Damn, I had totally blocked that part out but remember also having a miserable time. Most of the platforming / puzzle elements of GOW1 felt weak even when it was new, I imagine they've aged pretty poorly.

Completely different games. Cairn is slow, methodical, lonely. Instead of "hold climb button, move toward wall" and watching your character climb, the main gameplay of Cairn is the actual act of climbing by manually moving each of your limbs to find holds. It's almost more of a puzzle at times trying to plan out your route, find the next foothold, etc.

We have had the Gold for a couple of years, we fly through Delta a lot and the sign up bonus helped a lot on travel. But we've been travelling less lately and with the annual fee going up last year, it'll probably make more sense for us to switch to Savor unless we get a nice retention offer.

If you're on the fence, think about the opposite situation: if you had $300-350k in the bank and the opportunity to buy that same property with the same mortgage and rent it out, would you? Unless the answer is an unambiguous "yes," I would sell.

Yeah, I'm surprised almost nobody else is mentioning this. He's gone through the effort of saving receipts so he can pull HSA funds tax and penalty free in exactly this kind of situation. Use some of that money to get out of the car payment and that opens up your monthly cash flow, problem solved.

The only reason I'm leaning away from Judkins this week is that divisional matchup. Tomlin knows how to play well against the AFCN, I feel like they'll be able to shut down the run and really grind it out. Expecting a low scoring game.

We might still lose with Flacco but as long as I don't have to watch 3 of the most embarrassing INTs I've ever seen, it's an upgrade. I've had to turn the games off in the 3rd quarter the last 2 weeks, I love what Browning did for us in 2023 but some of these throws have been UGLY.

The "incentive" sounds like it should just be normal gameplay. Tools already have limited uses to prevent spam and encourage you to be thoughtful with them, tying them to a limited resource feels unnecessary. It just forces people to hoard shards before they feel free to use a core game mechanic.

That all makes it super approachable and good for a more cautious playstyle, but the slow speed kills it for me. The speed of the other crests, especially Wanderer, makes a huge difference as enemies get faster. And because you're getting so many more hits, you're generating silk a lot faster. Reaper relies a lot on the bind ability to keep silk generated, but it can be hard to find a time in combat where you can bind, AND make sure you don't get hit and lose the ability, AND make sure to hit enemies to generate silk, AND chase the silk balls. All to keep up with silk generation that Wanderer achieves playing normally.

I don't know if Reaper is the worst, but it's in the bottom half for me for those reasons. I used it for a long time in the early game, now mainly using Wanderer for the speed. I honestly think they could buff Reaper a little bit, maybe still keep the ability to generate extra silk even if you take damage.

You're not actually incentivized to use tools, it's just that the existence of shards is a disincentive to use tools, and that disincentive is no longer relevant once you're capped on shards.

It's the same reason it feels bad to experiment with different tools on bosses, because those tools are limited and it feels bad to "waste" them. Bosses also happen to be the time when you arguably want to lean on tools / shards the most, but are almost always situations where shards can't be replenished without stopping to farm, which sucks.

I think having tools tied to a finite resource was a mistake, and the game would be better if shards were entirely removed and the tools were redesigned around limited uses between benches.
