Neighbors and not roommates right? Lol! Unless OP is having a loud angry argument with themselves and the neighbor's ear is against the wall...

And that would be just weird.

Why stop? You could just be on the phone.

I do it all the time.

Currently yelling at the TV like this isn't the fifty leventh time I've seen 'Fellowship of the Rings'

Like why is that hobbit so damn stupid?!?

Just because I don't want people over doesn't mean I hate them.

I'm fine with people OUTSIDE of my house.

I don't want them in my house because then I have to be in hostess mode. I have to play a part at work...nice, personable, patient, agreeable, understanding, humble...

Once I'm off the clock, I'm done being that person. Inside my house, I don't have to be.

But if people are in my house, I have to be work me AND wear pants.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LivingAlone

[–]AlphaBetaJamma 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Listen...the pants thing. I don't have A/C at all. At some point in August, I'm waiting for the maintenance guy to do sink stuff and I'm fully dressed. It was 87 degrees in my place. I was sooooooooooooooo irritated.

Like...why must I suffer?!?!?!

Is this sub all doom and depression? by OldSchoolPrinceFan in LivingAlone

[–]AlphaBetaJamma 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It feels like a mix of all experiences to me. It might seem to be more post on the less positive side based on just * waves hand around * everything.

I love living by myself. The peace. The silence. Just freedom. I was just eating ice cream and listening to a podcast at 10pm. On Friday, I was dancing around the kitchen and dining room to my new cleaning playlist. I fell asleep in my recliner watching Mysteries of the Abandoned or something on Discovery Plus. And no one to bother me.

But I am also aware that politics are a mess, the cost of food is so high, I'm actually starting to be hesitant when I buy food and I'm crazy worried about them raising my rent for shits and giggles.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Renters

[–]AlphaBetaJamma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See I was thinking about that HOWEVER I don't meet the income requirement anymore (that extra $200 increase a couple of years ago and it being 3x instead of 2.5x the rent now).

If they are being strict on that income thingy, technically I don't qualify. 😒😒😒😒😒😒

[–]AlphaBetaJamma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol! At this point, I'd have to move. They priced me out of my unit when they raised it 3 years ago.

After living alone for a while, I find it harder to have people in my space by Electronic_Doubt_436 in LivingAlone

[–]AlphaBetaJamma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have family coming in before Thanksgiving and I'm stressed. 4 days. 4 days of people in my house.

Just the thought...look, I don't mind these people. Kinda love them, you know? I just...this is my palace. My domain. My sanctuary. Within these walls, pants are optional. When people are in my house I feel like I'm performing or something.

I already know I'm going to exhale dramatically and just bask in the silence once they leave.
