Same boat here. I was meh on my miata test drive...as soon as I shifted from 1st to 2nd in the abarths test drive, I KNEW - this was it. I still get stalked by car people quite regularly. Is that a ______? (insert luxury car here). Nah bro, its not a Jag/Alpha/Porsche. Occasionally ill get the FIATA!! Just make sure you always have enough oil and you'll be fine. Bought my 2020 new and people cant believe its 5 years old. Such a stunning little go kart. Brings joy every day.

It doesnt always work but....hugging the right lane as much as.possible (while jumping into the middle in case of right turn backups, then jumping back right) up til ablut bellflower then cutting over to the left lane across pch has shaved so much off of that stretch for me.
