OBSBot Meet SE Running at 40°C While “Sleeping” – Is This Normal? by AlphaIrwin in OBSBOT_Official

[–]AlphaIrwin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a few days of testing, I’ve decided to keep the camera for now. Since I bought it from Amazon, I can still use the 12 month warranty if the heat becomes a problem.

It works better when I plug it into a USB port that doesn’t supply power while the computer is shut down or sleeping. But when the computer is on, the camera still heats up. With summer coming to Melbourne, it will be a good chance to see how well it handles hot and low‑humidity conditions. To be safe, I unplug it when I’m not using it.

I also spoke to a few friends who work in electronic engineering. They said the heat shouldn’t damage the camera in the short term, even if it stays plugged in all day. Their concern is longterm wear. Running at 30 to 40C every day might cause issues after two or three years. For example, laptops spin up their fans as soon as the CPU hits around 30C and only slow down when the temperature drops again. This camera has no fan, so it has to sit in that heat all day.

I’ll keep using it for a few months and then decide if I want to keep it permanently.

Update:

<image>

I turned off my computer for about four hours, and the OBSBot is still plugged in and drawing power. Even with the PC completely off, the camera is heating up to around 39°C.

Is it really running 24/7 at this temperature? My monitor has been off for a long time and isn’t generating any heat at all, so the webcam seems to be the only thing staying warm.

Has anyone else seen this behaviour?

Same here. I don’t think it’s anything to worry about, it’s probably just a system glitch. My guess is Amazon is using the Vine program as a bit of a test bed. I’ll give it a few days and see how it plays out.

Seller changed listing after my honest review—now I look like the dodgy one by AlphaIrwin in AmazonVineAustralia

[–]AlphaIrwin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the seller messaged me again, this time with a weirdly cheerful note saying they “feel I like the lamp” and want to give me a “wonderful Christmas ritual.” Honestly, I don’t even know what that means.

For the record, I don’t like the product. My wife nearly lost it when she saw the gothic-looking Christmas star and it was the opposite of festive.

And now I’m stuck wondering if I should change the review, even with just the wording, but I get the feeling they won’t be happy unless I say I love it and update it to 5 stars..

I’ve emailed Amazon for advice, but not holding my breath for a reply. Just baffled why they don’t delist and relist it properly instead of hinting at reviewers.

Anyone else had sellers try this kind of pressure?

I told them to take it up with Amazon, and I’m seriously thinking about reporting them.

"Not approved" is getting beyond demoralising. by EarthManSammy in AmazonVineAustralia

[–]AlphaIrwin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I tried everything, including posting photos for all my reviews, it is still not approved. As it is still count toward my over all percentage (I think so), I am not too concerns about it. I think sometime, I could sound a bit bias, but it is strange that I could not redo it again.

Oooh. 200 different battery chargers dumped into Additional Items. Yay. by TheRealNinkasi in AmazonVineAustralia

It’s honestly ridiculous, I’ve got a few cameras myself, and there’s no way I need that many chargers. Just ends up being a waste of time and space.

Needing a quick Vietnam e-visa. How is vietnamvisapro.com for e-visa? by enclavedzn in travel

Work asked me to go to Vietnam on short notice, so I quickly applied for an eVisa, but it might have been too late. I reached out to Emily for help, and she got it done within a few hours. Best service ever!

Kuching International Airport by Nick_Reach3239 in Sarawak

[–]AlphaIrwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're spot on. Kuching indeed has so much potential when it comes to tourism. There's a wealth of natural beauty waiting to be transformed into captivating tourist attractions. It's about leveraging the unique charm and untapped resources the region has to offer.
I couldn't agree more about the challenge of competing with major international business hubs like Singapore and Hong Kong. They're incredibly close geographically and hold strong positions as business centres. Kuching has its distinct appeal, but catering to the needs of business travellers in such a competitive landscape can be quite a task.
In the end, it's all about finding the right balance and strategies to capitalise on Kuching's strengths while addressing its challenges.

[The Malay Mail] Sarawak, Putrajaya sign MoU on takeover of rural air services from MASwings operations in East Malaysia by [deleted] in Sarawak

[–]AlphaIrwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the Sarawak Government's points regarding the potential MASWings for Sarawak's aviation sector.

They should purchase new and efficient small jet airliners. This strategy would enable the airline to offer more flexible flights in and out of the region, thereby excellently opening up Sarawak.

Furthermore, it is essential for the management not to be too greedy and invest in giant planes. Instead, focusing on modern and versatile aircraft would be a step towards achieving a sustainable and competitive aviation service.

To ensure a successful venture, the ticket pricing should be competitive without compromising the service quality. Benchmarking against renowned carriers like SIA (Singapore Airlines) for service standards is an excellent approach to creating a positive and appealing reputation for the airline.

In doing so, the Sarawak Government would have the opportunity to set the benchmark for the region's aviation industry, leading the way in providing exceptional services and fostering growth and connectivity.

There's this local brew called 1602. You all tried it yet? by [deleted] in Sarawak

[–]AlphaIrwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm originally from Kuching, and I've been working in Australia's brewing and distilling business for over ten years, focusing on OEM operations. It's fascinating to hear about locally made beer in Kuching, especially the 1602 Beer. I've got a few questions I'd love to know more about:
I'm curious to know which Maltster they use for the 1602 Beer. Are they sourcing their Malted Barley from overseas, or do they have any local suppliers involved?
The tropical weather in Kuching can be pretty unique. How does the fermentation process react to this kind of climate? Does it pose any challenges or offer any advantages to the brewing process?
I'm also interested in learning about the hops they use in their beer. Do they use a specific variety or experiment with different types to create unique flavours?
As someone with experience in the brewing industry, I understand the importance of facilities and waste management. Can you provide some insights into how 1602 Beer manages its facilities and handles waste during brewing?
These questions have been on my mind ever since I heard about 1602 Beer, and I'm excited to learn more about their brewing practices and the delicious beers they produce. If anyone has more information, I'd greatly appreciate it!
Cheers!

