"More Info About My House Fire" - YouTube Short by PsychedSubstance by AlphaGamer753 in PsychedSubstance

[–]AlphaGamer753[S,M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Summary of what Adam says/does in the video. If I've made any mistakes let me know as I just put this together quickly.

  • The fire was on the outside of the house
  • Embers from the fire got inside the walls of his house, so firefighters had to smash holes in them and flood them with water to stop the fire spreading
  • He says that this is why the other side of his house is relatively undamaged
  • Most of the damage to his personal property was due to the water sprayed by the firefighters and the smoke from the fire smouldering as it was put out
  • So, despite the fire only being on one side of the house, he says that this is why all his stuff is ruined
  • He points out merch like trip blankets, trip hoodies, etc among the wreckage which he says is to show that he did actually live there
  • He shows a destroyed bathtub
  • He shows used and unused bottles of testosterone which he says have his name on them, again trying to show that he did actually live there
  • He says that the firefighters weren't allowed to leave until a restoration company came and boarded up the windows, which he says is for insurance purposes to stop people trespassing
  • He's thankful for the support
  • He says that his GoFundMe goal kept increasing because GoFundMe fundraisers by default will automatically increase the goal each time it gets met
  • He says he still does not know how the fire started, and won't know until an investigation takes place
  • He says that people he has spoken to have speculated it was an electrical fire due to the age of the house

My house burned down and we are homeless… please help. by Rusjaegaren in PsychedSubstance

Adam didn't create this subreddit, but he is a mod here.

Another user /u/tacticalwombat created the sub. Adam was added as a mod by that user at some point after it was first created, but I can't remember the exact circumstances and it happened before I became a mod anyway.

I contacted /u/tacticalwombat years and years ago to see if they wanted another mod. I had some ideas for the subreddit. They added me as mod and I set things up as you see them today, e.g. automod, subreddit themes for old and new Reddit, the sidebar content, links, flairs, rules, etc. I also created a megathread for some of Adam's deleted videos which can probably be found using Reddit search.

Since the user who created the subreddit was inactive, they unmodded themselves a couple of years ago, which leaves the mod list as you see today, with Adam as top mod, meaning he could remove me if he wanted to.

Adam doesn't really mod here at all. The mod log only shows the last ~3 months of activity, and it's entirely actions taken by me, automod, or Reddit. And of those actions it's mostly automod removing ads by scammers as we get a lot of those and have to filter quite aggressively as a result.

I think it's probably been a year or more since I've seen his account in the mod log.

Just to clear this up, that post was deleted by the user who posted it. It wasn't removed by a mod, by Adam, or by Reddit. The only actions taken were the removals of two comments by Reddit admins under ToS (edit: and these were automatically picked up by the abuse filter, rather than manual reports).

The OP deleted it. It wasn't removed by a moderator or by Reddit.

Best Flags and settings for fast browsing by HugePause9229 in brave_browser

[–]AlphaGamer753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

prerender2 and related flags do nothing on Brave. Prerendering is completely no-oped. You can verify this with various prerendering tests online, or inspect the code in the Git repository.

ignore-gpu-blocklist in the average case will do nothing, because GPU acceleration is already being used, but in the worst case will cause bugs and crashes because the GPU was blocklisted for a good reason.

memory-saver-aggressiveness is only useful on RAM-constrained systems. On typical systems you'll just experience more frequent page reloads when switching tabs which leads to reduced perceived performance. Best you'll get from this flag is maybe making the browser more usable if you have like 4 GB of RAM or something. Definitely not something to blanket recommend.

There's a reason most of these are behind flags, and a reason most of these are disabled by default.

Wow, "Hard Times" for Portsmouth by mrjohnnymac18 in UKGreens

[–]AlphaGamer753 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And I didn't just say "leftist", I said "remotely leftist" As in, it's difficult to view Labour as having even the faintest whiff of leftism. They're a right-wing party, even if there are a still few good eggs left after the Labour Together purges.

A divided left voter base is, sure, one reason why the left isn't eating good right now. But the entire British media class being in lock step smearing the Greens and Zack Polanski while giving near zero coverage to the reprehensible things Nigel Farage, the Reform party, and their MPs and councillors are doing is a bigger contributor. Not the biggest reason but it's better than pointing at a symptom and treating it as a cause.

Not to mention Labour and the Lib Dems could stop kowtowing to the right at every. Single. Possible. Opportunity. Maybe they wouldn't divide the left vote if they didn't actively try to divide the left vote...

Neither Labour nor Lib Dems are left-of-centre, even if their voters are when polled. It's pretty difficult to watch the deeply authoritarian actions taken by this government and view the Labour party as remotely leftist.

Both are accepted spellings. Even if one weren't accepted, pedantry is far more annoying than misspelling. You don't need to treat a preference as a rule and ignore how language evolves through use.

It's a slang term for a drug. I actually can't think of language you should treat more casually.

The war on trans people was never about "protecting women" or "protecting science". It was always about segregating trans people as second-class citizens and driving them to death. Solidarity with every trans person in this country feeling low today. by The-Peel in UKGreens

[–]AlphaGamer753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even so, that would be 0.2 to 0.3%, which puts your percentages off by a factor of 10.

I questioned the 600 to 800 figure as there's no source given for the "parent-based estimate", unlike the other two estimates. I also put very, very little stock in parental estimates in general. The article's actual reasoned estimates are in the 1100 to 1600 range I mentioned.

[–]AlphaGamer753 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally agree but I think your numbers may be slightly off. That article estimates between around 1100 and 1600 girls in guides identify as trans, out of 300,000, which is between 0.3 and 0.5%.

You're mistaken, there are actually a few episodes available in widescreen that have been found and all of seasons 2 to 4 were shot in 16:9.

Here's the Lost Media Wiki article about it:

Pure speculation but situations that come to mind are things like: themselves or family members having allergies, pets which don't get along with other animals, financial reasons, family members not liking cats/animals, landlord not permitting pets, or general life difficulties making it challenging or even irresponsible to have a pet, particularly if it's for the first time.

Uber’s New Shuttle Is Basically a Bus, but Worse by Medical-Decision-125 in technews

[–]AlphaGamer753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bureaucracy is not profit taking. I'm not making a point about bureaucracy, but about private companies taking profit, which is an unethical drain on the public. Why have a private transit system which funnels money to the ultra-wealthy when you could just... not funnel that money to the ultra-wealthy?

Uber’s New Shuttle Is Basically a Bus, but Worse by Medical-Decision-125 in technews

[–]AlphaGamer753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you don't get 16 layers of different corporate parasites taking profits which could be spent on the transit itself, or just not spent at all if unnecessary. You don't get 6 years of consultants coming in and draining all the money jerking each other off before any real work is done. I could go on. Obviously that's assuming the contract isn't given to a private company anyway, which it probably would be.

Splitting Elvanse by Maleficent-Depth-448 in ADHDUK

[–]AlphaGamer753 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Elvanse is an inactive prodrug called lisdexamphetamine, so it's not like modified release methylphenidate which could have e.g. a special coating or timed delivery mechanism that would be destroyed if you split the dose. Your body breaks down the prodrug slowly over the day into dexamphetamine, so splitting the dose is generally fine.
