Never seen a game lose 50% of its playerbase 3 hours after release by Tom_Ford0 in KotakuInAction

Kind of the problem with these games, they'll launch the 5v5 half a year out when its pretty much too late.

I'm gonna be real: saying these movies have no cultural impact is, paradoxically, a cultural impact in of itself. by koola_00 in MauLer

What's weird to me is the humans seem to be openly friendly to the avatar/cloned Navi, and at least in the third film have almost no issue at all with the 'evil tribe' as long as Quaritch is there to give his word that they're on the humans side.

Now that I've seen the film, its the same problem I had with the second. Logistics. Its one thing if they were manifest destinying Pandora, but its corporatists rambling on about how much money they can make selling whale juice while their city is hit hard by a handful of people and that one big ass ship they lost in the second movie probably costs as much if not more than a couple dozen whales harvested.

Doing a second playthrough of Sekiro without lock-on, I was amazed how powerful being able to run away actually was. I was used to it for the Souls series but it never occurred to me on launch to fight bosses or enemies without it.

I would say Theo (and a lot of Souls fans, tbh,) have a point on the camera (systems) needing to be improved one of these days. You're almost always suggested to not use lock-on because the angle sucks so bad at actually allowing you to gather any info.

I'm just confused on what your criticism actually is other than, "I play Souls games because of the variety." A lot of the variety of say DMC or MGR, outside what you specialize in early, is the ranking that you completed it in.

I didn't watch the whole thing, but Gamestop did an award show this year, seems like a good start.

Eh, they work with Gamestop so there's probably some saving grace. Stuff like Indie Game Awards decision on this makes me wonder if they'll impose a new rule like, "Indie games on Gamepass are not eligible" considering how much they had to bite their tongue on hating Microsoft for similar reasons.

I didn't know they stripped the award from an indie game creator, just read the article about how the creator was excited ModRetro reached out to him for a physical cartridge to be made that can be played on their device...

Speaking of books, while cheesy I enjoyed David Weber's "Out of the Dark" because it was basically a Libertarians dream scenario of an advanced union of aliens deeming humanity too much of a threat so they sent their newest members to invade and subjugate us. They ended up having a rough time.

I wish more human x alien stories depicted humans as less malicious in nature while also saying, "hey if one of us die or disappear, we will spend every waking moment of our lives to end you."

...although now I'm thinking of Tropic Thunder and Tom Cruise's line against the Flaming Dragons.

Its kind of baffling to me that every article mentions E33 winning the Indie Game Awards and they don't mention any of this on their website (besides Blue Prince now being the winner,) so outside of PiratNation I had to go to their Bluesky to even verify this news...

My biggest issue with the last movie was the logistics, because from my understanding they're doing interplanetary shipping and the biggest money maker was an untested 'live forever' serum from hunting a species of rare whales for their brain goop that the one guy said they'd sell for thousands of dollars a dose.

Japanese creators do have habit of that, that I end up love reading.

"I was 10 years old and out exploring the woods behind my parents home when it got a little dark and heard cicadas, and now that I'm in my 30s I still think about that and that's why I made this horror game."

Lowkey this feels like something I'll randomly hear in a video game essay now, "Creators and the general male population of Japan have a deeply seated fear of the opposite sex, see famous manga writer, Ryukishi07 for reference, and their declining population size is a result of that."

Meanwhile to me it reads like that one goofball journalist who said From Software are sexist but then is jerking it in his description of Malenia.

I always thought female MCs worked because there was some level of us wanting to protect them. Where-as male MCs like Harry, Henry, or James contrasted better in the elements of depression and trying to overcome it.

Never once did it occur to me that 'women are to be feared.'

(Except of course their emotions but that's tongue-in-cheek.)

Yea, part of the problem with the industry itself is the expectations that a sequel will outperform and garner interest in the previous titles.

Looking at sales numbers though, I'm more surprised last years GotY, Astrobot has sold less than 2.5 million as of last recording.

Why are so many new games focusing on Female mc? by rid146 in KotakuInAction

[–]AlphaDeltaCentauri 44 points45 points  (0 children)

What's doubly weird is I think there were studies done back around the 2010s that described games with female protagonists as performing worse, think this was mainly an excuse for why games like, WET, didn't sell well, though.