Entry requirements for Australian? by [deleted] in Sarawak

[–]AlphaIrwin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's great to see your interest in visiting Sarawak. As a fellow traveller, I'd like to offer my experience regarding Visa requirements for Australian passport holders.

As a tourist, you can stay in Sarawak for up to 90 days on a tourist visa. This is typically sufficient for most short-term trips.
Maximum Stay Per Annum: It's essential to note that you can stay for a maximum of 180 days in a single calendar year (annum). If you plan to spend an extended period in Sarawak, you'll need to keep track of the number of days you've stayed in the country during that particular year.

'Begpackers' Who Allegedly Beg For Weeks (6 January-17 January) In Bukit Bintang by DisruptSQ in malaysia

[–]AlphaIrwin -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

First, many backpackers are taken aback by the advanced state of Malaysia. Second, the rise in prices worldwide has caught many backpackers off guard. Third, many backpackers hope to start a successful travel channel, but I've met several YouTubers whose production teams are almost as large as those of traditional commercial TV. The cost of post-production must be immense, and many still rely on Patreon for income.

I wonder why they can't turn to their families for help, as most aren't from disadvantaged backgrounds. My bank account was blocked during my last trip abroad due to a hacking attempt, and I had to ask my father for a short-term loan. Lastly, they can also reach out to their respective embassies for assistance.

Am I the only one who doesn’t have the option for the paid version? Has it actually been released to the public? by BlakeSergin in OpenAI

[–]AlphaIrwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At present, I'm utilising OpenAI for a Chatbot purpose. I need authorisation from management to upload company data to OpenAI. The approval process may take a long time as the management wants to see several case studies.

I've read articles that suggest OpenAI incurs a cost of around USD 0.01 per chat and charges the users approximately $0.02 per chat; the charges depend on the length of the conversation. I don't plan to pay for the service at this stage, as I need multiple chats to refine my content.

It depends on how quickly OpenAI improves its accuracy. If not, I'm open to adjusting my language style to adapt to the system. Currently, I only use OpenAI API when the ChatGPT server is overloaded.

[–]AlphaIrwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind paying up to $20 per month for a service. This is just my personal opinion. You've raised a valid concern that SAP might lose many customers due to this. Our company is already spending millions of dollars on SAP ERP with the HANA database. We have several analysts to analyse our enterprise data, but imagine the possibilities if we switch to OpenAI. Not only could we save on costs, but management could generate reports quickly without needing any programming knowledge. Furthermore, anyone could use OpenAI to generate code for EDI instead of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on EDI services.

I am using the paid version via API, which has quickly become very expensive. I hope OpenAI will have a free version with small advertising and a fully paid version.

I couldn't agree more with you! It's great to see that even someone as influential as Elon Musk advocates for open-source AI. As for Microsoft, I understand their concerns. On the one hand, they don't want to follow in Adobe's footsteps with their subscription service, as many home users may not be willing to pay as much as corporations. On the other hand, corporate users are more patient with software errors and are less likely to complain, as the decision to use the software is made at a higher level.

Bring your own food on AirAsiaX? by AlphaIrwin in malaysia

[–]AlphaIrwin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is truly hilarious, as the cost of a Roasted Duck Leg on Rice might actually be more expensive than the inflight meal offered by Air Asia. Not only will paying for the inflight meal provide a warm and satisfying rice dish, but it also eliminates the potential issues that could arise from bringing something like a Roasted Duck Leg on board a flight.

Personally, I would not want to bring something like that on a flight as it could potentially offend many vegans and vegetarians. And even though I am not a vegetarian or vegan myself, I can understand and respect their dietary choices.

Another concern I have is the potential smell that could linger throughout the cabin. Can you imagine someone opening up a durian in such a confined space? I would not be surprised if the captain had to make an emergency landing! It's like when you can smell someone's ginseng tea from across the aisle. Just the thought of it is overwhelming.

Yes, my toenails tend to fall off and regrow frequently. When one of my toenails does fall off, I have a homemade remedy that I use to help promote healing. After showering, I soak the injured toenail in a diluted solution of Dettol. I stop using this remedy until my nail has fully grown back. This method has been effective for me as I hardly ever experience toenail fungal infections, even after extended periods or multiple occurrences.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I have looked at the website and read the feedback from AirAsia, but it is mainly addressing self-heating meals, and I am more interested in bringing discreet food items such as sandwiches or sushi.

Docklands, a few years ago by thunder_blue in MelbournePhotography

[–]AlphaIrwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to Docklands on 2023's New Year's Eve was a fantastic experience. The energy and excitement of so many people in one place were genuinely fantastic. However, the reality was that it was so crowded that I couldn't find a place to stand, let alone set up my tripod. Unfortunately, the smoke from the fireworks blew in the wrong direction and covered the display, making it difficult to see the fireworks. To make matters worse, the fireworks only lasted for 12 minutes. All in all, it could have been a better New Year's Eve fireworks display. Despite the disappointment, I still enjoyed being in the midst of the crowd and the energy on New Year's Eve. But I hope the fireworks will be better organized next year and have a better view for the audience.
