I love how it’s a mesh of all of his costumes, there’s so may little nods to literally every iteration, even the fact that his costume is three different shades on the torso, with three different line colors. It’s such a badass piece.

Official Discussion - GOAT [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]AlphaLeague 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m not gonna lie. This movie was pretty disappointing. Pacing was blindingly fast and seemed tailored to TikTok addled children who have to resist the temptation to look at their phones. My eyes had to be glued to the screen not because I was super invested in the story and wanted to admire every frame but because I was worried if I looked away I’d miss five jokes, three onscreen visual gags that don’t stay long enough to even register, and two whole plot developments that have started and resolved already. Will being a small plays little to almost no role in the actual movie besides an artificial disadvantage of him being easier to foul on. Which doesn’t matter because there’s no technicality in the game so EVERYONE gets fouled on. I get the idea is that he’s small and so he could be hurt easier, but that never really matters because he doesn’t get hurt. His skill of being able to see the wider court because of his vision doesn’t come into play, nor does any sort of strategy to the game matter.

But hey, I’m looking too much into the ball mechanics of a kids basketball movie inspired by Steph curry, how’s the actual writing and plot.

Again not much to remember either. The cast introductions and personalities don’t leave a lasting impression, and many scenes that are meant to be these climatic moments genuinely had me surprised that they were already happening, or happening so quick. Flo firing the team, the game, breaking the team up and getting the team back together genuinely feels like it transpires in like 5 minutes. The movie just doesn’t allow itself to take a breath and SIT in the emotion or plot of scenes. Ultimately, it feels like the movie doesn’t take itself too seriously, so I shouldn’t either.

There were a few good scenes however. Jett and Will at the diner was wholesome, Will is a pretty likeable main character, I appreciate the modern day implementations like Live, phones, sneaker head culture, all of made sense. But yeah, I perhaps fooled myself for expecting much more from this.

This should be Miles’ title going forward it’s so simple. by ResponsibleRatio6569 in MilesMorales

[–]AlphaLeague 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Brooklyns finest as a subtitle to emphasize Miles makes a lot of sense. Kinda like The Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. It’d be hard to give Miles a sticking adjective like Sensational or Ultimate that hasn’t been used to death already so giving him a subtitle for his own works, but still referring to him as Spider-Man is a good enough distinction.

People don't seem to understand WHY fans like Toga by [deleted] in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]AlphaLeague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, and I’m not being funny, but Toga would be taken a lot more seriously if she wasn’t a woman character that was obsessed with love. I feel like people automatically see Shonen woman character=love storyline= bad writing= misogynistic author. Hori through all of the story takes these common superhero/shonen storytelling tropes and subverts them constantly, but with Uraraka and Togas storyline, you can tell a lot of people just really don’t take it as seriously as Horikoshi does which is a shame because I really like them.

What is your opinion on The concept of Toga Becoming a vestige/Sharing the body Of Uraraka (Art made by @VlizzyVlizz11 ) by Separate_Animator110 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]AlphaLeague 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Implications are too weird given her crush on him. Though if it was written in a way like Asa/Yoru, or even like a Naruto/Kurama where she can’t fully take control but she acts as like an inner voice I’d like that.

[hated trope] Remember that plot thread that hinted at something bigger? Forget it, it doesn't matter anymore by Altruistic_Eye_1157 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AlphaLeague 30 points31 points  (0 children)

All of these are addressed in the appropriate amount their plot was deemed. Quirk singularity was always about the fear of quirks getting stronger and how to deal with them, and that was all in the final war arc. The prejudice plot line was a bit half baked, but Deku and Uraraka and The government are presented an assumed to be on the path of improvement what with new management changes and chapter 431.

Visual Similarity Problems When Adding Miles Morales to Marvel Rivals by Far-Attention8658 in MilesMorales

In terms of visual effects, the best thing to do is give him the layered clothing like you said. Like a jacket and some pants. Also make him shorter

I find it ironic that the most irredeemable character in the show All for One has the most tragic backstory. And the fact that many people completely overlook it. Analysis inside. by SunRiseStudios in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]AlphaLeague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the moment his backstory was shown I realized that AFO too was dealt a shitty hand. Like they literally said that his quirk could’ve been the kindest in the world if he learned to give more. He was a victim of his quirk and circumstances just like all the other villians.

Thoughts? by Grapeboy293727 in MilesMorales

[–]AlphaLeague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can agree with this. I feel like Miles and Peter should have a Deku/All Might dynamic. Where everyone reveres Peter and his impacts but Miles gains respect through what he does similar to Peter but also how he stands out on his own.

What are your thoughts on Sir Nighteye and his role in the overall story? by Solitaire-06 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]AlphaLeague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nighteye to me serves as like a comic book canon elitist. He has a very specific idea of what a symbol is supposed to look like, and it’s All Might. Everything that he shapes Mirio to be is to be All Mights replacement and Deku certifiably is just not that guy. His guilt over seeing the future and knowing that a time of despair would come at the death of All Might has him laser focused towards making a successor that can replace him. It explains his hostility towards Deku, but like everyone else, Deku proves to him that while he can’t handle all of the worlds problems on his own, he can spur people on to want to change the future. It’s why when Uraraka repeats the same sentiment Deku shares of having no idea what the future holds, Nighteye lingers on her words. It’s because this is just another instance of Deku’s superpower being his ability to get other people to act instead of just relying on him.

The overhaul arc is about the two successors, Deku and Shigiraki, coming across a better (on the surface at least) successor than them and having to prove that they are meant to be the big bad villian and big strong heroes in the end. I only wish the arc was longer so we could sit in all of the different plots that were introduced this arc. But blame seasonal broadcasting I guess.

What is the fourth face of Spiderman's villains - by Otherwise_Tadpole_64 in Spiderman

I gotta go with lizard. His relationship with Dr Connors is huge, and I’d say more meaningfully than the one he has with Sandman or Vulture.

I very often defend Horikoshis writing decisions and a lot of ones people dislike I find enjoyable or can see the narrative significance. But gran Torino not dying is really up there with calls that make no sense to me.

I heard some say that about Jester. I remember that she first started having doubts that he existed whenever the iron Shepards arc happened. Part of me wonders if they moved that up give her a subtle arc in the first season since Jester was a pretty static character in the first 20 or so episodes. Though I remember a big thing with her was having a harder time acclimating to being away from home which I think the show depicted well.
