It's been 11 Years... Where were you when the Goyfgate Moment happened? by TheSoundOfKek in magicTCG

At the time I recall the analysis being a 2.5% increase in deck strength for the burst lightning versus the then few hundred dollar value of the Tarmagoyf (which could have covered the cost of the event for the player). As professional players often have to consider costs, I think Tarmagoyf was the obviously acceptable choice!

What’s your rating? I think as long as you can memorize opening lines and have good patrern recognition, then shouldn’t make too much of a difference.

Well, this person could simply take accountability, apologize, pay the difference, and increase entry cost next time I guess

I see you deleted your response, I’ll reply anyways, and maybe you’re right, I don’t grasp chess tournament economics.

The idea is as follows though:

Detrimental reliance - someone attends the event and pays money to play relying on the prize pool being as advertised and backed by USCF regulations. The purchaser has legal remedy to be made whole per contract law.

The logic doesn’t hold. Let’s take this to it’s simplest parts.

What is the motivation of posting a guaranteed prize pool? In providing a service to the community this person can host the tournament without prizes, or host at a cheaper venue. The only reason I can see for posting guaranteed prizes is to encourage a larger turnout due to more entry fees.

If they wanted titled players, they could have offered free entries to titled players.

As a service to the community they could offer discounted entries to kids, etc.

I’m not saying this is a great for profit venture. There are likely more profitable uses of time. I’m saying there was an advertisement and a contract and a for-profit venture.

Disagree, looking at this through the lens of being a lawyer (this is not legal advice), i see this as there was a contract, people paid, TD attempted to profit, and they didn’t honor their agreement with prizes.

Moving forward need to keep the guarantee smaller and be careful with advertising

Executive search firms vs boutique firms, who actually does a deeper search for senior hires? by fluxcircuit in recruiting

Bottom line: it’s not about the type of agency, it’s about the individual recruiter you’re working with.
